Currently reading – A Book of Common Prayer, by Joan Didion. Born in 1934, Didion has been a reporter, novelist, and memoirist. She is best known for her memoir, The Year of Magical Thinking, about the deaths of her husband and daughter. This is a novel.

Currently reading – Omeros by Derek Walcott. Born in 1930, Sir Derek Alton Walcott was a Saint Lucian poet and playwright. He won the Nobel Prize in 1992 and died in 2017. This book is an 8,000 line epic poem mixing a critique of colonialism with classical myth.

Currently reading – The Garden Party and Other Stories by Katherine Mansfield. Mansfield was born in New Zealand in 1888, but moved to England at age nineteen. A bit of a rival to Virginia Woolf, who envied her, Mansfield died of tuberculosis in 1917 at age thirty-four.
