"House" Finale to Feature Canon 5D Mark II Footage

"House" Finale to Feature Canon 5D Mark II Footage:

Speaking of shooting stuff with a Canon 5D, the House finale was shot entirely with it. Episode airs May 17.

(It's been just over a year since commercial DSLR video cameras became available, and already "shot with Canon 5DmkII (or 7D)" is becoming commonplace; almost tiresome to repeat, in fact.)

The Making of the Nissan Sentra SE-R Drift Ad

The Making of the Nissan Sentra SE-R Drift Ad:

The stars of this advertisement are not full-size vehicles, but rather 1/10th scale R/C cars and helicopters. The entire ad, aside from a Panasonic used on a tracking vehicle, was shot with a Canon 5D Mark II.

Simplified ExpressionEngine Control Panel Theme

Simplified ExpressionEngine Control Panel Theme:

Jesse Bennett-Chamberlain:

I'm currently working on a project that involves a lot of EE development, so I took a couple hours last night to tweak the default Control Panel theme. I've only tested it in Safari… so your milage may vary… but feel free to give it a try.

iPad for Filmmaking, Specifically Screenplays

iPad for Filmmaking, Specifically Screenplays:

Stu Maschwitz, filmmaker and "accidental technologist":

First and foremost, I hoped that I would enjoy reading screenplays on my iPad, and I am happy to report that I do, very much. I read a ton of screenplays, many in PDF format. I hate reading them on my computer screen, especially my laptop. Not because of the backlit screen, but because of the psychological association I have with my computers. They are devices for doing work. They are a...

Josh+Amy Wedding Invitation Video

Josh+Amy Wedding Invitation Video:

Love the creativity here. Filmed with a Canon 5D Mark II, but I love what "Matt E" explains in the video's notes:

There's so much buzz in the photo and video industries about cameras like the Canon 5D Mark II and the Canon 7D. But, I feel that this clip would have been just as effective regardless of the type of camera it was shot with. The gorgeous footage from the 5DII only enhances the production value, it doesn't create that value from nothing.

It's...

Moonbird Lamp by Yukio Hashimoto

Moonbird Lamp by Yukio Hashimoto:

This is absolutely gorgeous. But with a price tag nearly as steep as my 13" MacBook Pro, it's unlikely I'll have one of these sitting on my desk anytime soon.

What the iPad is Missing: Good Typography

What the iPad is Missing: Good Typography:

Stephen Coles, FontShop's self-described "Glyph Pusher" (and boy does he know glyphs):

Apple has made some puzzling decisions over the last few years that leave one wondering if they really care about typography as much as they did in the 1980s when the Mac launched the desktop publishing revolution. As recently as 2005, Steve Jobs made typography a central theme of his commencement address to Stanford grads, but his actions as the almighty head of...
