Biden pouring billions into electric public transit
Thirteen years after the Obama administration first began pouring tens of billions of dollars into solar energy subsidies that did little to increase the renewable’s share in electricity generation, the Biden-Harris administration has announced over $5.5 billion in funding for low- and no-emission transit vehicles as gas prices skyrocket. In 2009, with the enactment of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the Brookings Institution estimated over $150 billion would be spent on green initiatives, including subsidies for solar energy, over the years 2009–2014.
Yet, despite Obama’s massive bet on solar, more than a decade later, in 2020, solar energy still accounted for just 2.3% of total electricity generation in the U.S., according to the Energy Information Administration. During the same year, all renewable energy sources combined represented 20% of U.S. electricity generation — compared to natural gas at 40%, nuclear at 20%, and coal at 19%.
“Our transportation sector has reached a turning point,” Vice President Kamala Harris declared last week in announcing an administration initiative to “expand clean …

MN lawmakers may ban social media algorithms from targeting children
Social media platforms would be prohibited from using algorithms to target children under a bill advanced by a Minnesota House committee Tuesday.Rep. Kirstin Robbins, R‑Maple Grove, sponsored the bill, HF 3724, after reading about the impact of social media on teenagers. She said in the House Commerce Finance and Policy Committee meeting the Child Internet Protection Act, which the federal government passed in 2000 and updated in 2011, does not cover social media platforms. Schools and libraries must educate minors about appropriate online behavior, including interactions on social networking websites, an FCC document said.
Tech industry representatives said the bill would not be helpful for protecting children.
NetChoice policy counsel Jennifer Huddleston said in committee that the bill would violate the First Amendment, citing Supreme Court decisions on Sorrell v IMS and Ashcroft v ACLU. She said it would also create a false sense of security for parents, deterring conversations with children about consuming media wisely.
Adam Kovacevich, CEO and founder of center-left association Chamber of Progress, said online platforms use algorithms to prioritize healthy content an …

China is Using Oil to De-Dollarize the World Economy

It’s no secret that the United States of America became a superpower as a result of World War 2. Even before the war officially concluded, the United States secured its long-term economic viability with the Bretton Woods Agreement.
The upshot of that 1944 meeting of delegates from 44 countries in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire was the establishment of both the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank. But more importantly, the agreement replaced the gold standard with the U.S. dollar as the global currency …

Russia’s top state-controlled energy company is set to cash in on a $10 billion contract to build out one of Iran’s most contested nuclear sites as part of concessions granted in the soon-to-be-announced nuclear agreement that will guarantee sanctions on both countries are lifted.
Russian and Iranian documents translated for the Washington Free Beacon show that Rosatom, Russia’s leading energy company, has a $10 billion contract with Iran’s atomic energy organization to expand Tehran’s Bushehr nuclear plant. Russia and the Biden administration confirmed on Tuesday that the new nuclear agreement includes carveouts that will waive sanctions on both countries so that Russia can make good on this contract.
“We, of course, would not sanction Russian participation in nuclear projects that are part of resuming full implementation of the JCPOA,” State Department spokesman Ned Price confirmed on Tuesday, referring to the original 2015 nuclear accord. Russia’s foreign ministry made a similar statement on Tuesday, saying that “additions were made to the text of the future agreement on JCPOA restoration to ensure that all the JCPOA-related projects, [especially] with Russian participation, as well as Bushehr [nuclear power plant], are protected from negative impact of anti-Russian restrictions” by the United States and European Union.
The removal of these sanctions will provide Moscow’s Rosatom company with a critical …
