Actual Human and Physical Robotics ... via Photogrammetry of Human into virtual Human (think SL avatar bot) into Digital Lego Robotics ... and for tele-robotic surgery ... in a single realistic virtual earth (at cell and ATOMIC levels too)?

And if the robot were Lego - how do we create a Lego robot like this robot in MIT photo - we would be teaching Lego robots to dance.

And potentially we will be able to sculpt Lego robotics to create beautiful moving human forms – Pygmalion-like? – and then into the Harbin warm pool, or bath tub, together with robot, connected by some kind of cables, and teaching it to dance.

And then if this all happened in a realistic virtual Harbin – avatar bot of you or of me, realistic, and teaching the virtual Lego robot which we made and sculpted …

Kangaroo Apple: Develop genetic engineering developments for longevity skillfully in a single realistic virtual earth for CRISPR Cas9 genetic engineering + * * * Building from alcoholism / addiction tele-medicine? Project Baseline with Project ECHO ... in

Scots' history (was: A doll party tea! :)
Dear  All, Professor John Hennessy, Celtic connections,

Since few of us made it to the Asilomar Scottish Country Dancing Ball in Monterey this past weekend, I'm writing to share the good news that genetic engineering for longevity seems to be proceeding rapidly:
Here's an example of an early experimental genetic therapy for longevity ...
Harvard Medical School @harvardmed
Scientists used a combination of 3 longevity-associated genes, delivered through a one-time injection, to dramatically improve or reverse multiple age-related diseases in mice (via @BostonGlobe)

https://twitter.com/harvardmed/status/1191802354271686657
Now how best to further develop these genetic engineering developments for longevity skillfully in a single realistic virtual earth for CRISPR Cas9 genetic engineering +  ... so some of us might be able to go to the Asilomar Scottish Country Dancing Ball in 2152, or to the St. Catherine's Scottish Country Dancing Ball near Niagara Falls (for the Scotophiles in this email - and with some of whom I traveled twice to the St. Catherine's SCD ball in the mid-1970s :) in 12,432 (that's old!:), or  live (and dance) to 150 yo in a 30 year old body, which I think is what Harvard Genetics' Professor has suggested might be possible - https://web.archive.org/web/20180605002848/https://www.wired.com/story/the-responsibility-of-immortality/ - but I can't currently find the quote (see, too, for related resources - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/06/montane-ecosystems-longevity.html and https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/06/montane-ecosystems-longevity.html .
I invite us all to wiki-aggregate and wiki-teach further about this here at the Longevity wiki subject page at World Univ & Sch - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Longevity (and eventually in all ~200 countries' official / main languages, including potentially Scots' Gaelic - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Scottish_Gaelic_language :)

Hi Dave,

Since it looks like there's no SCD or Open Band music-making at St. Clement's due to Veteran's Day - and so we won't be able to talk then as you had suggested - I thought I'd email you now. I know your CMO, Jon, a little from some years ago ...
From LinkedIn: "Hi Dave, Nice to talk after SCD yesterday. FYI: beginning WUaS Med Schs & /Hospital https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Medical_School & some thoughts about Projects Baseline & ECHO - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2017/12/chiricahua-national-monument-projects.html -S"Some thoughts came to mind with regards to what you told me about yesterday evening:
Brainstorming-wise, and with regards to successful interventions for your addiction and alcoholism patients, I wonder if you/RIA might be able to network with Project Baseline, and use getting your patients into a Project Baseline clinic IDEA, or similar, (your own clinics? ) to give their physical samples of blood, sweat, tears, saliva, stool, etc., and do a cardio exam in a clinic (or eventually even from home), where Project Baseline would then turn these physical samples into data ... to chart a path way to health for them. This is the idea behind Project Baseline as I understand it but best to 'brush up' on your Project Baseline knowledge for yourself, from Youtubes or similar) ...
So if your patients could be 'incentivized' to change their drinking habits and by getting on a cardio machine (and to exercise) initially, in the name of contributing to science and a study, and get into the clinic too, they might be incentivized to change their alcoholic behavior - a kind of educational approach too - and then you might be able to show further results, and thereby help you get RIA into the value chain (ie financial reimbursement loops). Your Stanford and MIT links might help you find your way into openings in Project Baseline study, created by Alphabet / Google / Verily / Stanford / Duke University 10,000 person project / study (and Project Baseline may already be showing results among alcoholics - re data to show Anthem etc.).
More about Project Baseline and Project ECHO here from 2017 - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/20... (and sprinkled throughout my active blog as well).
World University and School is envisioning our first online Medical School in English beginning about 4 years from now (after a CC-4 MIT OCW-centric Bachelor's degree class beginning in 2020, a first Ph.D. class beginning in 2021, a first law class beginning in 2022, and potentially a Med Sch class in 2023 - as WUAS licenses with the state of CA's BPPE.
Project Baseline in this WUaS actual-virtual physical-digital envisioning would become the online hospital (re its virtual or digital focus) - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Hospital - brainstorming-wise, and even for genetic engineering therapies on corresponding-to-humans' avatar bots via avatar bot electronic medical records,
And since MIT itself doesn't have a Med School or a Law School, WUaS seeks to emerge out of Stanford Medicine and Law for OpenCourseWare for these schools in ~200 countries' official / main languages.
WUaS sees Project ECHO - think MD specialists to rural populations in group video with a mentoring aspect (like a GI doctor, a pharmacologist and a psychiatrist for Hepatitis C) - with a mentoring aspect in group video, as budding Medical Schools in group video - https://twitter.com/ProjectECHO - and I heard and met its founder, Sanjiv Arora MD (whose daughter went to Stanford) at a Stanford Medicine Grand Rounds' talk.

