More Amazing Reader's Artwork

You might recall a while back my sharing some fabulous fanart done by the talented Estonian translator Eve Laur?

Well to my joy, Eve's reading of The Crowded Shadows has inspired her to do some more! I didn't think her earlier work could be topped, but you know what? I actually think these are even better! I love love LOVE this drawing of Christopher. As usual Eve put so much thought into this, as her following note attests:

I tried all sorts of patterns for that drum, Old German animal style...

Galaxy Bookshop interview & WIP excerpt

galaxy1The lovely folks in The Galaxy Bookshop in Sydney Australia were bonkers enough to interview me recently. They've now put the interviews up on their blog if you fancy going over and having a peek.

The interview took two parts. First, as part of their gloriously named Raw Quill series, Galaxy asked me what I'm working on right now.

It's a Victorian creeptacular, set in 1890's Ireland about three teens who find themselves caught up in the dealings of two very very old pirates. I've got to say...

Merron Religion, Ritual and Hierarchy

ashkrsolMany moons ago Orbit asked me to write an essay detailing some of the history and traditions of the Merron. I was delighted to do this because  there was lots I knew about them, only a little of which had made it into The Crowded Shadows. I thought it might be nice to share that essay with those of you who won't have read the UK/US versions, and Orbit have very kindly agreed to let me put it up online!

Extract:

The Merron are a fiercely proud and independent nation, self-reliant and bowing...

PW reviews Rebel Prince.

Yeay!! I'm glad they enjoyed it to the end!

The Rebel Prince
Celine Kiernan, Orbit, $14.99 paper (243p) ISBN 978-0-316-07707-1
Politics, revenge, and high-strung emotions dominate the dramatic conclusion to the Moorehawke Trilogy (after July 2010's The Crowded Shadows). At long last, the barely postadolescent protagonists–woodcarver and cat whisperer Wynter Moorehawke, bastard prince Razi Kingsson, and crippled musician Christopher Garron–have located the hidden camp of Razi's rebellious...

Probably the one and only time I'll ever get political on this blog.

Because it's not about politics, it's about tolerance, and the first foot on a slippery slope, and I'd never have been able to put it this well.

Hallvor

Well I'm glad to say I got my word count done today, it's been a little slow at the moment.

But I'm equally glad to say I finally got the sketch of Hallvor finished. It took me a very long time to get her face the way I imagined it. I know everyone always has thier own idea of how charcaters look, but I have to say, I'm very happy with this. It's pretty much how Hally looks in my mind. Yeay! Anyone who's read The Crowded Shadows will recognise those willow bark ropes.

I'll assemble the...

Ulfnaor

I'm working away on some illustrations for the Orbit essay on Merron Religion, Ritual and Hierarchy which I'm giving out with the newsletter this month.  I haven't got any further than sketches. But - for want of anything better to share -  thought I'd show you the rough sketch for Ulfnaor.

It'll be interesting to see how the ink stands up. Very often I prefer the sketches as they tend to have more life to them. Hallvor next.

Thank you Carolin :)

You guys may know that I'm a member of DA the online art site. It's a place where I keep gallerys of my Moorehawke doodlings and other random stuff. Recently I've been getting a few notes from readers of the Moorehawke trilogy over there, this is very cool because the DA readers are also artists and so sometimes I end up with something awesome like this.

This is a piece of Art that one of my German readers Carolin did. Carolin's sister wanted a picture to decorate her bookshelves and Carolin d...

Rebel Prince Extract

AUS edition The Rebel Prince

AUS edition The Rebel Prince

As you know, The Rebel Prince isn't due out in UK/US until October. But in celebration of the Australian release I thought I'd put an extract up on-line :) It was very difficult to find a section of the book that didn't contain spoilers. I'm not joking, every single page seems to have a spoiler for some part of the trilogy or another! So in the end I chose the first chapter of The Rebel Prince The Scarlet Ford ( there is a spoiler in there, so if you haven't read...
