Great to talk. What are the anti-aging resource links you'd suggest checking out?

to meThanks for putting George Church on my radar. I'll take a look sometime when I get another lull in the activity. David Sinclair is definitely showier, but I like that he writes for a general audience about the ethical questions around extending life. If you have come across a more serious thinker/philosopher/ethicist who has something thoughtful to say about it, please let me know. Yes, that's the Calico I was talking about.Great to catch up

... and wonder if they've self-experimenting with genetic aging reversal, with George Church's help, since he's mentioned in arcile:
Had searched on "ethics of age reversal gene theory Stanford encyclopedia of philosophy"

Hi David,

I still haven't found a single philosopher ethicist thinker who knows the science especially ... but am appreciating possible kinds of hippy or even Taoist 'cultures' as potentially informing someone like George Church if he were also the hypothetical (but not him) philosopher ethicist thinker writing about aging reversal ethically. Worth looking in the bibliography of some of these Stanford articles for someone who may have already been writing about these questions for many years?

Cheers,
Scott

Stanford Law CodeX 'Future Law' conversation & re World Univ & Sch Law Schools ...

Dear Roland, Anja, John, Miguel, Michael, and Stephen,

Thanks for your very helpful Stanford Law CodeX presentations. I'm following up in these regards with collaboration questions with respect to CC-4 MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch.
In thinking about Covid-19, Anja, and open source software, John, and online 'justice law' learning, Miguel, how might we best come into conversation? I'm thinking in terms of CC-4 MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch's Avatar Bot Electronic Medical Records (https://twitter.com/hashtag/AvatarBotElectronicMedicalRecords?src=hashtag_click), re Covid-19, in all ~200 countries' and potentially for speakers of all 7,117 known living languages. WUaS is planning online Medical Schools, with online teaching hospitals, with online Law Schools for all ~200 countries, and are in CC-0 Wikidata's (Wikipedia's structured knowledge database in ~300 languages), approaches to building this out, as well as online courses and online internships in our planned online Law Schools (see below, and - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Law_School).
You'll get a sense of where World Univ & Sch is presently in this email to MIT President Rafael Reif - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/04/commelina-communis-collaboration-ideas.html - from today.

to me, Roland, jtredennick, mhastings, scaines, MiguelDear Scott and everyone,

with regard to question directed to me, we had some discussions around Apple and Google introducing sophisticated tracing. I recommend reading Chris Remus intake in addition to France asking mentioned companies to ease privacy rules  and make changes to their softwares so they can combat coronavirus.
At this stage, GCPR initiative presents a collection of public responses, meaning we’re looking to collect information about governmental policy responses. Data is being collected by many different organisations and from various angles (different legal domains).
My personal opinion is that big corporations which are in possession of our data, have became crucial stakeholders in global geopolitical area. They play an important role and have the ability to manipulate and affect human rights and thus lives of individuals. As such, I do believe they will bear more responsibility with regard to censorship and protection of rights as well as establishment of appropriate dispute mechanism when different rights and obligations clash in contradiction.
I’d be interested in exploring ways to find how we can support each other and empower collaboration. Attached are the GCPR introduction, which we send to potential supporting organisations and GCPR Sprint invite along with Guide (introduction only).
If you find yourself in a position where we can join efforts and support each other, please let me know.

Dear Roland, Anja, Miguel, John, and All,

Thanks so much for your thoughtful, and strategic planning, emails - re yesterday's Stanford Law CodeX. Sharing ideas may be a first step in collaborations.
Having taught "Society and Information Technology" for many years (long-time UC Berkeley Professor Manuel Castells' informed course), there's a question for me, to say it one way, of the 'co-constitutionality,' of information technologies with how and why people - individual hackers, and folks in universities, companies, governments, etc. - code them (and Google and Apple folks tend toward the 'progressive'). In the case of Covid-19 planning, and even regarding questions of interns learning law / justice, Miguel, and re coding for social justice (both legally and IT-wise), I read that the current Apple-Google contact tracing project is one of the least invasive to privacy of possible information technologies that could be used for Covid-19 contact tracing (see too:
An update on community testing with the state of California. https://t.co/NnlJg4hS2s— Robert M Califf (@califf001) April 8, 2020

https://twitter.com/califf001/status/1247929957868638209?s=20). And I also see that Google and Apple - software, and hardware-wise - are in most of the ~200 countries in the world on the distributed internet (which authoritarian countries' regimes can't 'deal with' very well, ie because they may want some aspects of IT, eg for commerce (AI and machine learning databases), but block other data sources - yet only for a time perhaps, in the midst of a pandemic, for ex.), and Google-Apple also employ some of the most skillful coders and engineers in the world in many countries (and their coding emerges from a USA legal framework, importantly, too). I also think that all ~200 countries (like France, in your example), and such countries' legal and cultural processes will do what they need to do to develop long term strategies against viral epidemics. And could Google and Apple superimpose GPS data, IT-wise, of individuals at a later date if needed to combat a new viral epidemic? - I'd guess yes). And yet could both I.T. coding, and legal processes, constrain successfully potential wrong-doing and injustice by governments - in all ~200 countries? There's an opportunity here to pick the information technologies as well as to code for justice in terms of the laws of each of ~200 countries' languages' even, as these IT and countries' coding processes unfold in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. And am appreciative too that Peter Norvig is the Head of Google's AI in all of these regards, and former President of Stanford, John Hennessy, is Chairman of Alphabet.
Harvard and MIT Professor of Genetics George Church's Tweets seem relevant here, eg ...  Will we forget again as soon as this is over?   Inside America’s Two-Decade Failure to Prepare for Coronavirus  https://politico.com/news/magazine/2020/04/11/america-two-decade-failure-prepare-coronavirus-179574 via

And so, I ask myself, how could CC-4 MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch's online Law Faculty / Professors, in all ~200 countries' official / main languages, and with wiki schools for open teaching and learning planned for speakers of all 7,117 known living languages - and then WUaS planning to code for all 7.5 billion people on the planet (eg regarding Avatar Bot Electronic Medical Records) - begin to teach online related law questions? Since MIT itself has neither a law school nor a medical school - so its CC-4 MIT OCW has only undergraduate and graduate courses in 4 languages, with about 2400 courses in English - WUaS seeks to emerge from Stanford Law and Stanford Medicine to develop our online ~200 Law and Medical schools. There are remarkable potential collaborations in these regards.
John, please let us know if you set up a slack-like workspace for Anja, or similar. Miguel - student interns regarding your great justice work on the MITx > edX platform? Anja, WUaS ~200 online law schools in countries' official languages, under one 'umbrella' offers a remarkable opportunity to define, create and write future law regarding your "if you find yourself in a position where we can join efforts and support each other."
Thanks, too, for your Twitter, Anja - https://twitter.com/AnjaBlaj. What are some of your Twitter feeds, Miguel and others? Thanks.