Kea: Where are Object Database Systems going? - Google Poly ?, Heart device monitors, Self-driving automobiles, Adult robots? Ethical AI * * * Consumer Reports' approach to AI ethics, if you will, and in lieu of 'inspections.'

Jim,

Thanks. I'm planning to re-watch the "Ethics in the Digital Transformation" Harvard panel again as well.

Re the website - https://lwn.net/Articles/285672/ - you shared, I don't see yet the relationship between the Cardisio case example in Roberto's AI Ethics' inspection model - http://cognitive-science.info/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/CSIGTalkZicari.20191031.pdf - and Object Database Systems' future re website -
€ Where are Object Database Systems going?
€ Are Relational database systems becoming Object Databases?
€ Do we need a standard for Object Databases?
€ Why ODMG did not succeed?
If this might conceptually find form eventually in something like Google Poly library of digital objects, or in Second Life / Open Sim's interchangeable library of virtual objects, theoretically informed by AI, and if this would find further form in a single realistic virtual earth (am thinking here, brainstorming-wise, Google Street View / Maps / Earth / Poly and for tele-robotic surgery at cellular and atomic levels too re Google Poly objects with digital robots and digital organs and digital Cardisio's then am appreciating Roberto's 'internal-to-Intel-German-Univs-IBM's' Ethics' AI process) ... am wondering how this conceptually single realistic virtual earth could facilitate AI Ethics' inspections and re its machine learning (eg TensorFlow). Eg how could one add Cardisio to said realistic virtual earth / Google Street View with digital hearts (from some of 10,000 patients in the Stanford / Duke / Alphabet's Project Baseline) ... and inspect the AI?
And what happens when the 'state' entities (conceptually emerging from the UN, or the EU, or ) - any given nation state out of ~200 of them, and across languages - steps in to regulate/inspect Roberto's AI Ethics' process?
I couldn't find Robert Zicari's email and re also contacting other contributors to this IBM CSIG presentation: Irmhild van Halem, Matthew Eric Bassett, Karsten Tolle, Timo Eichhorn, Todor Ivanov, Jesmin Jahan Tithi about all of this ... but while I'm interested in AI Ethics and related audits re CC-4 MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch, I'm more focuses on a variety of other questions, in WUaS's impoverishment, I come back to tying ethics with law more fulsomely. Perhaps World University and School's online Law Schools in ~200 countries' official / main languages and faculty cant teach about some of these questions under one WUaS umbrella. (India which is looking toward technology and health technology for its future generates a whole different culture and context and discourse around ethics - https://twitter.com/HarbinBook/status... and  https://www.sundayguardianlive.com/news/get-tinge-digital-soul - than the West).
Innovation also seems to be a key focus of this website - https://lwn.net/Articles/285672/ - you shared, and I'm glad, but I didn't hear too much focus about that in his talk, and think the example of Stanford / Alphabet and Silicon Valley since 1996 (Google) is german here, culturally, legally, AI Ethics' inspection-wise (Sacramento, California state law) and innovation-wise.
Thanks, ScottPSRelated questions will emerge if Stanford Medicine / Stanford CDH finds its way to actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs (my actual-virtual ethnographic field site) to test its promising medical devices for example - https://twitter.com/HarbinBook - and in numerous other ways in a realistic virtual Harbin Hot Springs.

