I wanna walk around at home in a single realistic virtual earth in a digital mask, and visit these works of art, and museums and libraries 'in situ' - in place - (and get the benefits even of movement - walking - as well as seeing and learning and experiencing this great art, for example:).

Dear Roland, Arlindo, Eli, Markus, and Paul, (and MIguel - who also is interested in questions of justice - and All CodeX presenters from the previous week),

Thanks so much for Stanford Law CodeX on Thursday, and your excellent presentations - https://law.stanford.edu/2020/04/29/codex-meeting-april-30th-2020/. I've included my questions below. In developing CC-4 MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School, and since MIT has neither a Law School (nor a Medical School), and thus no Law or Medicine CC-4 licensed OpenCourseWare, WUaS seeks to emerge if possible from Stanford Law, (and Stanford Medicine), - and potentially in all ~200 countries' official / main languages for major online universities, as well as even law courses, if helpful, in all 7,117 known living languages. Thus, I ask the following in these World Univ & Sch contexts, and regarding growing these CodeX legal networks:

1"Thank you, Arlindo! As a merchant banker, are you seeing anything on the horizon about Universal Basic Income experiments, and especially to distribute a single worldwide cryptocurrency (backed by some number of central banks in all ~200 countries) as (where “Nexilis is one of Brazil's first broad-spectrum legal asset firms, integrating technology, finance …”) ?

sgkmacleod@worlduniversityandschool.org is my email address. And where MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch is planning online universities in each of ~200 countries’ official / main languages, and wiki schools in all 7,117 known living languages (and then build from there to code for all 7.5 billion people re Universal Basic Income experiments - and to distribute a single cryptocurrency). Looking forward to communication further, Arlindo!

WUaS is exploring planning for coding for people / students in all ~200 countries, with our WUaS Law Schools too, speakers in all 7,117 known living languages - and then for all 7.5 billion people each a Wikidata Q-item number (or related PIN# number), to explore distributing a single cryptocurrency backed by some numbers of of ~200 countries' central banks, and distributed via Universal Basic Income experiments - to alleviate poverty. This would be something that would come after the Euro in 19 out of 28 nation states, and after the US dollar, a de facto international currency (see UBI here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/UBI).
2Eili, - Great! In building access-to-justice software and products for the private bar, are you exploring any pro bono law students’ learning opportunities? And in what ways, hypothetically, could such interns apprentice with licensed attorneys? Thank you, Eli!
Am curious about developing a WUaS online Law School in Florida, and potentially in all 50 US states, and not only in all ~200 countries' official languages (See this Oregon example ... https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/09/saffron-how-to-begin-iran-law-school-at.html  and https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/09/rocky-mountain-national-park-re-online.html) - Eli Mattern: Twitter: @SarahEliMattern
3Markus & Paul - Fantastic! In what ways might you plan for all 7.5 billion people - and possibly brainstorming-wise regarding Universal Basic Income experiments to distribute a single cryptocurrency for most of all, again, 7.5 billion people - “to help people take back control of their data, by building tools for consumers and developers to create new value from that data?
" (Thank you - will email you).
Here are some case examples for your thinking - aAm curious to learn further how you conceive, for example, of electronic medical health records in all ~200 countries, as an example for "people taking back control of their data" - eg re #AvatarBotElectronicMedicalRecords ... https://twitter.com/hashtag/AvatarBotElectronicMedicalRecords?src=hashtag_click ... bAlso with your travel data thinking, re "people taking back control of their data" - what about people, hypothetically, traveling virtually in a single realistic virtual earth - eg traveling through Google Street View with time slider, Maps, Earth, with TensorFlow, Translate and with avatar bots - and sheer amount of data? - in the future? - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForHiking?src=hashtag_click - cAnd combine personal data with data centering around a single digital currency with block chain ledger, and add travel data all within a realistic virtual earth?
Markus Lampinen https://twitter.com/mmlampinen
Looking forward to learning your thoughts about this, and to staying in touch - and potentially via Stanford Law CodeX ... and emergent online law schools, exploratorily. Thank you again for your edifying presentations.
Thank you all so much, Scott

PSAnd in a related vein, in the middle of this coronavirus pandemic, who would own the following data (and with regard too to #AvatarBotElectronicMedicalRecords in some of ~200 countries' official languages, I wonder; are EU electronic medical records region-wide between any of all 28 EU countries?)