How are you? I hope this finds you well. I'm very concerned, to say the least, that in a time of the coronavirus pandemic and the state of California's shelter-at-home directive - https://covid19.ca.gov/stay-home-except-for-essential-needs/ - that Tom W is coming and going so much on this property at 670 Ridgecrest Road, Canyon 94516. And today and yesterday, two newish people have been coming onto the property who could be bringing the coronavirus with them, for example, putting me at risk, as well as yourself and your partner, Lindsay W. (Tom's daughter), in a serious way, And today, 2 of these 3 people (Stan H and Chester) were sitting about 6 feet or less from the head of my bed, for probably more than an hour today, as well, while Tom has been only some 10 feet away from the head of my bed for a number of days now. People are continuing to die from COVID-19 in California, and in the SF Bay Area, and while state of California testing seems to be available in other counties besides Contra Costa county -

to LindsaymariiaTomtomHank, Dominic, Ed, GLORY, Byron, chunyuou, Antonia, glorylane, Byron, KohHi Tom, Dominic, Lindsay, Glory, Ed, and All,

Greetings. How are you? I hope this finds you well. I just noticed that the SF Bay Area law requiring people to wear masks to protect against coronavirus went into effect yesterday, Wed. Apr 22, 2020:

"Coronavirus: Bay Area mask order takes effect Wednesday. Here’s what you need to know."https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/04/22/coronavirus-bay-area-mask-order-takes-effect-wednesday-heres-what-you-need-to-know/amp/
I'm very concerned, to say the least, that in a time of the coronavirus pandemic and the state of California's shelter-at-home directive - https://covid19.ca.gov/stay-home-except-for-essential-needs/ - that people are coming and going so much on this property at 670 Ridgecrest Road, Canyon 94516. (your daughter), in a serious way, And today, 2 of these 3 people (Stan H and Chester) were sitting about 6 feet or less from the head of my bed (with me potentially in it), with window open for probably more than an hour, as well. And Ivan Schneller and Travis have also been on this property recently a fair amount potentially bringing the coronavirus with them. People are continuing to die from COVID-19 in California, and in the SF Bay Area, and while state of California testing seems to be available in other counties besides Contra Costa county - https://twitter.com/califf001/status/1246497671625367552?s=20 - I haven't heard about this here yet. And there also isn't a vaccine yet. I think the Google-Apple contact tracing on smart phones project is in a beginning phase, and who knows, but testing may begin soon. But until this time, I'm not sure, Tom Wylie, if you understand how serious this coronavirus is, and why self-quarantine is such an effective strategy, when nothing else yet works. - or why you're not sheltering-at-home per CA's directive, as a form of self-protection. How best to broach the medical, public health and legal issues further? I've begun wearing a mask!
Thoughts, suggestions, questions, ideas? Thanks!
Stay safe.

to lindaywylie83, Dominic, tom, meDear Scott,
I hope this message finds you well. There are two concerns I wish to address in this email: Health and safety, and communication.

1. Health and Safety

• My family agrees that COVID-19 is a crisis that must be taken seriously.

• We are all practicing social distancing.

• Dominic and I only leave the property once a week to go to get food and the mail. When we go, we wear masks and use hand sanitizer before and after entering the public space. We wash all our produce and leave packages outside the house.

• My Father is leaving more frequently than us. However, he always wears his mask in public, uses hand sanitizer, and washes
his hands frequently.

• Travis is a family member who has been staying with us since the fall. He is a registered nurse and is taking this pandemic
seriously.

• It was unexpected to have two people visit the property yesterday. They are working on reducing fire hazards and taking care of our trees. I spoke with them this morning (6+ feet away) and told them that they must wear masks and stay 6+feet away from each other.

• No one should be near your window, but if that ever happens again, please ask them to move and shut your window. If you need me to talk with them, I am happy to do so. It is important that we all do our best to accommodate each other in these difficult times.

2. Communication

• We are compassionate, empathetic, and reasonable people. We want you to feel safe communicating with us directly.

• I find it threatening that you are including strangers on this email. Sharing our names, address, and issues you have with our family with strangers feels like an invasion of privacy to me. In the past, you also included Ed Smith on a complaint email about Sierra when she was prepping the exterior of your house for wood sealer. We do not know who Ed Smith is. I am sure you did not mean to make us feel uncomfortable, but you need to respectfully stop including outsiders in private matters.

• In the future, when you have an issue with anyone in my family or the community, please speak with us directly (6+ feet away, on the phone, or over email.)

• My father cannot manage email well. You are welcome to message Dominic and me. I do not use this email anymore. Please use - gmail.com - in the future.

I hope that this message eases your mind and lays a foundation for better communication in the future. I welcome further discussion if needed. (Dominic and I are both teaching from home. We can respond to future emails after 6:30pm.)

to meHi Scott,

I had an idea that I wanted to share with you. What do you think about having assigned laundry days during this crisis? That way, we would not run the risk of coming into contact with each other. You could have 2-3 days, my dad could have 2 days, and we could have 2 days.
If you like this idea, what days of the week do you want to be yours?
All the best,

Lindsay

Hi Lindsay,

Thanks for your email.
In that in planning for the seriousness of the coronavirus viral pandemic - i.e. around 50,000 people had died in the US as of yesterday, per Stanford Law Professor Hank Greely -
49,887 deaths in the US; over 50k soon. Not over yet...— Hank Greely (@HankGreelyLSJU) April 24, 2020

https://twitter.com/HankGreelyLSJU/status/1253523489299943424?s=20 - who was in my email to your Dad, Dominic and you, yesterday regarding Covid-19 and 670 Ridgecrest Road,
... and I'm appreciating much Dr. Fauci MD's thinking on Coronavirus, and regarding the autumn, eg - Dr. Anthony Fauci: ‘We Will Have Coronavirus In The Fall’ | TODAY

https://youtu.be/xpwuMH8OlVM
So scheduling laundry times re self-quarantining makes sense, per your email. And how about staggering days, and evenings too, for further flexibility? What if I were to take Tuesday evening, Wednesday in the day, Thursday evening, Friday day, Saturday evening, and Sunday in the day, or similar?
I really hope you, your Dad, Dominic and Canyon 94516 don't get the coronavirus / Covid-19, and I'm seeking to lower my risk of exposure too - and the only way presently to do so seems to involve self-quarantining, with social and physical distancing, wearing masks, and practicing hand-washing, etc. As you've observed perhaps - with the highest risk group of the US's oldest citizens, eg esp. in retirement communities and small insular communities - once the virus is spreading in these populations of high risk individuals (with old immune systems, as I understand this), it's very difficult to eliminate the virus from the these populations.
'Coronavirus rebels,' such as the quite 'significant' number of folks who were again on this property at 670 Ridgecrest this morning, and who aren't sheltering at home or wearing masks (per the state of California's laws / directives) seem to be putting themselves at great risk, as well as you and your family - and all of us. Am sorry for this - and am hoping they don't get this virus - or spread coronavirus any further than they may have already, if they are asymptomatic carriers, for example. I guess that the significant number of people on the property this morning again raises for me both public health and legal questions (as in my email to you yesterday in these regards).  Stay safe. Thank you.

Persian violet (Exacum affine): Stanford Law CodeX - Coronavirus / Covid-19, open source software, and online 'justice law' learning

Stanford Law [codex_group_meetings] TODAY! CodeX Mtg (4/23 @1.30p PT): FLI; Merlin Fdn; A2J Tech Fellowship - via Zoom

Anja Blaj <anja@futurelaw.io>Attachments8:06 AM (4 hours ago)
to me, Roland, jtredennick, mhastings, scaines, MiguelDear Scott and everyone,

with regard to question directed to me, we had some discussions around Apple and Google introducing sophisticated tracing.