Great to see you in the talk - http://cognitive-science.info/community/weekly-update/ - this morning. Am curious about your thinking re the topic of this AI Ethics' talk re business as well.
All the best, Scott

Here's my question to Roberto: 31 October 2019 11:30am US EasternRoberto ZicariEthical AI Due DiligenceGoethe University FrankfurtSlidesThanks for your edifying, timely and topical talk, Roberto. Am curious about the role of law first - and in all ~200 countries’ official languages (a CC-4 MIT OCW-centric World Univ & Sch focus) - and the history of law in response to ethical breaches re AI, and building out a framework from this - and esp. re business law? MIT (re racism and fairness AI questions) and Google/Alphabet (re TensorFlow), Stanford and re Silicon Valley history the Food and Drug Administration in relation to Big Pharma, have all addressed many related ethics' questions for example. Why not start with law (California, EU - GDPR) first in building such framework further, and then to inform ethics in the information age - re approaches to ethics' inspection?

Law is the logical starting point.

Since our AI's are our data - it is important to get laws around data clear and enforceable.

to JimHi Jim,

Did you grow up as a Unitarian by any chance? Sometimes I've wondered. (My parents met and married in the Unitarian church in Cincinnati, OH, but I didn't grow up with any religion that I know of). Am curious whether Roberto is looking seeking an ethic beyond the law of each of all ~200 countries re substitute a religion for "Christian" ethics (informed too now by 'business ethics' ) ... to inform his AI Ethics' investigation process (not wanting to head in the direction of the historical legacy of the Inquisition, for example?). Is he Italian, Swiss (where one of Switzerland's 4 official languages is Italian) or?
World Univ & Sch's has been developing with a Friendly / Quaker / Atheist Quaker / Non-theist Friends/NtF process, and which is informing WUaS's ethic, and probably re AI eventually as well.
Sincerely, Scott

to JimHi Jim,

Re Roberto's Cardisio heart hardware monitor with its AI example , am curious too about some alternative AI ethics' testing approaches emerging from a Consumer Reports' approach to AI ethics, if you will, and in lieu of 'inspections.' For example the new December issue of CR reviews laptops again, presumably with some budding consumer AI tools built in. A CR approach for hospital devices keeps the market in the story, and probably exists for hospitAl devices already too - and for heart monitor smart watches in CR already or almost. Extending CR testing to all 200 countries' for hospital devices and related AI - at WUaS, and as a jobs' creator in all countries/languages too?

And I just looked up 'software' in Consumer Reports va the Berkeley Public Library, and found from 2005 anti-virus product review. See below.

And I don't know CR well enough to know if they've ever reviewed any comparable book titles like "cook books" etc. as kinds of AI precursors , or comparable magazines (and even magazines covered by free speech in this country such as Playboy, Penthouse, Hustler, if not meeting some communities' ethical norms, for example), but wonder what AI Ethics' inspections per Roberto's thinking would do with life-like adult robots that could be programmed in some years to talk dirty for example. What if a Russian ecosystem of AI product creators crossed some ethics' panels lines, but not international legal lines in these regards?

to meThanks Scott - lots of interesting ideas and thoughts in your last three emails.

I was raised non-denominational Protestant in Newburgh ME where my job was to start the fires in the winter two hours before services began, married my Catholic wife and raised our children Catholic, have an aunt who is Mormon, Jewish roots, and Mom who switched to Unitarian, and mentor Muslim scholars, while my wife works to save Native American and Indigenous languages and cultures  - and admire Quakers, Amish, and even Shakers -though find them somewhat unsustainable - but perhaps in an OK wayin the bigger picture.

Trusted AI is a hot topic and will generate a lot of smoke as we all collectively muddle forward to explore its implications.   Ultimately laws will be developed, though we are decades away from "real AI" - for example 2060 is when an exascale of computing is expected to cost about $1000 - our brain is an exascale (billion billion instructions per second) running on 20 watts of power to good approximation.   IBM helped build and operats the fastest super-computer in the world SUMMIT - which is 1/5 the computing power of a single human brain, and consumes an amazing 13 Megawatts of power.