Passion flower & Sword-billed hummingbird adaptation: Edd Wilder-James "Plain language views on technology, life, and other interesting thoughts as they occur" email and very first newsletter (from a Googler!) * * * 1) WUaS has been in Google for Education

Edd,
https://twitter.com/edd
Thanks for your "Plain language views on technology, life, and other interesting thoughts as they occur" email and very first newsletter. It's a treat to read.
And hearty congratulations on your nearly 3 years' anniversary at Google! Regarding your speaking engagements prior to this, I found edifying your 2017 lesson:

https://youtu.be/MhN2rm0Wb2c

"And for the next act...

Assuming, indulgently, it won't take me three years to write again, what should we discuss? Why on earth did you want to hear from me, kind reader? We could take this anywhere, from matters technical and computery, to the rambunctious ginger cats that share our lives, the amazing wines that are grown near our home in the Russian River valley (and stocked liberally in our closets), or my growing obsession with fountain pens. And let me know what is happening for you? Perhaps we can all share and learn and laugh!"
Having communicated with Peter Norvig, Denny Vrandečić, John Hennessy, and other Googlers about the following projects, I'd love to reply to your first newsletter's questions and explore open source CC-4 MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School with you.

First, WUaS has been in Google for Education since 2015 (and, indeed, this email is in Google for Education), and WUaS seeks to develop ~200 online universities offering online CC-4 OCW-centric Bachelor, Ph.D., Law, M.D. and I.B. high school degrees in each of all ~200 countries' official and main languages, building out of CC-4 MIT OCW in its 4 languages, and Wikidata / Wikibase in Wikipedia's ~300 languages. (World Univ & Sch donated WUaS for co-development to Wikidata in 2015, and received the WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki in 2017 as a consequence, but they aren't yet interoperable). And World University and School also seeks to build wiki schools for open teaching and learning in all 7,117 known living languages in The Ethnologue (and also potentially in 8,506 entries in languages in Glottolog, and similarly with the ISO 639). Matters computery ahead:
In planning for speakers of all 7,117 known living languages - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Languages (in these languages as wiki schools) - and in planning to matriculate our 2nd class of undergraduate students this autumn as we begin the licensing process with the state of CA's BPPE for Bachelor and Ph.D. degrees in English, and then, concurrently, accreditation probably with WASC, - and then for matriculating students in all ~200 countries' official languages - World Univ & Sch seeks to code for all 7.5 billion people on the planet, as potential wiki teachers and learners - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University. And in doing so, WUaS is seeking too, for all 7.5 billion people on planet, to plan for the following 5 items
i) wiki Universitians in 7,111 known living languages, and matriculated students in all ~200 countries,

ii) Avatar Bot Electronic Medical Records, with genetic therapies, and for molecular tele-robotic surgery (and re Google / Stanford / Duke University's Project Baseline), for ex.,
iii) Universal Basic Income (UBI) experiments (and to alleviate poverty), and to DISTRIBUTE a single crypto-currency backed by some number of ~200 countries' central banks (perhaps with Stanford graduates' 'Mine Pi' digital currency)

iv) a single family tree for genealogy research as in WikiTree (https://www.wikitree.com), and for aggregating DNA samples too

v) Computer glasses for all 7.5 billion people on the planet- https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/12/wild-pomegranate-burchellia-bubalina.html (with much about WUaS in the 'global university' label in my blog).

Second, having recently written MIT President Rafael Reif - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2020/04/dear-mit-president-rafael-reif-possible.html - about exploring MIT-WUaS collaboration ideas, and as a consequence spoken for 30 minutes yesterday with MIT's head in the Office of Digital Learning, Sanjay Sarma,, WUaS is seeking innovative ways to transpose CC-4 MIT OCW into something like the MITx on the edX platform - but on the Google Platform. WUaS seeks to build from MIT OCW's 4 languages to all ~200 countries' official languages (possibly ~100 languages), and, even create excellent and engaging CC-4 OpenCourseWare, if helpful and needed, in all 7,117 languages. CC-4 licensing allows WUaS, for ex., to 1) share 2) adapt, but 3) non-commercially CC-4 MIT OCW, per MIT's Cecilia d'Oliveira, executive director of OCW for many years. WUaS adds these licensing clarifications - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ - when we reach out about MIT OCW, and which allows us to use the MIT name. WUaS sees MIT OCW as gold mine, and its CC-4 licensing as competitive, because while the WUaS degrees will be free to students since WUaS can't ask for tuition or payment, yet we can and will seek reimbursement from departments of education in all ~200 countries (and perhaps with regard to the currency mechanism in our platform for distributing Universal Basic Income experiments).