Inside America’s Two-Decade Failure to Prepare for Coronavirus  https://politico.com/news/magazine/2020/04/11/america-two-decade-failure-prepare-coronavirus-179574 via

https://twitter.com/geochurch/status/1249009781970538496?s=20

I'm not sure if Tom W gets how serious this virus is, or why he's not sheltering-at-home per CA's directive, as a form of self-protection. to LindsaymariiaTomtomHank, Dominic, Ed, GLORY, Byron, chunyuou, Antonia, glorylane, Byron, KohHi Tom, Dominic, Lindsay, Glory, Ed, and All,

Stay safe. Thank you.
All the best, ScottAbout 40 coronavirus blog posts in the 'genes' label in recent weeks here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/genes -

Commelina communis: Collaboration ideas between MIT and World University and School (WUaS) * * MIT Open Learning Head's email - "Your email to President Reif"

Dear MIT President Reif,
I am writing to explore possible collaboration ideas between MIT and World University and School (WUaS). WUaS is developing an on-line, free-to-users’ university and already has a few students. In the next few years, we hope to expand from English into the official or main languages of about 200 major countries. Ultimately, we hope to be able to provide courses in all 7,117 living languages as wiki schools for teaching and learning. What makes us different then is two things: the courses and degrees are now and will remain free to the user and they will become available in any language.
For your information, WUaS contains two legal entities: a 501(c)3 federal nonprofit entity that is a nonprofit in the state of California, and a for-profit general stock company registered in the state of California. The latter is designed to generate funds to support the former, as described in  https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2020/04/wuas-corporation-business-plan-april.html ).
The main reason for directing this message to you is that many of the on-line courses we make use of were developed by MITx or MIT Open Course Ware under the creative commons 4.0 standard. This means that anyone else, including WUaS and any other part of MIT, is “free to share (copy and redistribute the material in any medium or format) and adapt (remix, transform and build upon)” the material. Your support of WUaS would likely increase the rate at which such courses are being developed and the range of disciplines that they cover.
Another reason for directing this message to you is that Larry Viehland (MIT ’69) is the Chair of the Board of WUaS.
In terms of what MIT would get from this, see these 15 planned WUaS revenue streams:  https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2020/04/15-planned-wuas-revenue-streams-both.html .  Moreover, our platform might be of use to MIT students if the coronavirus substantially impacts your activities in the fall of 2020.
What would WUaS get from this? We would be able to grow further and matriculate our second online undergraduate class this autumn. We would also be able to begin the licensing process with the state of California's Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (and then concurrently, accreditation with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges).
Please let me know your thoughts about this.
Sincerely, Scott MacLeod

Variable Neon Nudibranch: Dear MIT President Rafael Reif - "15 planned WUaS revenue streams - both wings - April 2020 - Updated" - to send out with the upcoming WUaS Minutes * WUaS Corporation Business Plan * * 1) a combined Virtual < > Physical compone

Dear Larry,

I decided to create a new "15 planned WUaS revenue streams - both wings - April 2020 - Updated" -
 https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2020/04/15-planned-wuas-revenue-streams-both.html

- to send out with the upcoming WUaS Minutes (https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2020/04/minutes-for-41820-open-wuas-monthly.html).

What might you add, suggest, etc., and in terms of a letter to MIT President Rafael Reif as well - and regarding the following too?

Am still working on the WUaS Corporation Business Plan - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2020/04/wuas-corporation-business-plan-april.html - and wanted to add

1) a combined Virtual < > Physical component further, as well as,

2) the exploring getting listed on Silicon Valley long term stock exchange as it develops, and under the wing of Alphabet, and a focus on -

3) UBI experiments into a single digital currency for most of 200 countries, and planning for speakers of all 7117 languages, in wiki WUaS schools, and coding for all 7.5 billion people, planning-wise, to distribute this.

Sincerely, Scott

Dear Larry, Board, and All,
Here's my first draft of an email to MIT President Rafael Reif, which we touched on in WUaS Monthly Business Meeting on Saturday. I think you know the language conventions of MIT, as an alumnus (and regarding your wife, Kim, too), but here's a beginning toward succinctness:

Dear MIT President Rafael Reif,
I'm writing to explore possible collaboration ideas between MIT and CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare-centric wiki World University and School, planned in ~200 countries' official / main languages, and in all 7,117 known living languages as wiki schools for open teaching and learning.
In terms of what MIT would get from this, see these 15 planned WUaS revenue streams: https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2020/04/15-planned-wuas-revenue-streams-both.html.
For your information, WUaS is 2 legal entities: 1) a 501 (c) 3 federal nonprofit entity, at the same time that WUaS is a nonprofit in the state of California, and 2) a for profit general stock company legal entity in the state of California (see WUaS Corporation's Business Plan - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2020/04/wuas-corporation-business-plan-april.html). Both wings are planned in all ~200 countries, and in all 7,117 known living languages.
And WUaS - in terms of what we would get from this - would be able to grow further, as well as matriculate our 2nd online undergraduate class of 500-2000 students this autumn, in English, and as we begin the licensing process with the state of California's Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (and then concurrently accreditation probably with WASC senior), as well as begin to develop our actual-virtual bookstores, computer stores, robotics' stores and hospital technologies' stores for example (see 15 planned revenue streams).
Larry Viehland is the Chair of the Board of World University and School, as well as its CFO, and is also the acting Chair of the Board and acting CFO of the WUaS Corporation.
Sincerely, Scott
I think I would consider adding in the email to President Rafael Reif, Alphabet Chairman John Hennessy, and edX CEO Anant Agarwal.
Thoughts, comments, questions, ideas?
Sincerely, Scott

Dear Larry,
I decided to create a new "15 planned WUaS revenue streams - both wings - April 2020 - Updated" -

What might you add, suggest, etc., and in terms of a letter to MIT President Rafael Reif as well - and regarding the following too?

On the WUaS Corporation wing, explore the emergence of the Silicon Valley Long Term Stock market - and seek to join this 'under the wing' of Alphabet / Google? More about the Long Term Stock exchange here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/02/centaurea-cyanus-bachelors-button-plans.html

Wed., April 22, 2020
Regarding an actual-virtual focus to a WUaS Corp business plan beyond - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2020/04/wuas-corporation-business-plan-april.html -
1Searched on 'best actual-virtual, physical-digital BOOKSTORE business plan' - and RETAILING is the idea -
Found - ONLINE College Bookstore Business Plan (AND THIS IS ONE KEY IDEA for WUaS, where students are also selling to each other, with echoes of Amazon - and contingent on a Google platform, brainstorming-wise)https://www.bplans.com/online_college_bookstore_business_plan/executive_summary_fc.php
And for ON-THE-GROUND - Electronics Retailer Business Plan
https://www.bplans.com/electronics_retailer_business_plan/executive_summary_fc.php
And here, ONLINE, they're estimating paying 46,000 per year to eBay for a platform / web site - Maternity Clothing Online Business Plan
https://www.bplans.com/maternity_clothing_online_business_plan/executive_summary_fc.php
Further ON-THE-GROUND - Musical Instrument Store Business Planhttps://www.bplans.com/musical_instrument_store_business_plan/executive_summary_fc.php
ONLINE - with their own website (which doesn't work)Home, Garden Gifts Online Business Plan
https://www.bplans.com/home_garden_gifts_online_business_plan/executive_summary_fc.php
All in - Free Retail and Online Store Sample Business Planshttps://www.bplans.com/retail_and_online_store_business_plan_templates.php
Amazon started primarily ONLINE and WalMart started ON-THE-GROUND - and MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch seeks to develop a combined actual-virtual, physical-digital business plan, potentially with an Alphabet-Google platform, - and in planning to code for all 7.5 billion wiki teachers / learners on the planet.

