Things That Go Bump In The Night – Epilogue

Epilogue

“So? What are you thinking, huh, Travis? East? West? Head north, straight up to Canada?” Ryan asked, turning his head to find Travis smiling out at the view in front of them in quiet delight.

“I have no idea,” Travis laughed, shaking his head, and turning to Ryan with a look of sheer joy on his face as he shrugged.

“Can go anywhere you want.”

“I know,” Travis agreed, leaning over and pressing a kiss on Ryan’s shoulder. Ryan made a noise to stop him from moving back then ...

Things That Go Bump In The Night – Chapter 19

Chapter 19

“…are you taking a picture of me naked?”

Ryan heard first the camera shutter, then a soft laugh, and raised his head enough to turn an indignant, bleary eye on Travis stood to the side of the bed, the camera still held up to his face.

“If you want, I can say no,” Travis answered, taking another picture then gracefully crawling on to the bed between Ryan’s legs and settling comfortably on his knees, camera poised again.

“I don’t know how I feel about this,” Ryan said, a...

Daily Drivel – The Cave

Original post here

The depths of the cave called as welcome reprieve from the unrelenting midday sun. Flask empty and mouth dry, Kieren ambled over the rocky grass verge, fingers digging into brittle patches for support as he made his way down. His ankle twinged from an earlier stumble, and his neck was surely beacon-like for the steady, painful pulsing of his skin.

The cave air was blissful; damp, and cool. A trickle from its depths promised a taste of water that for so long pa...

Things That Go Bump In The Night – Chapter 18

Chapter 18

Ryan’s phone vibrating against the wood of the bedside table woke him from a dream, and he had to untangle his fingers from where Travis’ hand pressed them against his stomach to reach out and snag it up.

Ronan’s message of, we’re done here, speak later, had Ryan both relieved and suspicious, but he fired a quick message back and pushed the phone away again, turning in Travis’ arms and wriggling back to get comfortable in his warmth.

“Ronan?” Travis asked gruffly, wrappin...

Things That Go Bump In The Night – Chapter 17

Chapter 17

Ryan woke first in the morning, stirring to the feel of Travis pressed up snug behind him, and his fingers splayed out over his stomach. Ryan squeezed Travis’ fingers briefly before gently lifting his wrist to free himself, slipping out of the bed as quietly as possible to use the bathroom.

They’d gone to bed naked, having returned from dinner with Ronan to spend a long, long time in the shower, falling asleep almost immediately after an incredibly long day. So when he turne...

Daily Drivel – Torrent

Original post here

On a morning walk,

In the depths of green
Comes crashing a torrent of
Replenishing blue;

At least, it would be blue, were it not for the storm bringing bark and branch and brown in deluge to an otherwise peaceful scene. Beautiful, but also a warning that Nature came first and will claim all again.

Things That Go Bump In The Night – Chapter 16

Chapter 16

“I didn’t mean to make you angry.”

Ryan had known, even without looking, that when he heard the door creak open in the bar, it would be Travis coming in; though couldn’t bring himself to immediately lift his eyes from the table. Travis’ voice was gentle, full of contrition, and enough to have Ryan torn between instant forgiveness—as well as asking for forgiveness—and locking himself up tighter behind his walls.

“I know,” he said anyway, because he did, he understood what ...

Daily Drivel – A Rambling Overthinker

Original post here

To wade across, or to chance the slippery looking rocks placed there by some ancestral hand. That water couldn’t be that deep, surely; Eric watched a twig fall from an overhanging tree branch drift by where he stood, convinced that by monitoring its progress he could see into the murky water below. Though what if he was wrong? What if the water wasn’t ankle-deep, and stepping down from the uneven bank into the stream instead revealed it came up to a shin, or knee, o...

Why Did You?

Although I am not one to succumb to hopeless prayer,
My breath still catches at the thought of your footfall on the stairs.
You’d tower over me as I lay, unknowing, asleep,
Trace fingers up my exposed arm, coming to rest upon my cheek.
At your touch I would stir, and when my eyes fell upon you,
I’d think myself still slumber deep, not believe it was you.
But now, there are only ghosts in what was once our bedroom.
Our pillows gather cobwebs, as though they pad chambered tomb.
You succumbed to the de...