For WUaS goal, as language translation becomes better and better - you goal will come closer and closer to reality - and I suspect Mozilla's Common Voice is the ideal partner if you can mobilize the people whose languages are disappearing to participate in Common Voice speech donation project. It is bet to have many people who speak a language give samples, rather than one "super donor' who gives lots of their speech and accidentally incorporates bias into the data.

My philosophy of life is to be nice, be concise, and try to understand as much as possible - my theory of acting in the world is to do the smallest thing to be helpful - not trying to be too big a helper on anything or for anyone - just many, many, many small nudges in many directions for many people who are trying to realize their dream, and share a little of my understanding of the world.  Not too much though - since most of it is probably wrong.  Life is very short, and I am just passing through.

Thanks, -Jim

With regards to ethics and technologies at MIT, I find MIT Professor of Anthropology (and Quaker I think) Heather Paxson's observations here - https://twitter.com/MIT_SHASS/status/... - https://shass.mit.edu/news/news-2019-... - germane, and even wonder whether some WUaS Anthropology graduate students could study some of the Ethical AI questions that Zicari raises in varies countries, languages, and 'AI ecosystems of ethical principles' (Roberto's concept).

Am curious how a Z-inspection of a California/West Coast device in the California ecosystem ethic might work, paralleling a related Z-inspection of Russian AI in its Russian ecosystem ethic, and similarly with China, Africa, Indonesia and India, brainstorming-wise, and with regard to his closing observations.

In watching and thinking about Roberto Zicari's talk, and the Harvard "Ethics in the Digital Transformation" panel too, I'm curious too about developing some further groundwork for AI Ethics at MIT OCW-centric World University and School. Engaging the case or example I mentioned earlier of "what AI Ethics' inspections per Roberto's thinking would do with life-like adult robots that could be programmed in some years to talk dirty," or to talk sexually in a differential way, as objects, (like heart device monitors, or self-driving cars), I'm curious brainstorming-wise, how if law in Nevada / Netherlands already makes the sex trade legal, and if California law might make legal a gig economy including the 'sex trade,' but some ecosystems of AI ethics in these 3 places wouldn't - and also with regard eventually to AI adult robots talking sexually, how would such AI Ethics' inspections from Univ Frankfurt / Intel / IBM work into Russian or Californian AI ecosystem?

And furthermore, in a realistic virtual earth, realistic virtual Harbin (Google Street View at the cellular and atomic levels too), and for actual-virtual Harbin ethnographic field work with robotics, how would such Z-Inspections work?

Re your Trusted AI and real AI, and IBM's very fast computer, one last thing Roberto's IBM CSIG talk didn't seem to address with regard to AI Ethics' inspections is Google's so-called Quantum supremacy - https://twitter.com/techreview/status... - and also how this may play out with Google Earth / Maps / Street View / Tensor Flow - Translate too.

And re your email, am wondering how Wikidata lexemes which we all aggregate in Wikipedia's 300 languages will inform Google Translate and how to integrate/ collaborate with the Mozilla Common Voice model.

Thanks for your email this morning.

Best regards, Scott

Hi Jim,

I think you'll find some anthropological insights in the Heather Paxson interview I emailed you. (Heather has a Stanford Ph.D. so she knows the California ecosystem ethics, and to Haverford College in Philadelphia, perhaps the highest achieving historically Quaker college) In terms of Friendly/Quaker ethics, and that even might be applied to Ethical AI, and with regard to the slide at 3:10 - https://youtu.be/jrwuZvt_H7k - S.P.I.C.E.S. come to mind. Quakers/Friends have long had a peace testimony, and a focus too on simplicity, truth and equality, where S.P.I.C.E.S. refers to:
Simplicity - Understandable and Explainable AI
Peace - non-harming (1:55 minute)
Integrity - Trust
Community - citizens
Equality - minimize the risk of bias
Stewardship - businesses

... and I've added the related items from the EU's Roberto Viola in the "Policy Makers and AI" slide at 3:10. Un-programmed Quakers also can seek to facilitate change with social justice, in a quiet activist way.

Looks like Roberto Zicari is Italian ...
http://gotocon.com/aarhus-2012/speake...
https://digital.hbs.edu/people/robert...