2Regarding WUaS exploring becoming listed on the emergent Silicon Valley long term stock exchange, under the wing of Alphabet (since WUaS has been in Google for Education since Wed, May 13, 2015, in  "Google Apps for EDU/Non-profit Next Steps" thread), More about the Long Term Stock exchange here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/02/centaurea-cyanus-bachelors-button-plans.html in this blog post -

3And then re UBI experiments, a single cryptocurrency backed by some number of ~200 countries' central banks ... and wiki WUaS planning to code for speakers of all 7,117 living languages, and then all for all 7.5 billion wiki-teachers and learners on the planet, it's the WikiTree genealogy software idea and mission that would inform this.
Now how best to add this all into the WUaS Corp Business Plan ... https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2020/04/wuas-corporation-business-plan-april.html ?
Seeking to hire as many people as WalMart - so about 2.2 million people - in all 200 countries and 7K languages, and on both the university side, and the retail store side.
Am hoping you're all doing well in this time of the coronavirus pandemic.
Sincerely, Scott- https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/global%20university - - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Foundation -

I'm writing to follow up on this thread from some weeks ago.
Is anyone, any of you know of, developing online post-Lacanian psychoanalysis, in each of all ~200 countries' main languages, in addition to Harvard-excellence psychiatry (as taught in Medical Schools), especially re language and psychotherapy, or talk therapy?
As just one example where I've observed some need for this: What if people lash out as adults, wrongly and harmfully and unjustly, because they've been abused as children for example? And how to help all people who have been victims, and especially if they begin to perpetrate harm later, for example, (and in Quaker Meetings, for example, or other Friends' groups, and universities too!)?
The big project I'm developing (CC-4 MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School) seeks to help with this online (in all ~200 countries' main languages, and even eventually with avatar bots), but is in need of resources as well.

Dear non-theist Friends, NtFs, atheist Quakers, agnostic Seekers of the Light / Truth, skeptical friends, Nontheist Friends' Network (in the British Isles),As a follow up, online post-Lacanian psychoanalysis, as well as especially psychiatry, would include, of course, online child and adolescent psychiatry in all ~200 countries' official languages, where psychiatry for young people is fairly old and well-established medical discipline (and developing all the time). Friends Hospital in Philadelphia is the oldest continuously operated mental hospital in the USA - https://friendshospital.com (with phone number, if seeking a 2nd opinion, or Friendly evaluation) - since 1813, so Friends / Quakers have a very long history with, and also ethical and legal approaches to, psychiatry in a variety of ways.

Hi Catherine,

Nice again to get your emails. I found this helpful that coronaviruses "cause mild-to-moderate respiratory illnesses."

"Coronaviruses are a group of viruses that are common in both humans and animals that usually cause mild-to-moderate respiratory illnesses."

Ma,

And how can we transform the media landscape away from the fear generation that US media seems to be creating to a healthier, more reasoning, and somehow to better media generation (am thinking the Swedish newspaper dn.se or the German press, for example)? Voting the b...... out in Nov election could be a significant part of such a change! :)

Am appreciating your sensibleness in the coronavirus pandemic, Ma, and appreciating much your being my wonderful mother!

By the way, the last time Ed, who's a MD as you know, called me, he called me on the way back from work (Kaiser Permanente in Richmond, near Berkeley), possibly the Sunday before last - and even with the "Stay home except for essential needs' directive in CA - https://covid19.ca.gov/stay-home-except-for-essential-needs/ - Ed has seemed very unconcerned about the novel coronavirus in CA. Am thinking that the knowledge generation state-by-state - and our readings of this - would be very important (and am wary of cultural ignorance too in interpreting novel coronavirus effects!).

Also, many, many people in their 90s are recovering from Covid-19, and the main issue is that we don't have any data about this (in a Boston Globe article from yesterday) - which lack of data is a real deficit.

Am very glad, Ma, you're taking great precautions, nevertheless - and also because of the lack of knowledge and potential for misinterpretation (even misuse???) of so many diverse readings of novel coronavirus Covid-19 even among the medical doctors, and others (and in the Pittsburgh area), for example. And reliable data and medical knowledge is so diverse that it's not a simple process for all of us to analyze it for ourselves. Am continuing to hypothesize that it's some kind of "fire drill" - either overblown, or not so overblown (or addressing multiple complex issues in society - in all ~200 countries).

And per the German press, it looks like there is at least one drug that is effective already, Remdesivir -
https://www.fr.de/multimedia/brasilien-ort28441/corona-pandemie-studie-macht-hoffnung-medikament-remdesivir-zeigt-wirkung-covid-19-zr-13668822.html - but that it has side effects (even fatal ones) - https://translate.google.com/ ... steps in the right direction, I'd say ... as the US sorts out its epidemics in 100 different cities during this pandemic!

Stay safer, Ma! Thinking about you!

Much love, Scott

Hi Ma,

Just got a message from Elliott after what seems like years:

Hi Scott. I'm well. I've been laid off since March 9. Fortunately I always keep a cushion. I've been busy with house projects. Been missing tennis since the local cities have closed tennis courts. But I did find a wall in my local park to hit against, so I can get a good work out there.

the Oakland ashram is closed, of course. Luckily there have been several live stream events from the ashram in the Catskills. So that's been great.

I hope you are staying healthy. Fortunately, the latest studies, such as the one in Santa Clara County, seem to indicate that the mortality rate is much lower than previously thought. Good news.

... and shared this with Elliott too :)

Hi Elliott, nice to hear from you, and glad you're well. House, tennis, Ashram sound good in this coronavirus pandemic time. Seems sheltering at home/ self-quarantine - then testing, vaccine development, and potentially contact-tracing can be strategies for new norms in a changed world where genetic risks are low.

Playing my Scottish Small Pipes in preparation for my 1st upcoming album I'm planning tentatively titled 'Honey in the Bag' - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/02/western-honey-bee-re-my-upcoming-honey.html. Am both giving and taking Skype Scottish small piping lessons presently as well! My student lives in SF, and has played Highland Pipes since around 2006, and I'm studying with Connor Sinclair at the National PIping Centre in Glasgow, who recently at around age 23 won the Glen Fiddich and Northern Meeting, and from whom I'm learning much. MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch is growing - writing letter to MIT president Reif soon re collaboration ; please remember that when our wiki front end and back end come together, the wikis are and will be for open wiki-teaching and learning - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects - much like editing or reading a Wikipedia article. (On with my 5th book, also Harbin-inspired, in the autumn - https://www.amazon.com/author/scottmacleodworlduniversity! ... and seeking to facilitate a realistic virtual Harbin / realistic virtual earth for STEM research and as classrooms!).

