Audit: Cuomo undercounted nursing home deaths

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
An audit released on Tuesday by the New York State government concluded that the administration of former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo failed to accurately account for the number of New Yorkers who died from the coronavirus in nursing homes.According to an audit released Tuesday by New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli, Cuomo’s Health Department failed to account for 4,100 nursing home deaths and undercounted the coronavirus death toll in nursing homes by as much as 50% from April 2020 to February 2021.

The public was misled by those at the highest level of state government through distortion and suppression of the facts when New Yorkers deserved the truth. The pandemic is not over, and I am hopeful the current administration will make changes to improve accountability and protect lives. An important step would be for DOH to provide the families who lost loved ones with answers as to the actual number of nursing homes residents who died. These families are still grieving, and they deserve no less.“The audit states that the health department fell “well short” of its “moral” and “ethical” obligation to accurately report the deaths. In a statement to Fox News, Cuomo spokesperson Rich Azzopardi suggested the release of the audit had politically based motives.

Russian lawmaker demands return of Alaska

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
A Russian lawmaker made an outlandish demand over the weekend that the United States return Alaska and a historic settlement in California, in addition to paying reparations to Russia over crippling American-led sanctions that have put Moscow’s economy in a tailspin. Oleg Matveychev, a member of the state Duma, outlined on Russian state television a set of demands for the U.S. and Ukraine after Kiv’s “demilitarization is completed,” the Express newspaper in the United Kingdom reported. The demands include the return of Alaska, which the U.S. purchased from the Russian Empire in 1867 as part of the Alaska Purchase, and the former Russian settlement of Fort Ross, California, 90miles north of San Francisco.RUSSIA ANNOUNCES SANCTIONS AGAINST BIDEN AND TOP US OFFICIALS

Biden to announce $1B in aid to Ukraine

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
President Biden plans to announce over $1 billion in military assistance to Ukraine. The president will announce an additional $800 million in funding for Ukraine, which will be in addition to the $200 million that was announced on Saturday. The new funding will make the total assistance to Ukraine over $1 billion in just the span of a few days, bringing total U.S. military assistance to Ukraine over $1.2 billion within the past year. HOW MISCALCULATIONS AND MISPERCEPTIONS COULD LEAD TO US-RUSSIA CONFLICTThe funding comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set Wednesday to deliver a remote address to Congress, during which he is expected to outline a list of equipment the Ukrainians feel they need to fend off the Russian invasion. The New York Times reports that the list is not meant to be a replacement for Ukraine’s request for MiG fighter jets from Poland, an effort that has been stalled by the U.S. amid fears that it could serve to escalate tensions between NATO and Russia.“The intelligence community has assessed that the transfer of MiG-29s may be mistaken as escalatory and could result in significant Russian reaction that might increase the prospects of a military escalation with NATO,” Pentagon press secretary John Kirby told reporters last week. “Therefore, we also assess the MiG-29s to Ukraine to be high-risk.”

Kremlin: Demilitarized Ukraine compromise
Article contentLONDON — The Kremlin said on Wednesday that a demilitarized Ukraine with its own army along the lines of Austria or Sweden was being looked at as a possible compromise. “This is a variant that is currently being discussed and which could really be seen a compromise,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was quoted as saying by RIA news agency. The reference to demilitarization appeared to relate to the idea of neutral status for Ukraine. Ukraine was promised by NATO as far back as 2008 that it would one day become a member of the alliance. Russia has said it cannot allow that to happen, and cited it as part of the logic for what it calls its special military operation in Ukraine. Biden gears up for midterm elections as Democrats fear for majorities

After months of the White House dismissing midterm election questions, President Joe Biden is shifting his focus toward November, when the Democrats’ congressional majorities will be on the ballot.
Biden’s first in-person presidential Democratic National Committee fundraiser Monday night marks a turning point for Democrats amid criticism of Biden’s lack of donor events and a cohesive partywide fall message.
HOW JILL BIDEN COULD UPSTAGE HER HUSBAND DURING UKRAINE CRISIS
The 2022 outlook for Democrats is “gloomy” given the “powerful” forces conspiring against them in November, according to political commentator Costas Panagopoulos.
“Throw in lackluster approval ratings for Biden, soaring inflation and gas prices, and mixed signals overall in the economy,” he told the Washington Examiner.
But the fall is not a Republican fait accompli, Panagopoulos advised, as the Russia-Ukraine war upends the U.S. political milieu.
“There are bright signs for the president and for the party in November, including recent victories in redistricting battles that may help in some House races, problematic GOP candidacies for the Senate and, depending on how things play out, a crisis in Ukraine that may cause many Americans to rally around the flag and Biden and boost his ratings, thereby helping in the midterms,” he said.
Democrats will likely contest the elections having notched only one big partisan win during Biden’s first two years in office: the $2 trillion American Rescue Plan. The party touted the legislation’s anniversary last week, which preceded the $1 trillion bi …

Big Dem Rep Just Demolished One Of Biden’s Big Dreams…

West Virginia Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin announced on Monday that he will oppose one of President Joe Biden’s nominees to the Federal Reserve, leaving her candidacy to join the central bank in serious trouble.
“I have carefully reviewed Sarah Bloom Raskin’s qualifications and previous public statements. Her previous public statements have failed to satisfactorily address my concerns about the critical importance of financing an all-of-the-above energy policy to meet our nation’s critical energy needs,” Manchin said in a statement.
“I have come to the conclusion that I am unable to support her nomination to serve as a member of the Federal Reserve Board,” he added.

AMC Buying $27.9M Stake in Mining
Cinema giant AMC Theatres said Tuesday it was buying a 22 percent stake in gold and silver mining company Hycroft Mining Holding Corp., including its 71,000 acre Hycroft Mine in northern Nevada, for $27. 9 million in cash.
Management described the unusual move by the cinema giant, which has made a name for itself as a meme stock, as an opportunistic one and the latest example for how AMC looks to create value by thinking outside the box (and outside the box office).
“The strength of Spider-Man: No Way Home and The Batman, as well as 2022’s promising industry box office, heighten AMC Entertainment’s conviction that we are on a glide path to recovery,” said Adam Aron, chairman and CEO of AMC Entertainment. “Our strategic investment being announced today is the result of our having identified a company in an unrelated industry that appears to be just like AMC …

US Producer Prices Climbed 10%
Wholesale inflation in the United States shot up 10% last month from a year earlier — another sign that inflationary pressures remain intense at all levels of the economy.
The Labor Department said Tuesday that is producer price index — which tracks inflation before it hits consumers — rose 0.8% from December. The increases were in line with economists’ forecasts.
The report did not include price changes after Feb. 15, missing a spike in energy prices when Russia invaded Ukraine nine days later.
Excluding volatile food and energy prices, wholesale inflation rose 0.2% from January and 8,4% from February 2021.
Last week, the government reported that surging gas, food and housing costs pushed consumer prices up 7.9% in February from a year earlier — sharpest spike since 1982.
Inflation, dormant for four decades, re-emerged last year …
