Nike Football+ (Soccer) iPad App

Nike Football+ (Soccer) iPad App:

If you coach or play football (or soccer as we Yankees call it), consider this iPad app a work of art. First, it's practical—create a team roster, download training videos, and track the progress for each player or for yourself. Second, it's well-designed, as you would expect from Nike. Third, it's an outstanding example of how iPad can be anything you want it to be, anywhere you want it. I can easily see coaches using this right there on the practice...

Which Email Clients Support CSS3?

Which Email Clients Support CSS3?:

With the current minimal support for CSS3 in most email clients, the easy counter-argument here is typically, "Why bother?" But I share the same views as Ros Hodgekiss, who authored the article:

Finally, just as many of the properties we have tested are considered to be experimental, we encourage you to be experimental, too. As more email clients join the fray, CSS3's applications in email will certainly become wider-reaching than pretty shadows and...

Visual Hierarchy is the Art of Managing, Not Eliminating

A few months ago 37signals redesigned Basecamp's notification emails, and the result was a move from plain-text emails to HTML emails. For reference, these emails are sent when someone posts or replies to any of the content types in the system (messages, to-dos, etc).

Apple Acquires Personal Mobile Assistant Siri:

They're not just acquiring an iPhone app, but all of the smarts behind its mega-aggregator connecting to services such as Rotten Tomatoes, Yelp, TaxiMagic, OpenTable, and so on—just about anything a user could ask for with a natural language query.

Watch the demo and you'll probably be as impressed as I am with not only the query data but the user experience, too.

We Have Met the Enemy and He Is PowerPoint

We Have Met the Enemy and He Is PowerPoint:

There are so many quotable lines in this New York Times story I could very well copy and paste the entire thing here. Instead, a few gems, beginning with this one:

'PowerPoint makes us stupid,' Gen. James N. Mattis of the Marine Corps, the Joint Forces commander, said this month at a military conference in North Carolina. (He spoke without PowerPoint.)

And this:

Commanders say that behind all the PowerPoint jokes are serious concerns that the...