A virtual something in coronavirus pandemic time?

Thanks for your text this evening, and invitation, Koh:

Niana was talking about us all having a socially distanced walk soon when you're in town. Urine town, ha ha. Is that happening? We can talk well then! Thoughts?

Koh

Scott: Hi to your kids, Koh! What a nice invitation too! I think, however, I'd like to lower the risks to you and your kids, and moi, re visiting P-town:) at present, and continue to shelter at home / self quarantine until we learn more, and also per the state of California's directives - eg the "Stay home except for essential needs' directive in CA - https://covid19.ca.gov/stay-home-exce... ( mentioned here -  http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/202... ) and re emergent Google-Apple contact tracing projects too ... Skype or Google Meet meal together with Ants and your kids, since we can't yet go for a virtual walk together in the Golden Gate Park together in digital masks / in the back of our round-rim hippie glasses? :) how is everyone?

Stay safe, Fujinagas!

Dear Larry,

The card addressed to you which came here to Canyon 94516, is still unopened, but is visible through side slots. It says something about Wells F not being able to reach you by email, which issue I think is solved, since I gave Wells your email, for example.
Looks like the May 13 CA BPPE licensing workshops (leading to accreditation), in Sacramento, is cancelled.https://www.bppe.ca.gov/schools/application_workshops.shtml

May explore including in a draft to MIT's Rafael Reif something about monies for BPPE and WASC senior, annually.
There are these new videos however, I've just seen - " The Bureau is proud to present our new video which aims to guide prospective licensees through the application process for Approval to Operate for an Institution Non Accredited. Check it out! https://bppe.ca.gov/schools/comp_tools.shtml "

Hebridean sheep: Piping friends, Create-Alongs, and further coronavirus thoughts * * California wildflowers * * * With Novel Coronavirus Covid-19 LIFE IS WEIRD * * * How to keep dancing and creating, in this time of novel coronavirus pan-demic?

Good morning, my wonderful mother,
It was really nice to talk yesterday evening - in a slightly more open-ended way than usual. Appreciating your precautions in this novel coronavirus time, and that your new home and garden are working out, - and our co-thinking and reasoning.
If an anti-aging 'vitamin' comes along, perhaps we'll be communicating at age 220 :), if we're relatively healthy.
As I was playing my Scottish Small Pipes around 10 yesterday evening, 2 piping friends communicated with me - Bruce Maxwell, who went to Haverford, emailed, and Rees Parker texted, who's piping again. I appreciate the friendliness of Bruce's email (see below), and was glad to hear from Rees, with whom I communicate infrequently. In this time of sheltering at home due to a novel virus situation, appreciating these increased connections.
Was looking around for most trainable pets on the web yesterday - thinking in terms of the next create a pet Create-Along, and also what might work as a good pet in Scratch programming, and Lego Robotics. I found regarding pets and 'language' learning, Budgies (little parakeets), and parakeets / Macaws, - and, regarding trainability, in general, dogs, border collies, and poodles, atop some lists. I was appreciating how much many trainable pets like to be social, like to be loved even - like budgies. I too have been very social in the past, am much less social n Canyon, where I live - and now with sheltering at home and coronavirus, this solo-ness is furthered. And I'd like to begin a family too, and am seeking a life partner in these regards.
It would be good to be in some good communication here with neighbors in Canyon, as novel coronavirus develops and re quarantine ...
... And are societal processes, in learning newly about viruses and how to function (in all 200 countries, epidemiologically, and now information technologically), moving on from China, global warming, illegal sex trade ... to primarily genetic navigation - that is 'in case of emergency' - and also especially re testing of economies, and testing of law? Is fire drill - (what caused it?, if this is a plausible hypothesis, and metaphor) - fizzling out, as the US develops newly long term virus / genetic emergency plans? And what of the rich and poor people (and countries too) - how to aid the poor in a time of novel coronavirus - and with approaches to viruses too ... avatar bot electronic medical records? UBI experiments to distribute a single digital currency to all 7.5 billion people? ... Your mentioning sanitizing your credit card in these regards is interesting regarding societal processes around money in newly thinking about viruses. There are a whole bunch of social and cultural questions I have concerning issues of genetic virus scale, risk and danger re novel coronavirus and who benefits and doesn't? Has this been a 'progressive' virus - is a curious question? But I think could lead to interesting questions.
Further piping today ... are you singing at home, Ma, at all? :)
Love, Scott

From Bruce: Hi Scott,   I'm not interested in participating in your WUaS.  Please remove me from the list.  You might have heard that I moved up to Eureka a few months ago.  I like it here! There's some Celtic music scene - except in the past month since the Stay at Home order.  I have a little work to do via email with the same awning and canopy company in Hayward I've been working with for the past few years.  Also some house renovation with my nephew's rental property business.  Supposedly, I am hired to be a Census enumerator - but that's been on hold for a few weeks.   I hope you're doing well.  Keep me in mind if you ever come up this way.   Best wishes,   Bruce Maxwell

To Bruce:
Hi Bruce,
Your email came just as I was playing my Scottish Small Pipes in preparation for my 1st upcoming album I'm planning tentatively titled 'Honey in the Bag' - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/02/western-honey-bee-re-my-upcoming-honey.html. I'll remove you from the MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch emailings; please remember that when our wiki front end and back end come together, the wikis are and will be for open wiki-teaching and learning - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects - much like editing or reading a Wikipedia article. I knew you were heading north, Bruce - congratulations on your big successful move, and I'm so glad you're enjoying Eureka! (Have you ever come into communication with Heather Paxson, who went to Haverford, too, as well as to Stanford for her Ph.D. and is an Anthropology Professor at MIT now, by any chance?). Congratulations on continuing your architectural-related work during this shelter in place time with both the awning and canopy company, and your nephew's rental properties. New role as digital census enumerator? I'm glad you're doing well, Bruce, and thanks much for your email. It would be nice to visit you in Eureka sometime, perhaps on my way to a Reed College gathering. And you're welcome to stay in my front room, or similar, if you're in the Bay Area and would like a place to stay. Even if not, please come visit again in Canyon!
Best wishes, Scott

HI Ma,

How's your day going? And how are you?
Had a great 3 hour and 40 minute conversation with Peter Bothe in Germany getting some big project things done and also just talking about events of the day.
...