Third, another Google-centric project WUaS seeks to facilitate is a realistic virtual earth for everything:
Think Google Streetview with time slider, Maps, Earth, TensorFlow, Translate at the cellular & atomic levels, and with species and individuals, and with Minecraft for actual-virtual Lego robotics / Second LIfe for group buildability, and end user build-able avatar bots too, but realistic ones, not cartoonesque. This would involve building, for example, one realistic virtual earth with individual organisms' genetics for aging reversal research - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForLongevity?src=hashtag_click and https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForCRISPR?src=hashtag_click (see, too: https://twitter.com/HarbinBook/status/1182013815308705792?s=20) with, for example, experimental animals, in something conceptually like Google Poly (which is a library of virtual objects), for clinical trials (https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Clinical_Trials_at_WUaS_(for_all_languages)), and for actual-virtual, physical-digital tele-robotic surgery for the proposed mission to Mars in the 2030s, as we map and model for further research the trillions upon trillions of stars in a single realistic virtual universe/galaxies at the atomic level. The millions' dollars grand challenge idea is to build this, eg see Marc Andreessen's article here -
1 #RealisticVirtualEarth - it's time to build this - for EVERYTHING #ActualVirtual #PhysicalDigital Think Google Street View with TIME SLIDER, Maps, Earth, TensorFlow, Translate etc https://a16z.com/2020/04/18/its-time-to-build/ -https://economicstrategygroup.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Maintaining-the-Strength-of-American-Capialism-Can-Innovation-Policy-Restore-Inclusive-Prosperity-in-America.pdf MIT: https://technologyreview.com/2020/04/25/1000563/covid-19-has-killed-the-myth-of-silicon-valley-innovation/
@WorldUnivAndSch ~
1 #RealisticVirtualEarth - it's time to build this - for EVERYTHING #ActualVirtual #PhysicalDigital Think Google Street View with TIME SLIDER, Maps, Earth, TensorFlow, Translate etc https://t.co/zvKSQ892tx -https://t.co/YWVsopy5oP MIT: https://t.co/wNpX9TlqcS @WorldUnivAndSch ~— Scott_MacLeod_WUaS (@scottmacleod) April 25, 2020

https://twitter.com/scottmacleod/status/1254069035206979585?s=20 )In many ways one could see this single realistic virtual earth/universe/galaxies as vast data set real estate in unparalleled ways, which, eureka, is 'minable' or buildable in infinite ways, and potential for trillions + of dollars. Please see the related #RealisticVirtualEarth hashtags on Twitter. How best to develop single realistic virtual earth / universe / galaxies further as a millions' dollars grand challenge idea? And how might we best communicate further about this?

Fourth, and in thinking in terms of Google Street View with TIME SLIDER for creating a single realistic virtual earth at the cellular and atomic levels with AI / machine learning, and for brain research too, I'm also thinking in terms of creating a realistic virtual Harbin Hot Springs (where actual Harbin is quite close to Santa Rosa) for actual-virtual ethnographic comparison, and both for actual <> virtual, physical <> digital, matter < > computery multimedia innovations and even with a film-to-3D application. In their co-constitutionality there's so much remarkable creative potential for science, STEM and the social sciences, for example. You can visit ~ http://tinyurl.com/p62rpcg ~ https://twitter.com/HarbinBook ~ http://bit.ly/HarbinBookhttp://www.scottmacleod.com/ActualVirtualHarbinBook.html - and for Ethno-Wiki-Virtual-World-Graphy https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy as research - http://www.scottmacleod.com/research-group.html .

Fifth, how best build our new WUaS web site out of Google Sites and in planning for all ~200 countries' official languages, based on - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ - and for matriculating registering students, eventually in all ~200 countries' official language - and with a good course platform (like MITx / edX)?
So, World Univ & Sch is very open course, very Google-centric, as well as MIT OCW-centric, and with enormous very large company potential too (since if possible, WUaS Corporation - would seek, under the wing of Alphabet / Google, to become listed on the emergent Silicon Valley long term stock exchange - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2020/04/wuas-corporation-business-plan-april.html and https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2020/04/15-planned-wuas-revenue-streams-both.html).
A big play, with many acts, and many plays may emerge in the single realistic virtual earth for everything. And there's not really a last act due to the TIME SLIDER aspect of Google Street View into the future :) Regarding your "what should we discuss? Why on earth did you want to hear from me, kind reader?" I'd love to hear about creative computing thinking in exploring developing all of this.
Sincerely, Scott - Founder, President, Professor - MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School, which is like Wikipedia in ~300 languages, with MIT OCW in 4 languages, and planning major online universities in all ~200 countries' official / main languages, with wiki schools for open teaching and learning in all 7,117 known living languages. - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Languages
- WUaS is planning this realistic virtual universe / earth as STEM field sites, and as classrooms- https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/04/galaxy-thank-you-for-your-extraordinary.html -

