Playing Catch Up – Black Cat and Jungle Queen
FRANK CHO ‘Black Cat’ on Spider-Man variant cover – click to enlarge
After doing back-to-back conventions, Spectrum Fantastic Art Live and Big Wow Comic Fest, I’ve been playing catch up all week. I’ve been jumping around on “Guardians of the Galaxy” Annual #1, Spider-Man variant cover and “Drawing Beautiful Women: The Frank Cho Method” art instruction book. But I’ve been focusing mostly on Spider-Man cover and “Drawing Beautiful Women” book.
Here’s a sneak and partial peek of the two mentioned. Black Cat is part of the big Spider-Man variant cover I’m doing and the Jungle Queen is part of the chapter in the “Drawing Beautiful Women” book. Now Spider-Man cover is a store variant. I don’t know which store will carry this variant cover issue, nor do I know when it will be released. So please no questions about it until I find out.
That’s all for now, gang. Gotta get back to work. I’ll update you guys as things unfold. Talk to you on Wednesday.

Big Wow Comic Fest 2014 Photos
This year’s Big Wow Comic Fest in San Jose was a huge success. It felt like the attendance doubled from last year. The main theme of the show was original comic book art and cosplay, and there were plenty of that all around.
Some of the biggest names in comics were at hand during the show signing autographs and sketching: Mike Mignola, Charlie Adlard, Arthur Adams, Neal Adams, Humberto Ramos, Nick Bradshaw, Travis Charest, Mike Zeck, etc. And some of the biggest names in cosplay were there, too, wowing the crowd: Jessica Nigri, Riki Riddle, Valerie Perez, Ivy Doomkitty, etc.
Speaking of Ivy Doomkitty, we held our annual figure drawing class. Ivy was awesome dressed as the classic 1950′s Sheena the Jungle Queen complete with spear and leopard skin outfit and kind enough to pose for the entire class as we sketched her. I also completed a giant 6 foot Emma Frost painting on the art stage at the convention floor on Saturday. I’m looking forward to doing another giant painting next year at the show. Oh, I signed my name on two fantastic women – on their boobs. ;-)
There were many other exciting activities and panels happening throughout the weekend which I can’t list all because there were so many of them. But one thing was for sure, good time was had by all.
Afterward, some of the guests and Big Wow family retreated to the nearby winery in the mountains on Monday where we ate BBQ and drank wine all afternoon. Brian Stelfreeze dazzled us by doing some impromptu watercolor paintings of the mountain scenery.
And to top it all off, I got to see the new “Godzilla” movie with my friends this weekend. Again, good times had by all. I can’t wait for next year’s show.

FRANK CHO “Cards, Comics & Collectibles” variant cover to “Big Trouble and Little China” color
The first day at Big Wow Comic Fest was packed and insane. Long lines all day long. I’ve spent half the day painting the giant Emma Frost painting on the stage so that I can donate finished piece in time for the art auction that night.
I’m absolutely exhausted. Now I’m back in my hotel room trying to finish some commissions so that I can go to bed and prepare for the big female figure drawing class that I’m teaching on Sunday at Big Wow. Again, the lovely Ivy Doomkitty will be the live model for the class.
That’s it. I’m too damn tired. I’m calling it a night. Gonna finish the commissions in the morning.
Picture of the Day: Here’s the final color to the “Big Trouble In Little China” cover. Now this is a store variant cover so you can only get it at one store – “Cards, Comics & Collectibles” in Reisterstown, Maryland. So reserve you copy at the store. http://cardscomicscollectibles.com
