Oil Prod not in Biden’s Gas Price Plan

On Tuesday’s “CNN Newsroom,” White House Council of Economic Advisers member Jared Bernstein stated that President Joe Biden’s plan to control gas prices is engaging “in diplomatic measures” to get oil-producing companies to follow their commitments, releasing oil reserves as needed, and using regulation to ensure consumers aren’t abused and price decreases are passed along.
Co-host Victor Blackwell asked, “A gallon of regular now up to $3.46 on average, a new seven-year high, up more — it’s up a dollar, almost, from a year ago. The president ordered release of 50 million barrels from the reserve. That was back in November, I believe it was, hit the market in December. OPEC is not ramping up increases to the desires of the U.S. What is the plan to control ga …

MD Gov. Won’t Run for Senate

Maryland’s Gov. Larry Hogan, a Republican, has decided not to run for the Senate.

The Hill reported Hogan made his announcement at a Tuesday press conference. The outlet said that senior Republicans had been hoping a Hogan candidacy would put another seat in play during the upcoming midterm elections.

“I will not be a candidate for the United States Senate,” he said. “I sincerely appreciate all the people who have been encouraging me to consider it. A number of people have said they thought I could make a difference in the Senate. I don’t aspire to be a United States senator, and that fact has not changed.”

Hogan, who is term-limited, is unable to run for reelection this year.

He said he called Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R‑Ky., to let him know about the de …

Russia Sanctions Bill Close

U.S. lawmakers negotiating a Russia sanctions bill were getting “closer and closer” to an agreement, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said on Tuesday.

Russia has amassed troops and equipment along its border with Ukraine, stoking fears of an invasion. Washington has threatened Moscow with sanctions should it attack Ukraine.

“It is moving along but there are still a couple of areas of disagreement, but they’re bridging the gap. They’re getting closer and closer,” Schumer said of the sanctions bill.

Schumer told reporters that many congressional Democrats and the administration of President Joe Biden think that passing a “strong sanctions bill before any invasion … would take away the disincentive from Russia invading.” That, he said, is one of the outstanding areas of disagreement with Republicans.

Russia has demanded that NATO pledge to never admit Ukra …

NY Dems Sued for Effort To Split Jewish Vote

Democrats

Map would dilute Brooklyn Jews’ voting power and create ‘a partisan advantage’ for Dems

A group of Republican voters in New York says Democrats illegally split up conservative Jewish voters in freshly drawn congressional maps as part of a scheme to help Democratic candidates in November.
Election laws require states to strive to place communities with cultural and social ties—known as “communities of interest”—in the same congressional districts. But 14 Republican voters say the New York map shifts Orthodox Jewish and Russian Jewish votes from the state’s 11th district, held by Rep. Nicole Malliotakis (R.), to Democratic strongholds in the 8th, 9th and 10th districts. The result is a map that dilutes Brooklyn Jews’ voting power and creates “a partisan advantage” for Democrats.
“The new map divides closely knit, concentrated Orthodox Jewish and Russian communities with strong social and cultural ties, resulting in conservative Republican-leaning voters spread or ‘cracked’ across multiple districts,” the lawsuit reads.
Malliotakis’s district includes Staten Island and portions of south Brooklyn. Though the updated map includes Staten Island, it replaces conservative Jewish communities with Brooklyn’s more liberal enclaves.
“Anyone looking at the maps can see that they are changing the boundaries to tilt the scale and give their candidates an advantage,” said Malliotakis, who narrowly defeated Democratic incumbent Max Rose in 2020.
The suit targets Gov. Kathy Hochul (D.) and other state leaders for approving one of the most aggressively gerrymandered House district maps in the country. The move would raise Democrats’ advantage over Republicans from 11 seats to 18. Political observers say the map, should it survive legal challenges, could single-handedly help Democrats maintain control of the House …

Jury Trial for Don Lemon

In 2019, CNN’s Don Lemon was accused of sexual assault. After more than two years of delays due to a lengthy discovery process and COVID-19, Lemon will soon be going to court. An order for a jury trial was entered into the court system on Dec. 20, 2021, by a federal judge in New York. Lemon reportedly was opposed to a jury trial and had asked for a bench trial, which would have left his fate up to a judge.According to the lawsuit, which was filed by Dustin Hice in August of 2019 in Suffolk County Court, “[Lemon] put his hand down the front of his own shorts, and vigorously rubbed his genitalia, removed his hand and shoved his index and middle fingers into Plaintiff’s mustache and under Plaintiff’s nose.”
The incident is alleged to have occurred in a Hamptons bar in 2018.

U.S. Backs Taiwan with Patriot Missiles

Under siege Taiwan has received military support in the form of the approval of U.S. weapons contracts on Monday – in face of growing threats from Communist China.
The United States has agreed a $100 million “military sales” deal with Taiwan, allowing them access to gain “PATRIOT air and missile defense systems” to help provide their airspace with the necessary security in light of growing Chinese threats.
The need for the contract was demonstrated on the 23rd of January when China flew “39 warplanes” into Taiwan’s air defense zone, the second-largest number of incursions from China that have been recorded.
Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense expressed “gratitude” to the U.S. on Monday and that the “arms sale” will “strengthen” their “defense capabilities and maintain regional peace and stability.”

“Taiwan independence means war,” a spokesman for China’s Ministry of National Defense said at a press briefing Thursday. https://t.co/wsx5OBY1U4
— Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) January 31, 2021
China has reacted furiously to the news of the contract, with China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zhao Lijian saying on Tuesday the deal “seriously undermines” China’s “sovereignty and security in …

How Inflation Makes Military Poorer

Right now, it’s hard to find any good, commodity or service that is getting cheaper. Those same inflationary trends hold true for the Department of Defense’s finances. Congress keeping the military on a spending freeze for nearly half a year is only exacerbating budget challenges.
The result is an agency surging troops forward as Russia builds up forces near Ukraine that is losing buying power near equivalent to sequestration levels of 2013. Absent a fast fix, the military will continue to financially triage as planned costs for everything from fuel to timber to rental assistance far outpace actual bills.
The Pentagon is losing between $4 and 6 billion a month when accounting for the loss of spending increase Congress provided this year in the absence of appropriations and inflation running from three to 7% or more depending on account. Roughly $3 billion is simply lost due to the lack of money, or purchasing power, from Congress. While the Hill voted to authorize a 5% topline increase of $36 billion, appropriators have yet to “cut the check” for these finances. The federal government is stuck at Trump-era levels of spending—to say nothing of hundreds of misaligned accounts and pri …