Just got an email from Bill Roberts too - re his helpful Covered California thinking re KP, and having done the next step of getting the Contra Costa Health Plan Care in the PerformR system on Saturday. ... Will seek to follow up with Bill, with Ms. Marie B re switching into KP again, and with Kim S at Covered CA with Ms. Maria Ramirez constituent consultant in state senator's office about all of this too.
On with big project work ... and glad to have spoken with Peter Bothe in a variety of ways just now!
What are you up to today and this evening?
Love, Scott

Hwy Ma,

5 wildflowers I saw, on a great 45+ minute walk up around the saddle near the water basin to become hot pool, hopping over the fence, and walking down into Indian valley, 2 of which I can name -

California poppy - orange
Sweet pea - a nitrogen fixer

- then there was the most profuse flower everywhere with 4 petals each
- a yellow crown flower
- a 5 petal purple fliwer,

And came close to four healthy cattle, two of which were calves, under a tree at a watering place /hole crossing the road

Reminds of a poem or two I write with cattle near Harbin

Crossed a little creek back to my side of the valley and saw a sixth flower, Scotch broom, also profuse ...

I may send photos from this email address

2 email addresses too with flower in their name :)

Musicalmacflower@gmail.com
Yogamacflower@gmail.com

What wild flowers did you see walking today?

Love, Scott

*

Ma,

Total of 7 wild flowers seen as of today ...

Just walked the large loop the other way from yesterday - thru the valley, over the fence, up to the saddle near possible rusty hot tub, and back - nearly 45 minutes and beautiful. SAW a new little yellow flower on cool day, but not taking pics yet, since flowers were kind of closed.

Did big Yoga standing poses, and balancing on 1 foot too, this morning. Having read Harvard Prof's Greg Mankiw's very human blog entry about his mother having broken her hip a time or two, am wanting to build up standing poses until 220 yo to mitigate this, and 1220 too :)

Here are some trainable pets I found while thinking about doing my next 'Create a Pet' Create-Along Scratch programming project for Thursday.

Am wondering too about Lego Robotics' pets - a little like Funky Snail's story - https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/386012815 - here at top http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/04/kalinga-ornata-found-myself-teaching.html?m=0 - but snails aren't trainable as I see this.

Harvested too my first lettuce from my garden - from a flower pot of lettuces I bought... (seeking to avoid watering the leaves due not wanting to consume very much at all the light colored mineral in the water:)

How was your day? What if anything are you doing to prevent hip damage in your 110s besides daily walking, Ma? :)

Love, Scott

With Novel Coronavirus Covid-19 - LIFE IS WEIRD

Catherine S. Vodrey2:02 PM (6 hours ago)to meDear Scott —
Thanks for your text! Here, as I'm sure it is there, LIFE IS WEIRD. I wish Henry and Lillian both were home. I get why they’re not, but my mama bear instinct wants them home. Lillian is a receptionist at a downtown Columbus law firm and she's considered essential personnel. She loves the job (moving up to paralegal at some point is likely). She graduated from Ohio Wesleyan last May. Henry works at a car dealership in Athens, about 50 minutes from Columbus, and he's considered essential too. He's only sold three cars this month; a great month for him is more like 16 or 18 cars. Ugh. We're all glad that they're still employed.
The Trib let Steve and about half the staff go last month. He was planning to leave anyway as of April 15th, as we'd both had enough of living apart for the last three-plus years. The paper lost one of its biggest advertisers (to the tune of $1 million annually) so it was a big financial shock for the paper.
I am finally figuring out working from home in week three. The first two weeks felt very choppy and disjointed. I couldn’t seem to sit at the computer for more than an hour before I felt the need to go irritate the cats or bother Steve. Guess you can good at anything with some exposure and practice, and that’s what it’s taken in this situation for me.
At this point, it looks as though my parents are staying in Florida indefinitely. They had tickets to fly home on the 16th, but they are spooked about getting on a plane and being in an airport. Steve's twin sister Silke had to fly down to North Carolina last month to visit her daughter Megan and said on the flight back to Youngstown, there were only seven passengers on her plane. So actually, I imagine planes and airports to be fairly germ-free places to be at the moment.
Our doctor friend in Pittsburgh Bill implanted a pacemaker in a patient with coronavirus last Saturday. Bill's wife Amy tells me that she makes him undress entirely in the garage, putting his scrubs in a special bag she leaves out there for him. She washes his scrubs alone without any other clothes, and she washes them twice in hot water just for good measure. After Bill undresses, he runs through the house and up the stairs in his underwear, showers and then and only then is he allowed to hug and visit with Amy and their daughters. Both daughters are home from school. Poor elizabeth was a freshman at William & Mary, which has a joint degree program with St. Andrew's in Scotland. It's now looking unlikely that she'd spend the next two years there, so that's a big disappointment.
Was reading in the New York Times earlier this week that world supply chains are likely to be significantly changed from here on out. It doesn’t make sense in a health crisis that the vast majority of our health equipment (from masks and gloves to expensive hospital equipment) is made outside of the country. An unintended positive effect may be the return to the United States of at least some manufacturing jobs.
I hope you and yours are doing well!
XOXOX,CeeVee

Hi Catherine,

Thanks for your email as well.
Am glad your kids have jobs, and sorry to hear that your husband doesn't - in this time of novel coronavirus Covid-19 worldwide. Am wondering if this coronavirus pandemic is mostly a overblown fire drill where the novel coronavirus is not much worse than the flu, or the common cold (since so many people are recovering from it), and whether a much more serious genetic event based on SARS CoV-2 in Wuhan, Hubei District in China created the internet media frenzy that is changing societal processes dramatically in all ~200 countries in a age of viruses, with new knowledge of virus informing this, - as well as lack of knowledge of viruses (and even their potential to be used in weaponized form????).  As a healthy philosophical skeptic, am also thinking inquiring in an ongoing way for myself, as I learn more. Am glad too that as a possible fire drill, or in case of emergency situation (a hypothesis) that America for example, is developing our own manufacturing again here (ventilators from GM and Ford in Michigan?) as well as developing all kinds of supply chains within the US - from masks, to gloves, to gowns, to especially antibiotics (rather than getting much of this from Chinese supply chains), and that all of this happened before a hypothetical much worse genetic event such as possibly the Spanish Flu in 1918 might point to). Here are 5 Hypothetical News' inquiries that inform some of my questioning - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/04/himalyan-monal-how-are-harbin-hot.html - from April 1, 2020 at bottom. Glad too governments and legal systems, and the internet media themselves, etc., are all getting their 'acts together.'
Am reading German newspapers online regularly and finding a very different media landscape, discourse, and lines of reasoning. Am also interested that Sweden's approach has been much more reasoned, and based on epidemiological evidence than the US, for example - and thanks to Google Translate for helping with the liberal https://www.dn.se/ newspaper, since I don't read Swedish, but also to the German press for bringing my attention to their chief epidemiologist Anders Tegnell (which article is in one of my 35 or so blog posts)!
Ongoing learning about genetics' events ahead, but am appreciative too of the Google - Apple approach emerging on smartphones to do contact-tracing (blue dots?) ... and World Univ & Sch would even like to explore avatar bot electronic medical records for all 7.5 billion people in these regards! :) Wondering how this will play out in all ~200 countries, such as in China too, and with potentially (per your Dad too) the Stanford Law China Guiding Cases Project in communication with the Beijing Supreme Court, in a time of legal reform in China.
Continuing to seek to begin a family, and from out here in Canyon 94516 part, but also on Cuttyhunk Island for 10 weeks in summer, if things work out - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/04/kalinga-ornata-found-myself-teaching.html - Stay well and be well, Catherine!
Warm regards, and more later,
Scott

Catherine S. Vodrey5:07 PM (3 hours ago)to meSo glad to hear that you’re doing well! I don’t think it’s an overblown fire drill at all. I think I’m the only non-medical person I can think of who was not surprised by the pandemic, mostly because years ago I read John Barry’s excellent “The Great Influenza” — all about the 1918 flu pandemic. Can’t recommend it highly enough, and I bet it will tone down your skepticism if you read it. Lots of love.