It's been three years, but here's the first newsletter from Edd

May 2nd, 2020. A letter from the future. While history is being endured, I thought I might in actual fact write the first edition of my newsletter. To those of you who wonderfully and kindly signed up to hear from me three years ago, I hope that, if this is a surprise, it is a welcome one. I appreciate the gesture of faith! When you put up a sign-up form for a newsletter with no other direction, you have to assume that you are free to write about whatever you wish. So, that's what I'll do.What I'm doing these daysAround the time I started the newsletter, I was about to move to a new job, and for the best part of three years, that's what I've been doing. For the first time in my life I am working at a Very Big Company, and so far, so good.I feel very lucky to have landed an unusual and challenging job at Google, working in the open source programs office. My work is to help the company's key open source projects succeed.Corporate sponsored open source is quite a different beast to the individually-motivated version we've had for the previous 15 or so years. Perhaps the most obvious difference is that the contributors are paid to contribute, rather than being driven by individual curiosity or altruism. So, we find that all the non-engineering parts need attention: how do you architect collaboration, how do you match up the project to your business goals, and so on.It's a fun challenge, and I can't deny I still get a kick out of working for Google, a company that has defined most of our experience of the web for a long time.Inevitably, this means my public persona has declined -- where I used to write, speak and tweet a lot, much of my attention is now focused inside the company. Being an individual public voice and working for a large company are more or less irreconcilable, and I've come to be OK with that. What about the virus?Every video call seems to start with "how are you?", and in recent days my answer is "about what you'd expect". That means we're lucky out here in Northern California. The outbreak is under control and mostly folks are responsible and doing the right things. With mortal peril at bay, the enemies are ennui, loneliness, and periodic bouts of horror. So, about what you'd expect. If your experience through this is worse, you have my sympathy. One of the most immediately stark consequences close to home has been the impossibility of industry conferences. Since 2001 I have been involved in organizing events, and most recently teamed up with O'Reilly Media to launch the first TensorFlow World in fall 2019. The virus quickly took in-person events off the table, and most tragically O'Reilly Media made the decision to get out of the conferences business, after 20+ years. Many friends lost their jobs, including those to whom I owe a great deal for my career being what it is. I know these folks are all smart and resilient, and in some ways I'm grateful it happened to them early, rather than a slow asphyxiation. It wasn't the way it should have ended, without us being able to celebrate and pay our respects to a great run. But it was at least an unambiguous signal. The first of many things that won't ever be the same again. And for the next act...Assuming, indulgently, it won't take me three years to write again, what should we discuss? Why on earth did you want to hear from me, kind reader? We could take this anywhere, from matters technical and computery, to the rambunctious ginger cats that share our lives, the amazing wines that are grown near our home in the Russian River valley (and stocked liberally in our closets), or my growing obsession with fountain pens. And let me know what is happening for you? Perhaps we can all share and learn and laugh!Cordially from Santa Rosa, Calif.,Edd's signature

Dear Mohamed, Nidahas Vidyalala, (Larry and Partha),

Following up on our email correspondence ...  https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/04/east-india-rosebay-expression-of.html ...

Thank you for your 3rd email, Mohamed. Brainstorming-wise, it's with, for example, the Sinhala language - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Sinhala_language (as well as Tamil and Hindi, and specific to Sri Lanka English-language courses) - for MIT OCW-centric course translation into something like MITx / edX where I could see us working together further. And WUaS is also seeking high achieving students in Sri Lanka who would study for these licensing and accrediting degrees: Bachelor (4 years), PhD (5 years?), Law (3 years?), MD (7 years) IB high school (4 years) - as an online culture. Building this friendly online flourishing culture too would be vital to students' success (see this HarvardX JuryX edX course in these regards - https://www.edx.org/course/juryx-deliberations-social-change-harvardx-hls3x#.VQ218TTF__X and https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2015/03/volcano-rabbit-3-new-law-schools-at.html); it's as if Sri Lankan students would come to the US and study, in English, for these degrees at MIT, or at Stanford, on the ground, but instead study for MIT OCW-centric degrees in Sinhala from home in Sri Lanka online at WUaS. In the process WUaS seeks to create a lot of professors and faculty, and staff - potentially Sri Lankan - in the Sinhala, Tamil, Hindi and English languages. Also, Nidahas Vidyalala's - Freedom College's base in Sri Lanka, with a Sri Lankan nation state domain name - nidahasvidyalaya.edu.lk - could facilitate a Sinhala language law school at WUaS ... the planned Sri Lanka Law School at WUaS (see below for related examples) in Sinhala and other Sri Lankan languages in which the legal system is in, and also facilitate licensing and accreditation, eg for the teaching of law. These are some of the ways I could us exploring working together.  Looking forward to staying in touch. And please call me Scott (and my last name is spelled with an 'a' - MacLeod). I'm including both a friend from growing up on the east coast of the US, Partha Mazumdar, who works in Sri Lanka from time to time, and Larry Viehland, who's involved with MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch.
Best wishes, Scott MacLeod

