Diary Drabble: Stay

They both look up when the light flickers, turning to the window to see the rain hammering own. Stay, Luke says, absent, the back of his hand hitting Tobys thigh since hes sprawled across most of the couch.

You sure? Toby asks.

You cant go out in that, Luke says, hauling himself up.

Hes so close, arm draped casually across the back of the sofa, half leaning in. Toby imagines a crackle in the air between them for the look on Lukes face, but tells himself hes projecting, seeing what he wants...

Diary Drabble: Nuclear

When the cooling tower at the nuclear power station failed, a deathly silence fell on the town. Everyone knew the drill, monitoring their phones for instructions. Theyd been warned if this station failed, it would be more catastrophic than any other. Why the powers-that-be approved its building anyway, knowing the damage it might cause, nobody knew. Well, they did, they just hoped their elected government didnt value money more than human life.

The siren sounded first an eerie wail putting...

Diary Drabble: Collide

When wealth meets power, two horrible forces collide. Not these two qualities alone, but what putting them together make those with both become. This has always been true. No matter the reason, no matter the century, wealth and power together breeds greed. And greed breeds, aside from an inflated ego and sense of self importance, fear. Fear of losing that power, wealth and the freedoms they would deny any other at any cost. Its why they suppress, oppose what is different, target all the...

Diary Drabble: Answer

Gautams heart is in his throat, the tension in his stomach a hard, gripping knot. Kunnars eyes are growing rounder by the minute, and his fingers flare wide down by his side; just as Gautams seen them do on so many occasions when Kunnar has been stuck for words.

Gautam begs silently for him to answer. At this stage hell gladly take any words from him, good or bad. Kunnar shifts, licks his lips, then gives a smile that says hes ready to speak.

Are you sure about this? Kunnar asks, which...

Diary Drabble – Fight

He was all out of fight. Dean couldnt catch his breath, the weight pressing on his chest preventing him from getting more air into his lungs. His heart raced and his skin tingled, and where his shirt had got rucked up there was a draught up his back. Somehow, and he didnt remember doing it, hed lost a sock. And the pillow he was laying on was bunched up in his neck.

Do you give in?

Dean scowled up at his captor, holding an expression of pure irritation for all of a minute before breaking out...

Diary Drabble: Threat

The look Erdan gives him from across the ice is one of threat, putting all the hair up on the back of Onans neck. Onan pretends not to see, eyes forward as he continues his lap around the rink. The whoosh behind him warns of Erdan coming. Onan takes a wide side step and hears Erdan swear under his breath when he almost topples. Then Erdan falls into stride beside him, matching Onan step for step as they skate.

Can we not do anything without trying to out-compete one another? Onan asks,...

Diary Drabble: Sunshine

He sleeps in a ray of sunshine, tracking the movement of its heat across the carpeted floor. Its an arduous task; one paw outside the warm zone and he has to roll over, or at its very worst, actually get up.

Sometimes the clouds seal that heat altogether, and no amount of glaring at that greyness overhead makes any difference. Still, at least its not raining, or that worse abomination, snow.

He stretches, giving up on the heat and instead seeking out food. His bowl is full of fresh biscuits,...

Diary Drabble: Prescription

Think of it as a prescription.

Nathan narrowed his eyes, though couldnt stop the corners of his mouth curving up into a smile. You a pharmacist or something now?

Michael nodded at the teapot again, until Nathan took the hint.

Fine.

If people have lived for centuries maybe millennia with only the herbal properties of plants to heal and treat all their ailments, then theres no reason you cant benefit from this tea.

Anything else youre prescribing me? Nathan asked, raising his cup to his lips....

Diary Drabble: Dynamic

As colleagues, they had an interesting dynamic. Fiercely competitive to the point of obsessive, and no words between them that werent curt, or rude. No one would believe they were friends outside of work. No one could know they didnt even work in the same department. All their colleagues saw was two angry people butting heads instead of having a civil conversation. Some might even find their mannerisms too much, not even professional. Others speculated even more to their relationship, waging...

Diary Drabble: Ancestor

He could be looking at a cousin, an absent brother, or a photo of his father or uncle when they were young. Yet this is Brians ancestor, a soldier from a long-ago war he hardly knows a thing about. He wants to ask him questions, climb into the screen where hes viewing his records and learn everything hes got to say. His face is proud, serious, yet theres a hint of mischief around his eyes. Brian ignores his date of death and glosses over the cause of it, wishing for the chance to go back in...
