While the challenges it poses in learning and socialization are well-documented, there’s a growing concern about its potential impact on cognitive decline, memory loss, and even Alzheimer’s disease in later life. In this blog post, we delve into the latest research to shed light on the implications for children.
What is ADHD?ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that disrupts brain function and often persists from childhood into adulthood. Individuals with ADHD struggle with maintaining attention, managing impulsivity, and adhering to rules. The Healing Power of Humor: Overcoming Emotional Abuse
Emotional abuse can etch deep scars on our self-esteem, confidence, and trust, making us feel isolated, ashamed, and undeserving of love. However, I firmly believe that humour can be a potent tool for healing. Humour has the remarkable ability to help us navigate stress, reduce anxiety, and uplift our mood while also forging connections with those who share our pain and understand our struggles.
That’s why whenever I meet someone who has endured emotional abuse, I start with a joke. It’s my way of breaking the ice and demonstrating that I care. Here’s one of my cherished icebreakers:
Knock knock.
Who’s there?
Your feelings.
Your feelings who?
Your feelings that you need to express and validate.
Yes, it might seem cheesy, but it reliably elicits a smile or a chuckle from the person I’m engaging with. It marks the initial step in healing: acknowledging and accepting our feelings.
Emotional abuse often coerces us into suppressing or denying our emotions. We might believe our feelings are wrong, harmful, or irrational, fearing that expressing them would render us vulnerable, weak, or rejected. Over time, we may have learned to conceal our emotions as a defence mechanism against further abuse.
However, hiding our feelings only exacerbates the situation, potentially leading to depression, anxiety, anger, or resentment. It also hinders our capacity to establish healthy relationships with ourselves and others.
This is why expressing and validating our feelings safely and constructively is essential. Our emotions are valid and integral, conveying crucial information about our needs and desires. Humour provides an outlet for releasing the inner tension and pain we carry. It facilitates a shift in perspective, unveiling silver linings in every situation. Spirit enables us to laugh at ourselves and not take life too seriously.
Furthermore, humour is a bridge to bond with others who have endured similar experiences. It fosters camaraderie and support among survivors of emotional abuse, diminishing the feelings of isolation and kindling hope.
So, the next time you encounter someone who has suffered from emotional abuse, consider using humour as a catalyst for conversation. You might be pleasantly surprised by the mutual benefits it brings.

Lessons from My Son: Embracing Stress for Growth
Stress, an unwelcome visitor, manifests in various forms and for diverse reasons. Over the years, my son has inadvertently taught me a profound lesson in dealing with this ubiquitous challenge.
Imagine stress as a child throwing a tantrum. When you turn a blind eye, it becomes an insistent, attention-seeking hurricane, leaving you overwhelmed and exasperated. It tarnishes your mood, hinders productivity, and strains relationships. It’s a guest that won’t leave unless you acknowledge it.
Now, here’s the twist. When you embrace stress, something magical occurs. It calms down and extends a metaphorical hug. It whispers what it needs and how you can assist. It fosters a sense of connection and empowerment. Stress thus approached, transforms into a catalyst for learning and growth.
So, how do you go about embracing stress? Here are some strategies that have worked wonders for me:
Recognize the Telltale Signs: Tune in to your body, thoughts, and emotions. Notice those moments of tension, anxiety, anger, or sadness – they’re signals that something needs your attention.Uncover the Root Cause: Ask yourself what triggers stress. Is it a looming deadline, a conflict, a life change, or something more hidden? The key is to be honest and specific with yourself.Give Expression to Emotions: Don’t bottle up your feelings or feign a facade of ‘everything’s fine.’ Share your emotions with a friend, journal your thoughts, or engage in artistic expression.
