Luxa2 H4 iPad Holder

Luxa2 H4 iPad Holder:

It looks like a robotic device at first glance, but it's quite versatile—it rotates 360 degrees and tilts at almost any angle. I'm finding, however, that iPad stands seem to be practical only for certain scenarios. With the amount screen touching required to do just about anything in normal use, few setups are more optimal than holding it in your hands or laying it on a flat surface. Even an external keyboard is almost useless for anything other than long periods of typing.

The Pipeline: Liz Danzico

The Pipeline: Liz Danzico:

Dan Benjamin has been putting out some quality interviews lately, and this is one of them. Also consider listening to The Gizmodo/iPhone Thing.

Design Swap

Design Swap:

A little bit like Layer Tennis, but with personal consequences: Two designers face off, each redesigning part or all of the other's site. Concept and design by Trent Walton and Yaron Schoen.

Why I'm Angry About the iPhone Leak

Why I'm Angry About the iPhone Leak:

I believe this is David Shoemaker, founder of Boomplex, effusing some Gizmodo smackdown:

Somewhere along the line their sense of self-worth and success became perversely dependent on how well they could employ shady tactics to profit from tearing down other people's hard work. We need less people like that in our society.

I can imagine how enraged I'd be if this had happened to one of my proprietary products. If there is anything good to come from this, ...

Symphony of Steel

Symphony of Steel:

I finally framed this photo by Sara Flemming of the Frank Gehry-designed Walt Disney Concert Hall. "Stunning" doesn't cut it, but that's what it is—both photo and building.

Henge Dock for MacBook

Henge Dock for MacBook:

If you use a MacBook or MacBook Pro as your dedicated machine, and if you disconnect it often throughout the day, hooking it up to a display and peripherals can be cumbersome. While Henge Dock may be reminiscent of the bulky PC/laptop docking stations we've all seen in the workplace, I could see myself springing for one.

Canny name, too.

B-Cycle to Launch First Bike Sharing Program in Denver

B-Cycle to Launch First Bike Sharing Program in Denver:

B-Cycle is a bike sharing service not unlike Zipcar's car sharing service. The concept is already prolific in many areas of Europe, as this Wikipedia page demonstrates.

If you'll be joining me (and other fine speakers) in Denver this June, you might consider B-Cycle as a way to get around town. Service begins April 22.

I Love Typography: The Vignelli Twelve

I Love Typography: The Vignelli Twelve:

John Boardley, refuting Massimo Vignelli's storied argument that designers should restrict themselves to just 12 typefaces:

Surely a dozen designs of chair would suffice. And, while we're at it, let's make do with a dozen designs of houses, tables, books, bridges, teacups, salt-shakers … everything. Why, then, do we see such profligacy in design? Because that's what we do, that's who we are. Our restless minds are always striving for 'better', for...

Thank you, Tiffany. (It's worth noting Tiffany Wardle earned her Master of Arts in Theory and History of Typography and Graphic Communication from the University of Reading in England).

My New Fave DIY Tool: Hyde Painter's Pyramids

My New Fave DIY Tool: Hyde Painter's Pyramids:

I spent about 2 hours late last night painting an IKEA Göran table pure black for my office. These pointed supports are excellent to keep whatever it is you're painting off the floor, allow you to finish the bottom cleanly (such as table legs), and provide minimal contact with the surface they're holding. They worked really well.

But shop around first—I found of a set of these at my local Home Depot for just $5.
