Set up: Blondie shows up to join the party and ups the tension. Hyatt greets blondie and we find out her name is Kait. Hyatt asks her to join them for lunch and a game of darts. Of course Hyatt's damn sexy smile melts Kait's frosty entrance... well, somewhat anyway.
***Note: Snippet has been modified to fit the 8 sentence limit.

Her hand feathered over the darts arranged—for the moment—harmless on the table. “I’ll go next, if ye’re fixin’ to play another round.”
Michaela wondered how wise it would be to let the woman have a weapon, but Alan didn’t notice the danger. “Go ahead. Give it yer best shot,” he told her.
Her slim hips sashayed back and forth before making her move. “Who’s yer new friend, Alan?” Kait asked as her dart attacked the board with a thud.
“Michaela’s from the States,” he offered and then turned toward her and added, “Michaela, let me introduce Kait MacDonald.”
****************************************************************************************
Hmm... Does Kait have a thing for Alan?

Set up: Michaela just challenged Alan to a game of darts and won. Alan gallantly compliments her on a job well done. However, their fun time may be at an end when blondie shows up to join the party...

Michaela chuckled, but her smile slid away to confusion when her gaze caught sight of a blonde woman near the front entrance of the pub. Her heated gaze narrowed in on them—first to Hyatt then to Alan before the blonde’s gaze shifted to her. Blondie’s nostrils flared as if she disliked Michaela on the spot. She could be a disgruntled girlfriend perhaps, but whose—Alan’s or Hyatt’s?
Blondie’s strides were long and purposeful, heading right toward them. Oh goody, Michaela groaned inwardly. A confrontation, she couldn’t wait.
“Alan, Hyatt,” the woman announced the names as an accusation.
****************************************************************************************
So who do you think 'blondie' is?

Michaela has challenged Alan to a game of darts. If Michaela's score tops Alan's, will he be a sore loser?
Set up: Alan throws the dart and it hits just inside the ridge of the bull’s eye. He glances at Michaela with a smug smile.
***Note: Snippet has been modified to fit the 8 sentence limit. A few sentences were skipped and others combined.

“Do ye always stick out yer tongue when ye’re concentratin’?” His mouth curved and he pointed to her mouth. “Yer wee tongue, it slips out when ye focus.”
“Does not,” she said as she glanced at Hyatt to back her up.
“Afraid it does, lassie,” Hyatt said with a sighed.
Michaela pursed her lips together and turned with a swift movement, letting the dart fly.
“Dead center,” Hyatt cried out with a laugh and picked Michaela up and swung her around.
“Put the young lassie down before ye break her,” Alan reprimanded, but he wore a grin himself as he bowed to her.
****************************************************************************************
Alan seemed pleased she did so well. Don't you agree?

Setup of the scene...
Michaela and Alan had a moment and now she doesn't want him to leave. When Hyatt asks Alan to join them in a game of darts, Alan is about to refuse. What's a girl to do? Hmm... Michaela is speaking first.
**************************************************************************************************
“No, he’s chicken,” she said, challenging him.
Hyatt hooted with laughter and asked, “Ye goin’ to let a lassie call ye chicken?”
Alan’s eyelids closed and opened with a slow deliberate blink of irritation, but he stood. She held out her hand, offering him a dart, and he yanked it from her, determination stamped on his face. “Stand aside.” He glanced at her with his eyes flickering to a darker shade of blue. “Let me show ye how it’s done.”
Michaela waved her hand in front of her. “Be my guest.”

Challenge accepted...

Set up for the scene of Chapter 4 #3: Recap from last week.
***Note: Snippet has been modified to fit the 8 sentence limit. Michaela doesn't want to reveal she has an inoperable brain aneurysm. She does tell Alan and Hyatt that Drumnadrochit called to her...
**************************************************************************************************
Blake cared about her, but not enough for him to let her go. “I suppose telling you Drumnadrochit called to me sounds silly to you.”
“A callin’ is never silly.” Alan’s large hand covered hers.
The heat of his touch and the impact of his gaze made Michaela believe he truly did understood.
“Hey, are we goin’ to play or what?” Hyatt’s voice broke the moment.
Alan removed his hand, taking the warmth with him.
**************************************************************************************************
Aah... Alan understands.