Mark, (and Ma),

Good to hear from you as well. My mother sent in the Ancestry.com DNA kit the other day, which I gave her over Xmas. I think she could be more proactive, and focused, than I with regard to scanning, adding resources (and possibly with less concerns) etc., so perhaps she and I together will develop online Ancestry, and WikiTree, conversations (which, between these two platforms in itself, is another conversation - and as I start to write about such new narrative discoveries on my main family history web pages - anew:), - conversations are the best - after she gets her family history DNA results back. Could be fun and illuminating. Appreciating what I'm learning from you, and our conversation especially.
Am not clear what summer travel possibilities are - given the coronavirus pandemic, and shelter-at-home directives - but the following audio interview suggests the Google / Apple contact tracing smartphone application will be available by mid-to-late May:
"Containment Scouts: Auf der Jagd nach Infizierten" (audio - at the 18 minute mark is the Google and Apple contact tracing app analyzed, in German)https://www.faz.net/podcasts/f-a-z-podcast-fuer-deutschland/f-a-z-podcast-fuer-deutschland-containment-scouts-auf-der-jagd-nach-infizierten-16749252.html
- which would make it possible for people to travel safely, with a basis in medical science now regarding information technologies, and preventing viral infection. (And with MIT OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch's plans for #AvatarBotElectronicMedicalRecords for all 7.5 billion people on planet, emerging in collaboration probably with WikiTree, conceptually, - potentially informing the Google/Apple contact tracing App - this might lead to further remarkable developments in family genealogy information technologies with much better tools).
Hoping to see you August 1 at Family Reunion in Maine ::)
All the best, Scott

to me, worlduniversityandschool

Dear Mr. Scott MacLeod,

This is an expression of interest to partner with World University and School to build a 100% tuition-free online college. We would like to share our expertise or our site to make this possible as we share similar values to your organisation. We could create sites in local languages using Moodle LMS. If you are interested in partnering with us, please do not hesitate to contact us after going through our site by creating a free account.

Dear Mr. M. Rifai,

Thank you for your email. Let's stay in touch. As a wiki, World Univ & Sch welcomes edits from CC-4 licensed educational institutions, such as Nidahas Vidyalaya - Freedom College might become, since WUaS is CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare-centric. MIT OCW's CC-4 licensing, which allows CC-4 World Univ & Sch to 1) share, 2) adapt, but 3) non-commercially MIT OCW resources (in its 4 languages) is how WUaS is working with MIT OCW, and is how Nidahas Vidyalaya - Freedom College (https://twitter.com/NVidyalaya - & WUaS just followed you) could work with CC-4 World Univ & Sch, regarding your question of partnering.

WUaS seeks to develop major online universities in all ~200 countries' official, and main, languages offering free-to-students' MIT OCW-centric degrees (because of the CC-4 non-commercial attribute), and in Sri Lanka especially at Sri Lanka World University and School - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Sri_Lanka - and in the Sinhala language - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Sinhala_language in Sinhala, in Tamil - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Tamil_language (in Tamil itself) - and in Hindi, in addition to English +. If you would like to attend the open WUaS Monthly Business Meeting on the 3rd Saturdays of the month at 9am Pacific Time (California), you'd get a sense of what our next steps are.

I'll add this email too to the WUaS open Monthly Business Meeting emailings, and here are recent Minutes - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/04/pacific-reef-heron-minutes-for-41820.html - and with Agenda & News' links at bottom, for your perusal.

World Univ & Sch is also meeting with the MIT Office of Digital Learning this Friday, May 1st, and to talk further about WUaS-MIT collaboration ideas, partly regarding WUaS seeking to matriculate 500-2000 undergraduate students online this autumn, possibly in something like MIT OCW courses into MITx courses on the edX platforms. Would you be interested in exploring locating and finding 100-200 high achieving, English-speaking Sri Lankan undergraduate students who would be potentially interested in a 4 year free-to-students' online MIT-centric Bachelor's degree, studying from home?

With very best wishes, Scott

Cow & calf

Ma,

Came across this cow & calf in photo at dusk on my walk today, just before a very nice 3-way lookout on a saddle ... nice to see (and the rusty basin is to their left up a hill). After a long uphill walk on nice ecenibg, turned around here. What is cow consciousness, I've been asking myself.