World Univ & Sch (MIT OCW-centric and wiki) may seek to engage SPICES as we engage and build an ecosystem of Ethical AI in all 7111 known living languages.

Thanks, Scott

*

Jim,
In SPICES, C stands for Community - which could refer to citizens here ...

And related blog post is here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/20... (and still a bit in development)
I could see SPICES as a complementary approach to Ethical AI and informing 'inspection' and process ideas potentially in new ways.
Thanks, Scott

What this adds to seeking to understand awareness or sentience or feeling re perceiving is both a machine learning as well as a language approach - https://twitter.com/MikeQuindazzi/status/1189951040176697344 and https://twitter.com/HarbinBook/status/1190709743834165248 - and to using language at the cellular and atomic levels - re what machine learning can 'see' ... and potentially within a realistic virtual earth ...

Feeling perceiving in the virtual Harbin warm pool with a brain wave headset at the cellular and atomic levels re 'mapping' meditation or the relaxation response as conscious aware enjoyment ... in clusters of the brain per Tononi's Integrated Information Theory ITT - (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_information_theory and see, too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_problem_of_consciousness) - and Phi measure of consciousness, more explicitly identified?

"Relationship to the "hard problem of consciousness"
[edit]David Chalmers has argued that any attempt to explain consciousness in purely physical terms (i.e. to start with the laws of physics as they are currently formulated and derive the necessary and inevitable existence of consciousness) eventually runs into the so-called "hard problem". Rather than try to start from physical principles and arrive at consciousness, IIT "starts with consciousness" (accepts the existence of consciousness as certain) and reasons about the properties that a postulated physical substrate would have to have in order to account for it. The ability to perform this jump from phenomenology to mechanism rests on IIT's assumption that if the formal properties of a conscious experience can be fully accounted for by an underlying physical system, then the properties of the physical system must be constrained by the properties of the experience."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integrated_information_theory

*
The actual-virtual and physical-digital co-constituting distinctions above could be used to 'tag' with machine learning both subjectively reported actual experiences of consciousness and similar (sentience), and also tag physical brain observations of related activity (brain activity) ... where modeling these in simulations (both virtually and digitally) could also help the further subjective and scientific naming of the actual experiences of consciousness and sentience, and physicality of this in the brain ... (correlatively at first?)

Semester at Sea
University on a Ship
(coordinators, administrators, faculty and friends)

Hi Autumn,

Thanks for your nice email. Great to be in communication with you as well. I'll respond to a few of your questions below. How are you, and where are you heading next career-wise re your vision for this?

> What a wonderful opportunity since 2017 (?) to provide online education around the world in 300 languages!!!!

World Univ & Sch incorporated as a 501 c 3 non-profit in 2010, and as a parallel for-profit general stock company, the WUaS Corp / Press in 2017 - 2 separate legal entities in CA, and so far not yet financially operational. WUaS is planning major online universities in each of ~200 countries' official languages, and wiki schools for open teaching and learning in all 7111 known living languages. On the WUaS Corporation side (which we incorporated in 2017), WUaS is planning educational services' bookstores/ computer stores / robotics' stores / hospital technologies / an academic press with machine translation in all 7111 and much more - See, conceptually, item 9 in these 2016 14 planned revenue streams on both wings of WUaS - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2016/01/14-planned-wuas-revenue-streams.html - planning to become an all-language academic human resources' online manpower-brain power-language-power jobs' source for our graduates and others).

> Where are the students from and how many students do you have currently enrolled?

As WUaS seeks first to license with CA's BPPE for online free-to-students' MIT OCW-centric Bachelor and Ph.D. degrees, first in English, WUaS is seeking our 2nd undergraduate class of 500-2000 students for the autumn of 2020 - with students from all  ~200 nation states studying for free-to-students' online Bachelor's degrees from home in English.

> What are the most popular degrees? Does the school/uni run year-round?

World Univ & Sch is currently planning 6 degrees for undergraduates - worlduniversityandschool.org - and will build out potentially to 32 degrees in MIT OCW's departments. The major universities will run all year round as we develop the platform for both synchronous and asynchronous learning and courses. Seeking here to become the Harvard / Stanford / Oxbridge / MIT of the Internet and to offer online in ~200 countries' main languages Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, Medicine - MD and I.B. high school degrees.

