What do You do with Memories, Good and Bad?

Q: Dear Todd, what do you do with memories, good and bad?

TODD ANSWERS: When we are fully present, with no mental distractions, life becomes peaceful and blissful. Sometimes something in the present moment will remind me of either painful or enjoyable, and I try to just witness it and honor it, make a mental note of what I’m carrying with me and what triggers it, and then I just return to the moment. Just using life as a meditation.

How to Generate Interest When There is None

Q: Dear Todd, how can I generate interest in an activity when there is none?

TODD ANSWERS: It’s really about recognizing that story in our head that says it’s boring or uninteresting, and then refocusing on the positive motivations you have for doing the thing.

How to Overcome Subconscious Patterns & Rebuild them

Q: Dear Todd, I feel like in my case, the subconscious patterns, regardless of which life they come from, seem to be more powerful than the conscious ones. Becoming fully aware of them after many repetitive cycles is one step. What would be the next step to ‘overcome’ and rebuild them?

TODD ANSWERS: Subconscious patterns are deeply ingrained mental habits, so we need to treat them accordingly. Like any habit we’re giving up, we need to do two things.

1) Maintain vigilance. Practice staying aware of your thoughts. Notice on a deep and subconscious level how thoughts are always changing, always jumping onto new topics, and how there’s no reason to latch onto any train of thought. When your mind gets tense, engage in relaxing activities.

Don’t wait until it gets out of hand and you fall back into old patterns. The more you practice vigilant awareness, the less time it takes you to catch yourself reliving old cycles. Eventually, that gap of time between an unconscious reaction and a conscious response will disappear. Put all of your energy into this moment and your higher self will guide you.

2) Replace the old way with a new way. Don’t just run away from your past; run toward a brighter future. Visualize often and consistently how you would respond to difficult situations. The more you make positive visualization a habit, the less power old habits will have over you.

How to Keep Positivity When Events Contradict Desires?

Q: Dear Todd, I don’t know how it is possible to not judge something as “negative” when I have found a wish in my heart and then things happen that seem to be the opposite to what my heart sees.

TODD ANSWERS: I know exactly what you mean but it really is true that nothing is positive or negative. They really are two sides of the same coin. There is needless suffering in the world which we can try to alleviate as our hearts guide us to do so

Is It Possible to Control How Suffering Affects Us?

Q: So does that mean, even though they (the suffering?) exist in the mind, we have a choice in that moment how we let these moments affect us?

TODD ANSWERS: We definitely do have a choice, but there may also be unhealed trauma as well. For many, our trauma may be the cause of our awakening out of suffering. For others, awakening may be the cause for our trauma to heal. It’s a bit of the chicken/egg scenario, but how we consciously respond to fearful or painful thoughts is always choice when we we bring awareness to them.

Why Does Exclusion Unsettle Me So Much?

Q: Dear Todd, I feel extremely unsettled when I sense that I am being deliberately excluded. How do I find the source of why this unsettles me so much?

TODD ANSWERS: The source is not in the situation but in the mind. It is caused solely by mental activity. Like an improv troupe, our mind throws out a suggestion and then we create a whole show around it.

Instead of searching the depths of these unpleasant thoughts, practice witnessing the thoughts that do pop up as if you’re flipping through radio stations. Like a radio, our mental chatter is broadcasting 24/7, but we do not have to give them our full and undivided attention as if they are important and wise.

We don’t want to lie to ourselves. That would be denying what is happening. But we don’t have to give any weight to them at all, especially if we don’t like the channel.

At our core, we are consciousness. That means we can put all of our conscious awareness on our thoughts, our surroundings, our body, or our breath. Tune into the station you want to listen to. When we just focus on our peaceful breath, peaceful thoughts naturally follow.

Why Does Our Mind Want to Harm Our Mental Peace?

Q: Dear Todd, why does our mind want to harm our mental peace?

TODD ANSWERS: I think we’re just not designed for modern life away from nature, and so our protective brains have gone into overdrive. But, what makes humans unique is our neuroplasticity and adaptability, so we can unlearn this deeply ingrained subtle state of constant stress and alertness that no longer serves us.

Path to Peace What to Do When Life Starts Losing Meaning

We all have times in our lives when we are going through difficult times and we start to wonder why the heck we're here? We can begin to lose faith that we are here for any other purpose than to suffer.

But there is a cause for this crisis of meaninglessness. When we understand the cause, we are able to see that it is not life that has lost meaning. It is we who have forgotten how to give life meaning.

In this podcast, I share a simple two-step solution for getting out of a funk, finding joy again, and giving your life the meaning and purpose you've been looking for.

How Can I Take to Control My Anger After a Fraudulent Scam?

Q: Dear Todd, could you please give me guidance right now? I just got scammed and lost my hard-earned money when planning my family trip. I’ve been maintaining a high frequency the past few days but my fury doesn’t seem to be contained to the point where I dreamed of finding the suspects and harming them and cursing them in all universes and existence. I know Karma will deal with them but due to my past programming, or maybe because of my human nature, I just really really really wanna get back on them with my own hands. Please help.

TODD ANSWERS: I know very well how frustrating that can be firsthand. If there is action that can be taken, do so with peace in your hearts. If no action can be done, the quickest way to get rid of this suffering is to accept, let go, and forgive. As hard as that may be. I hope you find my video about when my camera got stolen helpful