They're aware, and am not sure how much they remember, and herd connection seems to be part of their 'thereness' - as consciousness. Their cattle consciousness is different from bat consciousness, and dog consciousness for ex. Not clear how a scientist would characterize their consciousness (how in their brains bodymind what we could call cobsciousness finds form) ...or if Cows could talk, how they would characterize it from the 'inside.' (Or how I'd characterize this ...) ... so am not sure how to bring the 3rd and 1st person or bodymind (re cows) accounts together, but I'd suggest cow consciousness has parallels with human consciousness.

Their awareness as consciousness is in their vision & other senses - and somehow in cow cognition - but living in fields, and eating grass, and with no language, their consciousness seems staid ... and also not language-centric. What is cow consciousness further, I wonder ... and as a way to think about human consciousness ?

:) And how to explore too connecting with Z? :)

Love, Scott

*What a lovely image at dusk.

I think I’m seeing more during this pandemic; the little things.  The details.

Have a good day.

Thanks, Ma, - albeit a little difficult to see given low light levels ... so glad you're seeing things anew, and more, in this pandemic ... and details ... So, further, in the asking about cattle awareness or consciousness ...

Am asking what is "cattle consciousness" ... that is, what is it like to be a cattle / cow? Perhaps this means, per your email, what is it like to see like a cattle (singular) and re the details that a cattle might see with awareness and consciousness - both objectively and subjectively (which like the impossibility, at this time, of reconciling the 1st and 3rd person accounts linguistically for humans - or 1st and 3rd bodymind in the case of a cattle, male or female) ... or bringing together a scientific view of a cattle's consciousness with a 'personal' or better 'cattle-centric' account what they are aware of ... (In writing this, am observing newly some linguistic challenges too in exploring these questions philosophically in words :)

Consciousness, philosophically - western, is a mystery ... and re Yoga it's about a kind of oneness with the Seer, big S ... a very different account and contextualizing of ideas and experiences :)

'Consciousness easy and hard problems' (see below, and re Chalmers) - and "What is it like to be a bat?" essay inform some of these questions ... but it's fascinating per your observation that we're seeing new details during this pandemic ... and how would this work regarding becoming conscious in new ways?

Love, Scott
'consciousness easy and hard problems'

Hard problem of consciousness
"The hard problem of consciousness is the problem of explaining why and how sentient organisms have qualia [note 1] or phenomenal experiences—how and why it is that some internal states are subjective, felt states, such as heat or pain, rather than merely nonsubjective, unfelt states, as in a thermostat or a toaster.[2]"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_problem_of_consciousness

Easy problem of consciousness
" "easy problems" of explaining the ability to discriminate, integrate information, report mental states, focus attention, and so forth.[4] Easy problems are (relatively) easy because all that is required for their solution is to specify a mechanism that can perform the function.[4]"

Ma,

A new image idea came to me re Scottish small piping

It's the otherness of Scottish kilt and attire that can compliment this vision of cultural alien of spaceship bagpiper playing beautiful bagpipe as (inscrutable) computer code that I'd like to highlight as vision with video even in my upcoming 'Honey in the Bag' Scottish Small Pipes' album. (Indians. India. Hippies - at Harbin Hot Springs esp - can all get very beautifully to this other cultural liminal luminaries' space, in visionary clothes too, - and with music). I won't suggest that spaceship bagpipe computer small piping is anything like shooting a ray gun for tele-transportation  "Beam me up, Scotty" from Star Trek. ... but this Scottish alien envisioning could contribute to a vision of freedom for Scotland as well, Ma! ;)

Angela Farmer also explores vision. She's very visionary as a Yogini and artistic (as are most peoples in this ethnic dress or clothes, and music ... culturally and identity-wise as well ... People like Angela are able to see this in others in ways that other people don't, in my experience, and she's able too to elicit this further interestingly :) ... but with this spaceship bagpiping otherness envisioning ... am curious how it will inform my daily playing toward being able to transform people listening to another space ('flow' experiences yes ) ... but also with a kind of well played computer code ray gun from tele-transportation L) ... in a science fiction vein, yes ... but it's learning further how to small pipe in these regards to elicit this further as I teleport from spaceship to earth in kilt, perhaps on porch in Canyon, with hills in background ... to play wonderfully all the tunes I'm planning for "Honey in the Bag" ...

And you, Ma, and further seeing details? Consciousness-wise as well? :))

Beautiful, and thanks for the learning opportunity too!