Your ESL language knowledge and related dovetail remarkably with WUaS's multi-lingual focus (where CC-4 MIT OCW is in 5 languages currently). And if you might be interested, WUaS has a part time fundraising / grant writing position available; see the recent WUaS Monthly Business Meeting Minutes' item 2 - Minutes:- https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2019/10/minutes-for-world-univ-sch-monthly.html

https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/10/scintillant-hummingbird-minutes-for.html
Unfortunately WUaS hasn't become financially operational in all these years yet, as you may have seen in the financial reports from last WUaS MBM, but after a Reed College Alumni conference call (Reed Career Alliance - RCA) yesterday, I'm hopeful that the financial tides for WUaS may be beginning to turn.
In 2005, I traveled on SAS from Florida to Venezuela, Brazil, South Africa, Mauritius, India and beyond ... and then headed to Harbin Hot Springs in NorCal to begin field work for my actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs' ethnography, which the Academic Press at WUaS published in 2016 - https://www.amazon.com/author/scottmacleodworlduniversity. In seeking to facilitate a single realistic virtual earth for everything (think Google Street View / Maps / Earth with Second Life, but realistic and for medicine, for example) but especially ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - http://www.scottmacleod.com/research-group.html - a new social science theory and method I'm developing, I'd like to extend my ethnographic field sites beyond Harbin to Scotland, India and Germany! I went to one SAS reunion in SF earlier this year, but haven't been too engaged with SAS recently.
Nice to be in communication. Much creative generation here, and seeking to make it real re finances, and growth!
Sincerely, Scott

Hi Scott!!!

It is wonderful to hear from you!!!
It looks like you are busy running World Uni and School!!! I checked out the school's Youtube and Twitter pages. What a wonderful opportunity since 2017 (?) to provide online education around the world in 300 languages!!!! Where are the students from and how many students do you have currently enrolled?  What are the most popular degrees? Does the school/uni run year-round? I have been in the fields of ESL, EFL, EIL, Nonprofits, Higher Ed, and Global Ed combined for 20 years. A while ago, I received my MA in TESOL and last year studied a MA in Nonprofit Management and Leadership.
I read your writing on your website about your Fall 2005 Voyage. In F99, we knew the ship as the Great White Mother, but Student Ship makes sense as well! I remember you playing your bagpipes on the F99 Voyage! What was your teaching or staff role on the F05 Voyage? Where did you sail on F05? I sailed with SAS again on their one-month Fire and Ice Enrichment Voyage in May/June 2014 embarking from Germany to Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, Russia, Sweden, Denmark, Scotland, Iceland, Northern Ireland and disembarking in England. I have also gone on a few SAS Reunion Voyages/Homecoming Voyages too. Now I volunteer as the AZ Alumni Chapter Rep for SAS since 2017.
Sincerely,
Autumn

to autumnhulke, karen.burns.wg86, galletta, haileynicole, Scott, JanieHi Autumn, Karen, Nicole and Dennis,
Thanks for connecting in LinkedIn, Autumn, with -  "What is your current home address? I would like to send you a Christmas card in Dec. :)" - and which I've put below.
I'm taking the opportunity to say hi to you all (with whom I'm also connected in L.I.)
Am continuing in an out of the box way to develop CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare-centric wiki World University and School, which a bit like Semester at Sea in broad vision, seeks to create online MIT OCW-centric universities in all ~200 countries' official and main languages, as well as wiki schools for open teaching and learning in all 7,111 known living languages.  The online Bachelor, Ph.D. Law, M.D. and I.B. high school degrees will be free to students (with reimbursement planned from countries' departments of Education, for example). Am also continuing to develop my actual-virtual Harbin Hot Springs' ethnographic project, and in conjunction with this for WUaS to facilitate developing a realistic virtual earth for everything - think Google Street View with time slider / Maps / Earth at the cellular and atomic levels too / TensorFlow / Translate and with avatar bots of individuals and species and which is group-buildable a bit like Second Life, but with realistic avatar bots, not cartoon-esque ones. Hopefully this will dovetail with ships' navigation systems and we'll be able to visit the ports we visited in 1999 again virtually, thanks to all the photos and videos we add to this virtual earth which will then all be patched together into a whole earth.
While there's a 'Semester at Sea' label in my daily blog - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/Semester%20at%20Sea - check out, for example, the 'global university' and the 'virtual Harbin' blog labels among others.
And on my web site there's a bit about Semester at Sea as well - http://scottmacleod.com/SAS2005/SAS2005index.htm (accessible from http://scottmacleod.com).
What are you all of you up to?  (How's Carol, Dennis?) Who has sailed again with SAS since 1999, - and when? :)
Thanks for your message, Autumn.
Warm greetings, Scott

