Non Believer

You are no messenger of god.
I don’t believe in the words that you say,
Or the existence of your source,
So take your fake proclamations away.
I have no donkey to speak to me,
Nor one willing to carry my load.
There is just me on this broken path,
And I’m fairly sure I took the wrong road.
Do not speak as though eons of knowledge
Flow steadily, dripping from your tongue.
There is no guidance from your good book
Showing how this battle can be won.

Daily Drivel – Mist

Hello! Today’s word is mist.
The mist moved in one Thursday morning with the temperature shifting from the day’s previous heat. To look at it, there was no difference to the weight and thickness of it; just like any other Autumn morning. Though the mist didn’t lift after an hour, or even two, and by lunchtime, people started to mutter and worry about it perhaps not going at all. The mist pressed in heavier, and deeper, stealing the breath of anyone trying to walk through. By the eveni...

Oblivious

“Have dinner with me tonight, Seth?” Ryan’s voice was hesitant even to his own ear, betraying the nervousness in the simplicity of his question. The clink of the mug of coffee against the table seemed unfairly loud when he put it down, leaving him wondering how he could even hear it over the blood rushing in his own ears.
Seth nodded without looking up, continuing to turn the pages of the heavy book laid out on the table at the same steady pace he had been doing for the past hour, curling his...
Daily Drivel – Bloom

Hello! The random word of the day is bloom.
The thing about first loves is that they stay in your thoughts, placed on some cognitive pedestal of whimsy and hope. They are rarely that special, full of acne scars, smudged college texts, or the relief of it finally happening for those so-called late bloomers. We don’t remember the mundane in between things, though can recall so easily all the moments that caused us stress. Waiting for the phone, the thrumming heartbeat of anticipating fi...
New/Old Ghost Story?
Morning, world, or at least, laptop screen; let me pretend there are actually people on the other side of this reading these things!
For June, Im posting a multi-chaptered story that will be over twenty posts, Monday to Friday. This is a ghost story of sorts, or rather ghost story meets road trip, and is a rewrite of an earlier story. It is a bit of a mishmash of a thing but I enjoyed writing it!
So, if that sounds even mildly interesting, keep an eye out!

Whatever Comes First

Matthew isn’t looking for a relationship. Ask him, and he’ll say it’s because between work and studying there’s just no time. Ask his best friend, Sarah, and the story is a little different and involves a failed relationship that left him raw.
Enter Joel, a childhood friend of Sarah’s recently back in the area. He’s not looking for love, either, but he’s not averse to the idea of a little fun. Uncomplicated and on the same page: what could possibly go wrong?

Garden
I cant write any more.
Youve wrenched the words right out of me
As though they were weeds:
Tugged out by roots
Until my soil bleeds.
I clung, fibrous tendrils digging firm,
Clutching at the straws of belief that told me this was natural.
Yet you shook me off like germ, parasite, blight;
Unwanted. Out of mind, out of sight.
Im not like stinging nettle,
Able to grow back from almost nothing,
Not when Ive spent so much time
Pretending this was something.
And I am no dandelion,
Standing tall and proud with a...

A Restless Heart
How are you feeling?
Tyler mumbled the question into the back of Xaviers neck as he felt him stir and begin to stretch against him. Xavier stiffened initially on hearing his voice, then tentatively slid his fingertips over the back of Tylers hand.
Better, I think.
You sure? Tyler asked, again into his neck, following it up with a kiss and splaying his hand wider over Xaviers stomach.
I am better for waking up with company, Xavier told him, quiet and honest. Tyler...

Kintsugi
You look at me as though I am broken
And you want to fix me with golden leaf,
Let it whisper into my cracks and crevices,
Restore me to something resembling belief.
I am not some clay-baked ancient pottery, scattered
Amongst the dirt, waiting to be restored.
I am no ember of a memory needing breath into existence,
To be held in fragile hands and then forever reassured.
I know. I am different now.
I bleed, I fail, I ache. But, I do heal.
You can keep fearing my departure, or crumbling,
But I am here...
