A Lovely Day
The day we brought Mam’s clothes to the charity shop was very peaceful and good. We talked about her a little, and about Dad. But mostly it was just a lovely day.

Beyond the Flames
This surreal bit of fun was inspired by a late night conversation during one of our family get togethers: the things that are happening beyond our puny understanding.
Wheelchair bound today, and frustrated by how much this small page took out of me. I’m happy with the results though. I’ve a lot to learn about lettering, but I feel I’m making progress.

Inks page for current Graphic Novel
Still playing with basic ClipStudioPaint, and battling LongCovid/CFS. It took me an age to do this page, which would usually only have taken a day and a half. But I’m very happy with the results. I don’t usually use tone in my comic book work. My style is usually more stark black and white. I’m still in two minds about it, but willing to explore it as a style for now as I think it best reflects the quieter tone of this project.
I can’t really do much more now until I upgrade my equipment and software, so it’ll most likely be concept art for the next couple of months.

Playing with Digital Art
Hi guys,
Long Covid/ CFS is still kicking my arse, so I’ll keep it short.
Playing with digital software at the moment, mostly because I’m too shattered to do anything physical and digital art can be done while laying down (somewhat). I’m using Clip Studio Pro and loving it so far.
Wish me luck reapplying for disability. They keep turning me down in the hopes I’ll eff off and die, I suppose. Meantime, have a little digital panel from a comic book I’m doodling with…

Witches, Vampires, Monsters, Ghouls…They’re Not Just for Halloween, You Know

I must apologise. I had grand plans for all kinds of Halloween book posts last week; well…for the last 10 days of so. But my life had gone a bit manic, other work beckoned and I wasn’t feeling so great. Hey…it happens. So I’m playing a bit of catch-up here. And witchy wanderings, monstrous deeds, ghoulish goings-on and voracious vampires…they’re not just for Halloween, you know. Not in the book world. So here’s a few fantastically fun books I meant to post earlier.
In Rules for Vampires by Alex Foulkes; perfectly illustrated by Sara Ogilvie (Simon & Schuster; 16 September 2021), we learn that there are rules, even for the Undead. Being a vampire is harder than you’d think. It’s true that you have incredible powers like hypnotism and beastly strength…and you have the ability to Grimwalk. Welcome back, my fellow creatives! October has come, and with it the joy of reading tales deliciously eerie on chilly autumn evenings.
So let us break for a wee spell from the lovely indie fiction to venture down paths dark and mysterious.
