Things That Go Bump In The Night – Chapter 1

Hello! Here’s an older story of mine, given a bit of a facelift and rejiggle; far from perfect, but hopefully a fun read? If you like ghost stories, this might be for you! Happy reading!
Chapter 1
“What do these do?”
Ryan turned on his heel to find Travis crouched down, one hand skimming along the side of a faded yellow bumper car with a deep frown etched on his face as he studied it. “These?” Ryan asked, with a nudge of his foot against the car to check his meaning. “Are you jo...
From Coffee Shop Corners

People watching might be George’s favourite way to spend his time. Why wouldn’t he lose himself in dreaming up the loves and lives of other people to escape the mess that is his own? From this new favourite cafe corner, in the new town he’s made his home, George makes up backstories for each of the baristas. And as they serve coffee, George imagines happily ever afters for their waiting customers. But when a surprise email forces him to relive the heartache he’s running from, George can thin...

Post Secret

You are my Post Secret.
Every day I look for ways to
Slip you into a library book
Or leave you under a coaster
In my favourite cafe.
You are my Post Secret.
It’s absurd, the way a word
From you can soothe,
And bind a wound, bring a smile,
Shine light on a dark day.
You are my Post Secret.
And the biggest secret of it all
Is that I’ve carried you too long,
Cared too much, cried myself too blind
To see: you’re not worth this hurting at all.

A Restless Heart

Chapter 19
“Tyler.”
Tyler stiffened for the arms wrapped around him in a hug, closing the door with one hand as he patted Conner’s back.
“What are you doing here?” he asked as he extricated himself from Conner’s grip as quick as he could, putting a good distance between them.
“Erin, obviously.”
“Erin?”
“Yeah, Tyler,” Conner said, laughing. “Though it’s good to see you as well.”
Fury began to writhe and boil in Tyler’s stomach, his jaw aching for how h...

Love is…

He loves you, he says.
Love must have a very different definition in the dictionary he’s been reading, because according to him, love is cruel.
Love is belittling you in front of your friends,
Scorning everyone and everything that’s important to you,
And ridiculing all you do, until you no longer believe in yourself.
He wants you, he says.
Want is subjective.
Want, through his eyes, looks like always having someone there to listen to how right he is, and how wrong you are.
Looks like tel...
Daily Drivel – haikus

Hello!
I’m enjoying haikus a lot this week; I’m sure you can tell. But I realised when doing this morning’s that they have been fairly miserable! So today, I have two sets; the first is pretty miserable and the second is, I’d like to say cheerful, but might just be odd. Who knows! The two sets of words played with today are: embark, divid, reckless, future, sour and estimate, romantic, possess, endless, help.
When they embark on
Plans that would divide us to
obey is reckless

Finding The Words

“You don’t get it, James,” Darren’s voice is low, and tired, and he stands as though he has never lived without permanent ache.
James watches him wordlessly, arms folded roughly across his chest, letting Darren speak.
“You just don’t. You don’t understand that I don’t get good things. I don’t get the happy ending, I can’t just have what I want. I just can’t,” Darren sighs then, looking over at James with pleading in his eyes. James can’t tell if he’s pleading for understanding or to be...
Daily Drivel – haikus

Hello! Five words again today and yet more haikus; they can be read on their own or together, up to you! The words are: deceit, dangerous, horror, people, idea
Have you ever seen
anything as deceitful
as politicians
The idea that They
give a damn about people
brings danger to all
Eldritch and Lovecraft
Horrors could conjure less fear
Than this existence
