Capitol Police Issue Emergency Declaration

The Capitol Police Board has issued an emergency declaration over the People’s Convoy trucker protest that has arrived in DC.
House Sergeant at Arms William Walker announced the emergency declaration as the convoy arrived on Sunday.

“The Capitol Police Board has issued an emergency declaration to ensure that the US Capitol police are able to operate and respond as necessary,” Walker said in a letter to all members of Congress and staff, CNN reports.

Walker suggested people try to work remotely or take public transit while the convoy is protesting.

Walker also said the Committee on House Administration had “determined that extraordinary circumstances exist to permit use of official funds to reimburse short-term lodging expenses in the Washington, D.C., area for certain Members and staff,” per the report.

Washington County, Maryland, Sheriff Doug Mullendore has said that they have not had any issues with the convoy while they were in Hagerstown to rally earlier in the day.

A judge cleared a father from Rochester, New York, who was arrested and charged with criminal trespassing last spring for not wearing a mask at this son’s outdoor baseball game while he was social distancing.Chad Hummel, an attorney, was facing up to 90 days in jail and professional licensing consequences; he was acquitted last week after a four-hour bench trial before Judge Joseph J. President Biden’s pick for Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs defended Chinese Communist Party-funded Confucius Institutes.
Confucius Institutes, which are hosted at American universities, have been described by Chinese government officials as “an important part of China’s overseas propaganda set-up.”

Notoriously rife with propaganda, intellectual property theft, and espionage per the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Department of Justice (DOJ), Confucius Institutes count support from Victoria Nuland.
Nuland, an Obama administration State Department alum nominated to join the Biden White House, outlined her support for the effort at a 2012 press conference.

“This is something that we support. It’s part of the people-to-people understanding,” she added.
Nuland is also a Senior Counselor at Albright Stonebridge Group, a consulting firm that works extensively with China and employs Chinese Communist Party officials.

‘We were only following orders’

Russian pilots have been filmed saying they were ‘following orders’ after their aircraft was shot down over Ukraine.

Pictures and video show the men, some on their knees with their hands behind their heads and others bleeding heavily, after being detained by soldiers and civilians in a field.

Video shared online shows a pilot, reportedly from a downed Russian aircraft, wearing an orange jumpsuit as he gets on his knees with his hands behind his head as his capture questions him.

It comes after footage showed two pilots ejecting from an aircraft — thought to be an Su-30 — after it was shot down over the Ukrainian city of Chernihiv on Saturday.

Footage also emerged of a Russian pilot wearing a blue jumpsuit and a bloodstained T‑shirt being treated for a head wound after he crashed in a field.

With a bandage around his head, he nodded wearily as Ukrainian troops asked him questions.

A third video shows two men, reportedly Russian pilots with blood coming from their faces, being interrogated in the back of a van.

The footage came on a day when Russian aerial forces lost as many as eight aircraft, as well as multi-role, strike and close air support aircraft and a drone.

NY Times: New York DA’s Probe of Trump ‘Unraveled’

The investigation into former President Donald Trump and his financial statements “unraveled” after a disagreement flared between two veteran prosecutors and the Manhattan district attorney, The New York Times reported Saturday.


According to the report, two veteran prosecutors, Mark F. Pomerantz and Carey R. Dunne tried to present a convincing argument to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg ahead of the expiration for the grand jury to hear evidence Trump knew his financial statements were misleading.



But Bragg, who would be needed to seek charges against Trump, doubted the two lawyers could provide strong evidence Trump had “intentionally set out to break the law by inflating the value of his assets in the annual statements,” which would be key in presenting a strong argument in the case.

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken was in Moldova on Sunday, where he was scheduled to meet with Moldovan leaders dealing with the arrival of more than 120,000 refugees from neighboring Ukraine.In all, more than 230,000 Ukrainians had crossed into Moldova since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began 11 days ago, The Associated Press reported.Moldova was also seeking security assurances from the West as it dealt with its own fears of a Russian invasion, the AP reported. Russia switches to China’s card system after Visa, Mastercard suspends operations [details]

Russia declares ceasefire for 5‑and-half hours in Mariupol and Volnovakha cities of Ukraine
After Visa and Mastercard announced that their operations in Russia would be suspended, many Russian banks announced on Sunday that they would soon begin issuing cards using the Chinese UnionPay card operator’s system combined with Russia’s own Mir network. Sberbank, Russia’s largest bank, as well as Alfa Bank and Tinkoff, all announced the transfer to UnionPay on Sunday.
The development has come amidst, Visa and Mastercard, both based in the United States, announced on Saturday that they were halting operations in Russia as a result of the invasion of Ukraine and that they would work with clients and partners to stop all transactions there. All transactions started with Visa cards issued in Russia will no longer function outside of the nation within days and any Visa cards issued outside of Russia will no longer work within the country, the company said in an official statement.

It is pertinent to note that Russian banks have been barred from using the SWIFT global payments system by the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union. SWIFT connects nearly 11,000 banks and institutions in over 200 countries, and Russia’s loss of access to the system would have an impact on international cash transfers and foreign trade. Multiple Russian financial firms have also been barred from utilising Mastercard and Visa’s networks.