Sent from my iPhone

*
to CatherineSo glad to hear that you’re doing well, as well! The question for me then, skepticism unfolding, as a non-medical person too, is how much worse is this novel coronavirus pandemic than the common cold, or flu ... and not in medical terms, but in terms the internet media can share that doesn't create such a weird world - or so much fear (am thinking the German press here) - in this new genetic knowledge discourse world that has emerged in a few months.
Am also thinking that vast amounts of money are going into virology and basic genetic research as a consequence of these novel coronavirus COVID-19 "memes" (replicating cultural units) ... and overblown fire drill, or serious fire drill, or not, maybe we'll even develop a vaccine earlier than anticipated (have heard 18 months), as well as figure out anti-aging drugs (per Harvard / MIT Professor of Genetics' George Church for example!
"How soon could humans reverse the aging process with genetic engineering?"
https://youtu.be/bnCEIPQFNnk
The world is turned over without too much death from virus so far albeit it's all relative (am so sorry about all the lives lost thus far, however, due to lack of knowledge about effective responses) ... and people in all ~200 countries are improving their genetic knowledge, as nation states improve their law, science, and borders in an age of viral genetics, re a knowledge starting from a genetic event in Wuhan China possibly in late November 2019!

Want to be getting back to my actual < > virtual Harbin Hot Springs' ethnographic projects ... and in facilitating creating a realistic virtual Harbin, which will include a single realistic virtual earth for everything (am thinking Google Street View with time slider, Maps, Earth, TensorFlow AI and species and individual organisms ... and at the cellular and atomic levels) ... and for genetics' research too - How soon could humans reverse the aging process with genetic engineering?https://youtu.be/bnCEIPQFNnk - such as on the novel coronavirus genes.

Hi David,

How are you in this Coronavirus time? (And what arrangements for physical distancing have you developed in your house, if any?) It would be nice to hear how you're doing sometime. What's your thinking about strategies too? What are you doing personally? Let's email or talk soon.

Warm regards, Scott

Hi Tym, Sid, MDs in particular, and All,

I'm writing to follow up on this thread from some weeks ago, and which I began with my mother last May 2019:

Is anyone, any of you know of, working on online Lacanian psychoanalysis, in each of all ~200 countries' main languages, in addition to Harvard-excellence psychiatry, especially re language and psychotherapy, or talk therapy?

As just one example where I've observed some need for this: What if people lash out as adults, wrongly and harmfully and unjustly, because they've been abused as children for example? How to help all people who have been victims, and especially if they begin to perpetrate harm later, for example?

The big project I'm working on seeks to help with this (in all ~200 countries' main languages, and even eventually with avatar bots), but is in need of resources as well.

With very best wishes,
Scott

Tym, Sid, MDs in particular, and All,

As a further followup, I suppose it's especially here in Canyon 94516, for example, but perhaps also in bagpiping circles, possibly in circles at Harbin Hot Springs, and possibly on Cuttyhunk Island, MA as well - all somehow 'remote' places - that I see the potential benefits for individuals of online psychotherapy. But mobile technologies make it possible - in this time too of the coronavirus 'pan'-demic - to potentially make available psychiatry both in the city, and in rural remote locations - and potentially highest quality psychotherapy as well! (I realize too that Harbin Hot Springs' thinking - my actual < > virtual ethnographic field site might offer other completely different approaches to psychotherapy than may be offered in teaching universities' hospitals, in all ~200 countries, for example, - and which is interesting to learn from as well).

How best to develop approaches that could help people?

With best wishes,
Scott

HI Ma,

Here's an interesting story from Harvard Economics' Professor Greg Mankiw - who the Epples know a little, Dennis said -
http://gregmankiw.blogspot.com/2020/04/dorothy-theresa-sawchak-mankiw.html.

It's both a coronavirus as 'real' story, and a keeping healthy via walking story, I'd suggest. It's about his mother, who died recently from Covid-19 (my deepest condolences), and it's a very interesting glimpse into her life too - and a skillfully told story as well.

I'm wondering if an aging reversal drug - adding enzymes to aging genes per Harvard / MIT Prof George Church? - will emerge before I'm Greg Mankiw's mother's age - and you too.

His blog entry story, since he's based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, I could read as informing me marrying a young woman, since it's also the story of how his parents met in Ukrainian church functions. (I'm wondering if a friend has some Scottish background, for example). And he also interestingly mentions the harbinger word, as well as the MASH TV show (which touches on the craziness of the 1960s humorously, although it was about the Korean war in the early '50s), - both aspects of my research, in a different social science than economics, namely anthropology. Go figure :)

Heading out for a walk now :) Hope you had a good day.

Love, Scott

PS
Deepest condolences to Harvard Professor Greg Mankiw on the death of his mother!

*
Did you have a good walk today, Ma?

Just came back from a nice one. Saw Ellin Barrett and a couple I like, he with very long hair - he reminds me of Legolas from Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" some times - and quite together with a sense of good hippy ethics, chatting on the road, physically distant. All are mature and long time Canyon folks. Big smiles and greetings all around - almost a first for big smiles for me here - but I also didn't stay to chat, maybe re inner sense social distancing (and not only coronavirus 'pan'-demic), and instead headed on, and at the bottom on the road, there were a bunch of 20 or 30-something  y.o. Canyonites around a fire, hanging out. not so physically distant (and maybe with an inferred Canyon ethic I'm much more wary of - and over heard the words in a loud story of 'not killing but rape' - which loud social narrative further confirmed my Friendly concerns about aspects of the culture of Canyon. (Around the fire on the beach is a Cuttyhunk thing too - but Cuttyhunk's ethos is better or good in comparison, in my experience).

...

Current coronavirus hypothesizing -
- SARS CoV-2 in China with dramatic mortality ?
- Coronavirus COVID-19 in rest of world and China, with 90 year olds at risk, with parallels to the flu?
- reversing global warming?,
- addressing illegal global sex trade? - a 'pan'-demic
- as fire drill, test, in case of emergency, dress rehearsal?

And what happens if coronavirus were to come to Canyon, to people who weren't physically distant? ? ?

Time to begin adding a little further Yoga asana into my day re staying healthy. Am enjoying my Yoga sitting every morning first thing in ongoing way. ...  My most recent Scratch program, "Funky Snail's story,"was even teaching meditation funnily :)

Piping and dinner ahead ... hoping you have a great day tomorrow :)

Scott

Ma,

But my coronavirus 'pan'-demic healthy scepticism also continues re: 1 testing, 2 vaccine 3 re kids not getting it at all 4 Sweden's thinking, and measured outcomes, as well as Denmark's and Norway's ... 5 KP physician Ed Smyth's lack of concern ... 6 the hype of the media selling news ... 'fire drill'?