Hi Autumn, Karen, Dennis, Hailey, and Janie,

You might enjoy this update on World University and School and some of Autumn's and my recent Semester at Sea (Autumn 1999!!!) experiences - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/11/autumn-colors-hi-autumn-and-semester-at.html.
Unfortunately we can't engage such history and experiences in a single realistic virtual earth for history, and tourism, and Semester at Sea photos/videography and experiences, but World Univ & Sch is seeking to facilitate this!

Nelumbo nucifera: To refract - to make such symbolic 'rays of light,' or communications, change direction, or 'glance' away * * * Changed political party from Democrat to Green in California recently, and got the confirmation card from the voter registrat

Hi M,
. . . I learned of the verb to refract from my Swiss French friend Marc Dupuis, and in a way I've also learned to make such symbolic 'rays of light,' or communications, change direction, or 'glance' (hit something at an angle and bounce off) away from me. . . . Refractory means however - stubborn or unmanageable, and I guess this could apply to . . . as well. May be emblematic of a successful coping strategy over 5 decades here in Canyon, interestingly.
So, I pull into my parking place in the evening, headlights shining on the shop door, and there's a new symbol or assemblage of symbols in front of me ... like viewing a stage set (symbols in the sense of stage props too). This property is his 'range' (in a primate sense even) and perhaps this is how he's learned to cope here in Canyon since the late 1969s or early 70s. There's a kind of wild 'Dingo Den' quality of relationships here in Canyon in my experience that D understands in a way I don't ...

* * *
I changed political party from Democrat to Green in California recently, and got the confirmation card from the voter registration office yesterday in mail. (I guess this makes me a card-carrying Green Party member). This could be more significant in other places / countries than California / the USA but I agree with the Green Party platform in general, - and voting with a smaller party may make it possible to effect change with greater impact, than in a larger party. California's on the left coast anyway so I don't think Rs would win here, and I can still vote for the D presidential nominee if sensible. Am glad we have longest constitutional democracy on planet, and that the democratic political process is well developed and developing now anew in the information age.
It seems like new alliances between Green party CA and Green parties in Europe might be possible, - but not necessarily with US Democratic Party members, since this isn't a party in other countries - and I think alliances are where it's at in the politics I've learned in Europe. Re Manuel Castells' fairly recent book "Networks of outrage and hope - social movements in the Internet age" (2012), the Greens are a social movement in this sense, and more international than other political parties in the US.

* * *
So we're all coping - and symbolically - in a great way (re Lacan's symbolic, real and imaginary / narcissistic 3 registers of the mind or "PSYCHE CAN BE DIVIDED into three major structures that control our lives" speculatively and theoretically -  and perhaps too re John Money's 3 'coping strategies' - http://scottmacleod.com/JohnMoneyConceptsOfDeterminism.html - which I find interesting to think about and theoretically -
"Coping Strategies
The human organism has three generic strategies for coping with the five universal exigencies: adhibition, inhibition, and explication. These strategies are under the governance of bodymind and should not be attributed to such inferential entities as unconscious motivation, voluntary choice, or willpower.")

Am an appreciator of Lacan's focus on parole - speech, language - in communicating ! How are you all of you (and re thresholds of stress - where threshold is another concept I've learned from John Money, and will post to one of these pages from his 1988 book eventually - http://scottmacleod.com/JohnMoneyConceptsOfDeterminism.html)
And I suppose, I'm also a symbolizer re this daily blog or web log - eg http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2014/05/eastern-cottonhead-rabbit-building-on.html - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2010/05/sweet-birch-questions-of-determinism-on.html - with some interesting ideas, and John Money and Jacques Lacan MD 'labels.'
On with seeking a partner here who's a great fit ...

P.S. some platforms - ideologies too? a word I don't dis-engage from some/much, ... or cultures in the information age, or social movements, and especially re the 'real' 'realism' of their histories, or political organizations' ideas ...
"The modern Democratic party emphasizes egalitarianism and social equality through liberalism. They support voting rights and minority rights, including LGBT rights, multiculturalism, and religious secularism."