I think we stopped at Dark Hollow Woods Park in late December, didn't we, Ma? Could you walk there (safely and along a nice way) from Longwood, by any chance?
Here it is in Google Maps -https://www.google.com/maps/place/Dark+Hollow+Woods+Park,+Verona,+PA+15147/@40.5196462,-79.817768,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x6a62f1dbfe76a896!8m2!3d40.5196462!4d-79.817768 - with photos one can add, I think, although I don't recall crossing Hwy 76 to get to Longwood afterward, so maybe we stopped at a different park! :)
It would be fun to explore adding flowers and photos to Google Maps together too. This is the idea of ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/ethno-wiki-virtual-world-graphy - and for learning and teaching esp. 157th National Academy of Sciences

Dear NAS President Marcia McNutt, Professors Maria Zuber, George Church, Victor Dzau, Alton Romig, and All,
Thank you for your extraordinary NAS, NAM, and NAE panels this past weekend. I'd like to bring to your attention a millions' dollars grand challenge idea, namely that of a single realistic virtual earth / universe for everything - for all your panel presentations' science, and further research, and in a myriad of other ways. Think Google Streetview with time slider, Maps, Earth, TensorFlow, Translate at the cellular & atomic levels, and with species and individuals, and with Minecraft / SL for group buildability, Lego robotics, and avatar bots too. This would involve building, for example, one realistic virtual earth with individual organisms' genetics for aging reversal research - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForLongevity?src=hashtag_click and https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForCRISPR?src=hashtag_click (see, too: https://twitter.com/HarbinBook/status...) with, for example, experimental animals, in something conceptually like Google Poly (which is a library of virtual objects), for clinical trials (https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Clinical_Trials_at_WUaS_(for_all_languages)), and for actual-virtual, physical-digital tele-robotic surgery for the proposed mission to Mars in the 2030s, as we map and model for further research the trillions upon trillions of stars in a single realistic virtual universe/galaxies at the atomic level. The millions' dollars grand challenge idea is to build this, eg see Marc Andreessen's article here:
@WorldUnivAndSch ~
https://twitter.com/scottmacleod/status/1254069035206979585?s=20 )In many ways one could see this single realistic virtual earth/universe/galaxies as vast data set real estate in unparalleled ways, which, eureka, is 'minable' or buildable in infinite ways, and potential for trillions + of dollars. Please see the related #RealisticVirtualEarth hashtags on Twitter. How best to develop single realistic virtual earth / universe / galaxies further as a millions' dollars grand challenge idea? And how might we best communicate further about this?
Thank you for your consideration of this millions' dollars grand challenge idea. And I send my deepest condolences in this most difficult time, Professor Tully, as well. And thank you so much for making available online, in the middle of this coronavirus pandemic, these amazing National Academy of Science, Medicine and Engineering panels. (I have broached a number of related ideas recently with MIT President Rafael Reif - https://worlduniversityandschool.blogspot.com/2020/04/dear-mit-president-rafael-reif-possible.html). Please let me know your thoughts about this.
Sincerely, Scott GK MacLeod- Founder, President, Professor - MIT OCW-centric wiki World University and School, which is like Wikipedia in ~300 languages, with MIT OCW in 4 languages, and planning major online universities in all ~200 countries' official / main languages, with wiki schools for open teaching and learning in all 7,117 known living languages. - WUaS is planning this realistic virtual universe / earth as STEM field sites, and as classrooms- https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/04/galaxy-thank-you-for-your-extraordinary.html -

Ball moss (Tillandsia recurvata): Virtual non-theistic Friendly / Atheist Quaker (Meetings) - in response to the Coronavirus pandemic? * I won't suggest that the words 'spiritual,' 'worship,' and 'religion' could be potentially misused as horrendously as t

Hi John, Rosemary, Non-theist Friends, Non-theist Friends' Network/British Humanists, and All,
Thanks for your emails. I regret that I won't be able to attend.

As a Quaker (member of the RSOF), sympathetic with non-theistic Friendliness (big F, referring to Quakerism), and atheistic/agnostic Quakerism too, I have some ongoing concerns about language NtF-wise. Returning to the words 'spiritual,' 'worship,' and 'religion' again, and newly "blasphemy," about which I have concerns (echoing the thinking of NtFriend Anita Bower in quite a few of her emails to this NtF list), I'm interested to see Richard Dawkins mentioning (William?) Penn here at the beginning -
re paranormal religion vs perinormal spirituality ..."Richard Dawkins - Spiritual Atheism"

https://youtu.be/eCX4vAsRo90
- and who seems EVEN to validate the word spirituality for himself, and his readers and listeners in terms of 'perinormal' ('pre-pathological'???) spiritual atheism.
And regarding the word 'worship' too, Dawkins seems to re-cast this word in the context of science here - https://www.goodreads.com/quotes/912674-i-think-that-when-you-consider-the-beauty-of-the - and also affirm it somehow. (This is new for me in my reading of Dawkins).
And regarding re-casting terms spirituality and religion per Dawkins in conversation with Deepak Chopra -

