new poem
ninja cell warriors
my friend and fellow poet
has gotten some notoriety of late
because she pissed off a bunch of catty women.
i think it would be
scary to be on the receiving end of that kind of vitriol
people just go crazy on the internet—
in prison we called it
ninja cell warrior—
that is
you talk massive shit
when you are safely locked in your cage,
but when the door opens,
you turn into a pussy.
on the internet,
everyone is safely locked in their cell
so they talk as much shit as they want.
personally, i always tell fuckheads
that if they want a piece of me
they’d better come get it in person.
i also have a personal motto
that has served me well:
i don’t respond to criticism,
only subpoenas.

New Poem: Confession
all of my novels
were written under
the influence of marijuana.
this is not an addiction,
this is a working method.
well, ok, maybe it is
an addiction,
but i figure
why fuck
with a good
thing?

J.A.Carter-Winward, new poetry & the importance of a good editor
I have been really fortunate to have the best poet out there today editing my new poems. J.A.Carter-Winward is amazing. I've never had an editor for my poems in the past & the difference between a poem she has edited and one she hasn't is like night and day. She can be brutal and unsparing in her criticism but she always makes the poem better. Trust is important between a writer and an editor. I trust her implicitly because she is such a fantastic writer. I feel truly blessed to have her on my side. My new poetry book, "Brawl At The Poets Cafe," will be my best poems yet, and that is due to her input.
Everyone should be reading J.A.Carter-Winward.

cover art
I am very lucky to have M.Wayne Miller, the artist who did the cover for my limited edition hardcover Chupacabra Chronicles (Black Voltage #46) by Thunderstorm Books, on board for the trade paperback series with Necro. Here is a link to the fantastic cover that Miller did for the Thunderstorm edition. I just saw some concept sketches for "Fury of the Chupacabras" and it is going to be just as cool.

what's ahead for 2016?
In March, the first in a series of four chupacabra novels will be released from Necro, with a new book dropping every six months until the whole series is available. And sometime in the spring I will be releasing my first new poetry book since Rusty String Quartet came out eleven yrs ago. The new book is entitled "Brawl At The Poets Cafe" and it will be released by Binary Press. There might even be some readings to promote the poetry book. Stay tuned. Enjoy!

moving on: poetry & prose
There will be more chupacabra books and more poetry books coming out in 2016. Stay tuned for more. Thanks to everyone who has posted a review here on this site. I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts & I am happy that most of you seem to enjoy what I am doing, whether it is poetry or prose. I realize that my two audiences rarely crossover; people who read monster books don't generally go in for poetry and vice versa. But thanks to all of you who have enjoyed something I have written. I need to get back to writing, it does my soul good. But life often gets in the way. Here is to moving forward, through all adversity. Cheers, everyone!

grieving
Must have my old crippled dog, Wiley Coyote, put to sleep today. Nothing too brilliant to say. I feel as if I've been gutted.
All I can do is quote Byron regarding the death of his beloved dog: "Near this Spot
are deposited the Remains of one
who possessed Beauty without Vanity,
Strength without Insolence,
Courage without Ferocity,
and all the virtues of Man without his Vices."

new poem
wiley coyote
came home from store
found old crippled dog of mine
thrashing about in a panic
up to his shoulders
in the backyard pond
I dropped the groceries
ran outside
stripped off my jacket
and plunged into the water
to haul him out
and no matter what else happens today
June 29th 2015
it is already a good day
because I came home
in time
to keep
my best friend
from drowning
