left with the dog
i can think
of no better honor
than to be entrusted
with the safety
of Maynard
the deaf dog
half Australian shepherd
half basset hound
no better companion to be found

grieving
Must have my old crippled dog, Wiley Coyote, put to sleep today. Nothing too brilliant to say. I feel as if I've been gutted.
All I can do is quote Byron regarding the death of his beloved dog: "Near this Spot
are deposited the Remains of one
who possessed Beauty without Vanity,
Strength without Insolence,
Courage without Ferocity,
and all the virtues of Man without his Vices."

Difference between Cats & Dogs
When the 1st dog & cat arrived in Heaven, they stood before God on His throne and the Lord asked the dog, “What qualities grant you a place at my side here in Heaven?”
And the dog replied, “I am steadfast, courageous, and loyal. And that is why I deserve a place beside you.”
God turned to the cat and asked, “What qualities give you the grace to sit beside me?”
The cat said, “I think you are sitting in my seat.”