The party promotes green politics, specifically ecology; nonviolence; social justice; participatory, grassroots democracy; gender equality; LGBT rights; anti-war and anti-racism.

Epistemology
First published Wed Dec 14, 2005
Defined narrowly, epistemology is the study of knowledge and justified belief. As the study of knowledge, epistemology is concerned with the following questions: What are the necessary and sufficient conditions of knowledge? What are its sources? What is its structure, and what are its limits? As the study of justified belief, epistemology aims to answer questions such as: How we are to understand the concept of justification? What makes justified beliefs justified? Is justification internal or external to one's own mind? Understood more broadly, epistemology is about issues having to do with the creation and dissemination of knowledge in particular areas of inquiry. This article will provide a systematic overview of the problems that the questions above raise and focus in some depth on issues relating to the structure and the limits of knowledge and justification.

Where o where is that solar panel to 24-hour lithium battery for storage - to heat this 2-room house-let's electric baseboard panel, and illuminate the abode too? On this ridge and with the house's full exposure rooves, in the California 10-month summer sun, there's a perfect testing opportunity. The passive solar water heater - with 2nd water tank as storage unit/almost battery - that went in about 4 years increases efficiency greatly, but it's solar panel energy system isn't a standalone success yet.

Where o where is effecient solar panel to effective 24-hour lithium battery system for storage to heat this 2-room house-let's single electric baseboard panel and illuminate it?

There are some World Univ & Sch wiki subjects about this. See one below ...

This wee video is kinda wild - !!! Mindstorms Solar Tracker ! ...

https://youtu.be/DXA1r2KleJ0 - because it shows you how to use Lego Robotics' Mindstorms EV3 to code for making a solar panel rotate to track the sun, including how to use its block programming language (and eventually with Scratch drag and drop programming language out of MIT MEDIA LAB as well) ...

thus making using solar panel energy systems potentially much more efficient. I didn't go out to look at my roof, or at the satellite dish on it either (probably re numerous other applications), ... but let's let little Mikey do it ...

Haven't climbed up on my wee roof yet either to play with Lego, but I could see putting something up there re Lego standard, and using Legos too, that would make a solar panel rotate to track the sun that much more efficiently, and stream energy into a 24 hour lithium ion battery (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-DbCslTabz_4/TgC0ydqI65I/AAAAAAAADyI/K3aulaNyrJc/s1600/energizerbunny.png) since they're coming on ... and with MindStorms ...

Wanna come over, sit on my roof, and play with Lego MindStorms ... to build solar ? :)

I'm finding fascinating #ActualVirtual #PhysicalDigital in #RealisticVirtualEarthForSTEM questions, and we still don't have a realistic virtual earth for exploring this (ie with Lego robotics as a start) in Brick Street View with Google Street View with time slider / Maps / Earth with avatar bots and at the cellular and atomic levels too and with Tensor Flow and Translate ... but beginning with Lego Robotics for kids learning via play ... and then into a Realistic Virtual Earth for Robotics ... :)

Re brainstorming NEWLY about the #ActualPhysical -

Again, epistemologically, the #ActualVirtual #PhysicalDigital re https://twitter.com/MIT/status/1189616542905823232 for STEM in #RealisticVirtualEarth is generative! & then #ActualPhysical - something like a video of MIT person connected wi (Lego) Robot as surgery manakin #RealisticVirtualEarthForSurgery ~

https://twitter.com/WorldUnivAndSch/status/1189646276100419584

I'm heading in the medicine and surgery direction, where robotics can be used for learning surgery via manakins ...

and then into a realistic virtual earth for surgery, and for one-to-one correspondence at cell and atomic levels too ... and via video photogrammetry ...

I suppose the guy moving in the MIT video above could be doing a Pas de Basque eventually as well ... and then the robot would do it concurrently ... so all you SCD teachers, how to teach the guy at MIT to do a Pas de Basque bound as he is with those cables while teaching the robot to jump up and down - and from out here in California in Skype one-to-one or group video even (but him not connected at first to the robot)? :)

Methinks this will inform my next upcoming book of poetry in one way or another - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html ... "To the Dance or the Pools ~ Virtually?: How Different it is to Soak at Harbin, than to Realize it in Virtual Reality" :)

What if the MIT man and the robot were dancing together for example ... and in the Harbin warm pool? :0)
