It covers broader story principles like discovering your characters and setting and figuring out your plot.

Structuring Your Novel is about the nitty-gritty of story, scene, and sentence structure.

If you plan to read both eventually, I recommend starting with Outlining, since it's more foundational--and since it leads right into Structuring. But if you're only going to read one, I recommend Structuring, since its principles are ultimately more crucial to successful storytelling.(less)

How Archetypes Changed My Life and My Writing

Story and life are inextricably linked. To write better stories, we study life. And to live better lives, we study stories.

There are many obvious reasons why this is so. Stories, after all, are meant to be relatively accurate reflections of life. However, the more I study story theory, the deeper the rabbit hole seems to go. One of the most exciting discoveries down that hole has been archetype.

Great to connect with you here on Goodreads! I'm so glad you're enjoying the books. Makes my day to hear they've been useful! And I'm so glad you've joined the Reading Challenge for 2016. Please feel free to share your interviews. I'm sure others would enjoy them as well.

Timewarp Hi K.M.

Thank you for accepting my friend request. I have bought your books on outlining and structure and got the free novel looking forward to reading them. I have started the one on outlining. I have a number of people interested in my novel outline which up until now are mostly in my head. I think your books are going to give me the boost I need.
I'm excited about you reading challenge even though I am a slow reader. I wonder would you like to hear some of my Author interviews. I used to interview best selling authors on my radio show. Due to health reasons I had to stop but maybe someday I will again. My Radio name was Timewarp.

Patience Thank you, Ms. Weiland, for being my friend on Goodreads!

Your books, Outlining Your Novel and Structuring Your Novel, have been such a huge blessing to me. :) Thank you! A tremendous help in my writing. I'm on my third time going through Outlining with the third book in my series. I've used both Outlining and Structuring with the first two books in my series, and I'm using it for the third and fourth books as well. My writing has gotten so much better, and there's been a lot of improvement in my plot as well from doing your books. Thank you!

Blessings to you and your writing,
Patience
