GOP Is Blocking Biden Nominees, And His SCOTUS Pick Could Be Next

The Senate currently finds itself in the unusual situation of a tie – evenly split between 50 Democrats and 50 Republicans. As a procedural matter, a Senate tie requires some interesting maneuvering. A power-sharing agreement must be passed to hammer out how the majority-minority dynamics will play out. Also, in theory, the vice president must be on notice to break any tie votes that occur – something that would be happening a lot more if so many Republicans weren’t happily voting for so many of Joe Biden’s nominees.
But a tied Senate also creates opportunities. As I’ve written previously, the Senate’s Rule 26 comes into play in a tied Senate in a way that would hardly matter otherwise. The rule requires that a “majority of the committee” be “physically present” to report a matter (either a bill or a nomination) out of committee. This is true regardless of what an individual committee’s rules say about minority members being present.
Normally, a single party can present a physical majority of members …

Putin Issues Warning to Western World

DUBLIN, March 7 (Reuters) — Western countries could face oil prices of over $300 per barrel and the possible closure of the main Russia-Germany gas pipeline if governments follow through on threats to cut energy supplies from Russia, a senior minister said on Monday.
Oil prices spiked to their highest levels since 2008 on Monday after U. S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Washington and European allies were considering banning Russian oil imports.
“It is absolutely clear that a rejection of Russian oil would lead to catastrophic consequences for the global market,” Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said in a statement on state television.

EU considers membership of Ukraine

The European Union agreed to start examining the membership bids of Ukraine, Georgia, and Moldova on Monday as Russia’s invasion of Ukraine stretched into its 12th day.
The French Presidency of the Council of the EU announced on Twitter that its 27 member states “agreed to invite the European Commission to present an opinion on each of the applications for EU membership submitted by Ukraine, Georgia and Moldova.”
The trio of former Soviet states submitted their requests for admittance last week, a process that usually takes years. After the opinion is given, members states have to agree unanimously to allow an applicant to become a “candidate,” and then certain “accession criteria” are considered during the formal membership negotiations.

That process involves “the adoption of established EU law, preparations to be in a position to properly apply and enforce it and implementation of judicial, administrative, economic and other reforms necessary for the country to meet the conditions for joining,” according to the European Commission.

Georgia’s and Moldova’s applications to the EU piggybacked off of Ukraine’s plea to join the bloc. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked for Ukraine to receive a fast-tracked admittance to the union in light of Russia’s invasion of his country.
“Do prove that you are with us. Do prove that you will not let us go. Do prove that you indeed are Europeans, and then life will conquer death, and light will win over darkness. Glory be to Ukraine,” Zelensky told members of European Parliament last week, according to the New York Post.

WH grilled over Venezuelan oil ransom

At Monday’s White House press conference, the Biden administration’s spokeswoman Jen Psaki made an effort to distinguish discussions surrounding energy security with Venezuelan officials as a “separate path” from talking about the health and well-being of US citizens detained there. It was back on Saturday that senior members of the Biden administration went to Caracas to meet with Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro. When asked about it, Psaki’s response distanced the topic from the notion that US citizens would be any kind of “bargaining chip” in exchange for easing US oil sanctions on Venezuela.“Going back to Venezuela for a second: Would they have to agree to release the US citizens in prison there, if the US were to ease the current sanctions on oil exports?” asked one reporter in the White House briefing room.Psaki responded to the member of the press: “So that’s a really important question. There are different channels, and obviously we’re going to continue to d …

Cumberbatch Wants Your Sons To Be Feminists

Doctor Strange actor Benedict Cumberbatch recently claimed he wants to turn your sons in to feminists while also responding to Sam Elliott’s criticism of The Power of the Dog. Elliot took issue with the film’s “allusions to homosexuality,” its portrayal of cowboys, and the way it depicts the American Myth.

At the end of February, Elliott appeared on Marc Maron’s podcast WTF with Marc Maron, where he discussed The Power of the Dog explaining why he didn’t like the movie saying, “I’ll tell you why. I didn’t like it anyway. I looked at it when I was down there in Texas doing 1883. And what really brought it home to me, the other day, when I said to you I want to f***ing talk about it. There was a f***ing full page ad out in The LA Times and there was a review, not a review, a clip, and it talked about the evisceration of the American myth.”

Rantz: Maskless Rep. Jayapal admits she ‘undermines our democracy’ in shocking tweets

Seattle Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal admitted she “undermines our democracy” in a pair of shockingly hypocritical tweets. The far-left partisan admits she refuses to “adhere to the basic norms of civility.” Jayapal even bragged about it via Twitter by posting two photos.
Maskless in both photos, Jayapal is seen enjoying the Seattle Kraken game in D.C., on March 5 — while possibly spreading COVID. She was not actively eating or drinking. She wasn’t even holding her breath! While she’d like us to believe her position on the science behind masks changed in the last few days, she’s been rigidly anti-science for most of the pandemic.
Previously, Jayapal compared Republicans who don’t wear masks on elevators at the Capitol to “insurrectionists.” And she called out Republican “selfish idiocy” for refusing to wear …

Leak Reveals What Biden Plans to Do If Russia Captures Kyiv

The Biden administration is already looking ahead to a Ukrainian government without a place to call its own, according to a new report.
The report has a plan that assumes Russia will succeed and conquer Kyiv, as well as other major cities, and control large chunks of the nation. That would lead to the establishment of a Ukrainian government in exile in Poland, according to The Washington Post. The Post report was based on leaks from officials it did not name.
“We’re doing contingency planning now for every possibility,” the Post’s source said.

Bill Clinton Makes Major Announcement About His Relaunch

Former President Bill Clinton announced Friday the reactivation of the Clinton Global Initiative after a period of hibernation, citing climate change and the war in Ukraine.
“The need for that kind of cooperation and coordination has never been more urgent than it is now,” Clinton wrote in a letter.
“The COVID-19 pandemic has ripped the cover off of longstanding inequities and vulnerabilities across our global community,” he added. “The existential threat of climate change grows every day. Democracy is under assault around the world, most glaringly in Ukraine where Russia has launched an unjustified and unprovoked invasion that has put millions of lives in grave danger.”

January 6 Defendant Being Illegally Detained – Locked up More Than 80 Days With No Indictment

You don’t see this very often in federal court, but one of the January 6 (J6) Defendants, Lucas Denney, is being held illegally. He was arrested in Texas on December 13, 2021, and brought before a federal magistrate, who ordered him detained without bond on a criminal Complaint. It then took six weeks to transfer him to DC, where he is currently being held. He has not appeared before a federal judge in DC since his arrival, although that will change Monday afternoon as a result of his lawyer seeking his release.Denney’s case involves two distinct, major screwups. The first is that he was not afforded a Preliminary Hearing, to which he is entitled under the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure and the Constitution. The second is …