"In Theory: Is spirituality ‘worse’ than religious?"https://www.latimes.com/socal/burbank-leader/opinion/tn-blr-in-theory-is-spirituality-worse-than-religious-20150623-story.htmlsee:

"Deepak Chopra, the controversial New Age guru and alternative medicine advocate, with whom Dawkins has had a spat with in the past.
Q. What is your opinion of Dawkins’ comments?
--
As a humanist, I am a “none,” although I prefer humanist or “believer in kindness.” In my opinion, the rise in people relating to the world on a more rational, objective and scientific level is good. There are benefits to be drawn from religion, but scientific truth is not one of them. Further, one can be moral without a god and, I believe, often more moral."

and further regarding Deepak Chopra's thinking in this article -
"As far as spirituality is concerned, it is defined in many ways and many nontheists who consider themselves spiritual do it from a standpoint of relating to a “human energy” ... "
And, re the 'blasphemy' word - "the act or offense of speaking sacrilegiously about God or sacred things; profane talk" (which has been used culturally in horrendous ways historically, in many religious, spiritual or worshipping societies, re mis-use of power, as I read this) - I was also interested to see Dawkins Tweet recently, in Humanists' International, that "Scotland abolishes its “blasphemy” law"
https://t.co/kQTpD2DHIg— Richard Dawkins (@RichardDawkins) April 25, 2020
https://twitter.com/RichardDawkins/status/1253933589365833729?s=20https://humanists.international/2020/04/scotland-abolishes-its-blasphemy-law/

Having written my Reed College undergraduate thesis on language and religion re questions of power emerging from liberation theology thinking (on Rosemary Ruether's book "Sexism and God-Talk"), I won't suggest that the words 'spiritual,' 'worship,' and 'religion' could be potentially misused as horrendously as the word "blasphemy," has (but no longer can be misused in Scotland due to a change in laws) I am appreciative of how Quakers over 350 years have developed 'organically' other words, perhaps out of plain speech, than religious or spiritual words ... eg Silent Meeting for MfW (re worship word), Society of Friends for RSoF (re religion word), and perhaps inner Light (re 'spirituality' word) ... and which Non-theist Friends are exploring in new ways. Seeking to affirm the friendly caring, the networking, and even the respect for law (re Quaker conscientious objection), and re Scotland's "blasphemy law" change (and even regarding Friends' Journal "Separation of Church and State" article by psychiatrist George L. Alexander MD, January 1, 2008 https://www.friendsjournal.org/separation-church-and-state/), in our NtF language use here.
For me, the words 'spiritual,' 'worship,' and 'religion' in other contexts, and among NtFs, Quakers, could be used with regard to questions of mis-use of power - and even in the creation of victims in Quaker Meetings - and I hope we non-theist Friends will seek to further invent and create new language in these regards, - and potentially in seeking to co-generate further a vision, not necessarily of Elias Hicks' Peaceable Kingdom (am wary of this 'king' word too), and also not perhaps of Penn's Woods' 'Holy Experiment' (am wary of 'holy' word too - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holy_Experiment) - but perhaps newly in this time of the online coronavirus pandemic (see 5 "Hypothetical News" stories at bottom here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/04/himalyan-monal-how-are-harbin-hot.html - in 'genes' label, with about 40 blog posts so far re covid-19) and virtual gatherings among NtFriends - with a kind of Plain Speech (free from problematic language? ie if the words 'spiritual,' 'worship,' and 'religion' and 'blasphemy' are somehow wrong, or false, or lack integrity regarding non-theistic Friendly thinking) - of further shared F/friendly envisioning and communitas virtually, or gathered-ness and centering down together.  Let's "outgrow God / Goddess / the Divine / Divinities' " language together. :)
And regarding all these virtual Meetings, am hoping that contact tracing, and testing too (pre-vaccine), and among Friends and Quaker Meetings esp., will provide a way out of 'self-quarantining' as a way to protect others, potential victims and ourselves -

John, Rosemary, NtF planning group, Nontheist Friends, Atheist & Agnostic Quakers,
A friend, Andrew Lownie, from when I was studying in Scotland in the mid-to-late-1970s for a year during high school just re-Tweeted this quite traditional Church of England Easter Service Youtube video (with two women church leaders, and lovely Purcell music) which seems germane for Friends too, and re the comfort of the ritual of Quaker Silent Meeting, both in Britain and in America - and in this time of the uncertainty and fear created by coronavirus pandemic memes worldwide:

NtF planners, it could be an interesting example to come into conversation with, as you develop possibly a NtFriendly ritual of online NtF Quaker Meeting emerging out of annual FGC in person gatherings of previous years.
