May's Writing Goals: a 100% Three Oranges-free blog post

I wanted to do a quick non-Three Oranges related update since it's been the TLOTO show around here for the past few weeks with all the stuff for the launch of the new edition.
Back on April 30th, I decided to try to use May to both catch-up AND get ahead on my word count in a challenge I dorkily called, "Where there's a will, there's a May!" which I will totally be using every year that I can because it cracks me up. To be caught up, I needed to write 76,000 words in May but I ...

The Love of Three Oranges New Acting Edition Cover

Lookie what I just go in the mail over the weekend:
Jelly?
You're looking at the cover of the brand new acting edition of the play available exclusively through Playscripts, Inc. This is a scan which actually makes it look a little darker then it really is. In person, it's a bright construction site orange. Very hard to miss.
On the plus side, if you are ever lost while hiking, a copy of The Love of Three Oranges will make it that much easier to flag down a helicopter!

What's different in the new version of The Love of Three Oranges?

Now that the new version of The Love of Three Oranges is street legal, you may be wondering what the difference is between Oranges: Classic and Oranges: New Hotness.
To start with, I'm going to let you in on a dirty little secret. There really isn't any such thing as the "original version" of my Three Oranges. To start with, we changed some of the script during the rehearsal process so the show the actors read at auditions and the final show that we performed were both...

Can a technophobic writer be successful in today's writing & publishing landscape?

Last year, I attended an interest meeting for the writer's group at my local library. I was hoping it would be like a year round NaNoWriMo: a bunch of people who like to write hanging around with laptops banging out words and taking occasional breaks to chat informally about craft. Unfortunately, it was nothing at all like that and, while there were some nice people there, they were on a very different writing path then I was so it really wasn't a good fit for me for a number ...

Did you know that 2011 is the 250th anniversary of Carlo Gozzi's The Love of Three Oranges?

I've had "2011 is the year of the orange!" written on the dry erase board above my desk for 2 years now so I wouldn't forget that 2011 marks the 250th anniversary of Carlo Gozzi's The Love of Three Oranges, the commedia dell'arte scenerio that both the Sergei Prokofiev opera (usually translated as The Love for Three Oranges) and my play are based on.
