Mari is a half-Peruvian, half-American hobbit and pug owner who was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana where she grew up writing Sailor Moon/Gundam Wing fanfiction. She studied biology and Spanish at Indiana University where she decided to revive an old space opera she wrote in her high school years.

Mari, a native Hoosier, currently lives in southern Germany where she entertains people with her adventures as an American expat in the Land of Beer and Pretzels on her blog and YouTube channel Adventures of La Mari.com as well as the adventures of her pugs, Abner and Roxy. It feels like walking through mud that's waist deep, but I keep going and put words to paper. I know I can edit later, the important thing is simply push through. I think Stephen King's quote said it best: "Sometimes you have to go on when you don't feel like it, and sometimes you're doing good work when it feels like all you're managing is to shovel shit from a sitting position."(less)

When I was in high school - I wanted to be one of those rare authors who had a book out by 19. My first book was published when I was 33 and I don't regret a single step I took in my journey. Everything happens when it's supposed to and everything I learned in that time only ever helped me to become a better writer. I still have a ways to go, but I learned to enjoy the journey as well as the destination.(less)

A Deep Dive (No One Asked for) into US Cultural Identity

In those early days of motherhood, I spent a lot of time on European TikTok and what is a popular pastime is roasting Americans. I could do another episode on my very mixed feelings on the subject…but we’re not here to talk about that. What I do want to talk about is a topic that… Continue reading A Deep Dive (No One Asked for) into US Cultural Identity Read more of this blog post »