Rapid response, testing, & tracking, have been so lacking - and why? ....  per Harvard trained geneticist Spencer Wells' echoing of Singaporean thinking, as he heads up on a 'track' to visit mountain orangutan primatologist Birutė Galdikas - https://www.technologyreview.com/2020/03/12/905346/singapore-is-the-model-for-how-to-handle-the-coronavirus/ - in that part of the world, and which was posted on Twitter from the MIT Tech Review which I appreciate ...

Dear Ma,

How are you? Am hoping we elect a change in November, re current 'climate' in media in US. J.B. & E.W.? Appreciating E.W. as possible VP.

Keep thinking philosophy-wise regarding religion too? Appreciating George A.'s thinking in a variety of ways in this email. Appreciating, for example - https://www.desiderata.com/desiderata.html for its psychology as well (re psychoanalysis and psychiatry as well). The idea of the real, and the significance of the symbolic - re my writing here even.

Philosophical skepticism is good: healthy skepticism of Greg Mankiw's remembrance too? Covid-19 could refer here - http://gregmankiw.blogspot.com/2020/04/dorothy-theresa-sawchak-mankiw.html - to something else here besides the genetics of a virus in his mother's case at age ~91. ??? Economic and political thinking may be shaping many such coronavirus memes (ideas) too, like his. Appreciating too though his story telling here - esp if it could inform my finding a mate. How to find and connect with a great life partner - much nurturing of this thinking may be beneficial. (The idea of the real, and the significance of the symbolic - re my writing here even).

Aging reversal is a potential ahead which gives me some hope (although I am realistic that we aren't there yet, and successful research may take decades), for you, and I (and Sandy, and Ann and Cathy) ...

And further regarding Greg Mankiw's blog entry too, .... focus on storytelling, which he touches on re story telling. ... and his mentioning his grandparents, I think, seeking for his mother to marry an older man, re maturity potentially ... Appreciating the Harvard Professors' network here, and even regarding Dick (Robb MD), and George Church, for example, all together here.

Psychiatry for US president could have merit (long ago even) .... and we'll see what the people think in November. If E.W. becomes VP, one gets much of Harvard's thinking, as well as Harvard Law School networks in ~13-18 contested electoral college states ... which could help them increase their chances significantly of getting elected.

Have a good day, Ma! Am not clear - if with a life partner - when to live out here and when in Massachusetts and elsewhere, but will cross that bridge if we come to it. (Was whistle-blowing a bit yesterday re Canyon in these regards in my email to you, since those 20-30 yo Canyon folks weren't sheltering at home during this coronavirus 'pan'-demic; There might be a Yogic or Quaker teaching opportunity here, but I hope the state of CA and psychiatry and cultural processes will change things for the better). On with a little Angela & Victor inspired Yoga, and philosophical thinking (Western, and Eastern, analytic, linguistic, mind-oriented, as well as a kind of meditation-philosophy re inner releasing action attuning) and f/Friendliness, and hopefully, too, my big project will help innumerable people - affecting a kind of ecology here.

Am welcoming your thinking about connecting further with a life partner, Ma! :)

Hoping you have a great day!

Love, Scott

Ma,

I hope you're having a good day. How are you?

Folks in Canyon aren't 'sheltering at home' that much at all in the middle of this 'national emergency' and 'California state emergency' - and am not sure why ... what if folks contract the coronavirus out of of Canyon, and bring it back here? Canyon may already be a little 'pan'- re the Covid-19 pandemic that's in full swing in this country, and in so many countries in the world!

So, again, on with a little Angela & Victor inspired Yoga, and philosophical thinking (Western, and Eastern, analytic, linguistic, mind-oriented, as well as a kind of meditation-philosophy re inner releasing action attuning) and f/Friendliness, and hopefully, too, my big project will help innumerable people - affecting a kind of ecology here. ... re ethics and potentially wisdom, and goodness ... and seeking a life partner :)

Philosophical thinking which is 'mind'-oriented (IN WESTERN PHILOSOPHICAL SENSES) as well as CONSCIOUSNESS-oriented ... and a kind of MIT thinking as well, I'll call this.

Am hoping you get out for a nice walk soon, Ma! Am heading out walking at some point too. Blogged about meditation and re programming Funky Snail's Story with robotics in these regards here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/04/kalinga-ornata-found-myself-teaching.html - and much more, including a focus on psychiatry / psychoanalysis, - as well as creatively re 'realistic artificial humans' in these regards.

Sending love, Scott

Hi Scott,

Isn’t this all such a challenge?  To adapt to the sheltering at home is, I should guess, particularly difficult for gregarious young people  who are always out and about.  As someone said, “I sure wouldn’t want to be a senior in high school or a college senior at this time.  The former must wonder about their fall plans at all and the latter about getting a job.  We’re going to need a lot of very thoughtful people to help rebuild this world of ours.  I’m following Chris Cuomo and his brother Andrew Cuomo, the Governor of New York as they discuss these issues on CNN.

The UU church service today was very thoughtful.  Lots of references to people struggling with adversity and figuring out some of the positive things that might come out of this.  I did hear that fracking may be a lost cause - companies have ceased fracking operations aa least at the moment.  That would be wonderful.  Western PA has been an active fracking area.  Also, I read that there is less pollution in the air which is a small benefit of the shutdown.

Trying to get through Beloved by Toni Morrison.  I may just drop it and move on to something else.

So glad you are “sheltering” and being careful in every way until this pandemic resolves.

Love, Ma

*
Thanks so much, Ma!

(It's Easter in Greece today! and I just wished my friend Petros, there, Happy Easter - they celebrate it in very beautiful ways, from what I've seen). Glad you enjoyed and found edifying the UU service today, and re narratives in dealing with adversity!

Yes - interesting time, it recently dawned on me in new ways: if I think about all the remarkable innovation occurring in the digital sphere (and even since the 1950s!!!) ... and re what I see on Twitter, for example, (and per my course and what I teach about in my course on the "Network Society and Information Technology, and the Global University") ... http://worlduniversityandschool.org/InfoTechNetworkSocGlobalUniv.html
... and leave aside the mindset somehow generated by coronavirus pan-demic and as I see it our unwell pan-president.

Glad you're “sheltering” too, Ma, and hope you're being careful in every way until this pandemic resolves.

With seek to keep things simple too! Thank you!

Sending love, Scott

to me

Thank you Scott. We are celebrating Easter this year in a coronavirus mode. Regarding tomorrow would it be possible to move our call one or two hours later as I will be seeing some friends at ca. 8am PDT and our gathering might be extended as we have not seen each other for quite some time.
Alternatively we could move it to Tuesday or next week, whichever suits you best.
Thank you very much and Καλό Πάσχα.
Best,
PK

Petros,

Easter in Corona mode in Greece online sounds new, and interesting, - and Greece is 'old!' :) Καλό Πάσχα.

Let's hold off on meeting in a Livestream until WUaS gets recording and live-streaming to the World Univ & Sch LIvestream channel - https://www.youtube.com/user/WorldUni... - on a Monday at 10 am PT in the next couple of weeks.

Warm greetings to your mother and father. It was very nice to meet them in 2004, I think!

Best, Scott
