Contest is Over!

The Evil Summer contest is over, and I'm now in the process of sending out autographed copies of the book to the winners. If you lost, but still want a book, contact me directly. In the meantime, the first shipment is going off today!  Wish I had an intern to do this!  :p

Finality

Well, I got the final totally proofread copy of Crumbling Sky back today, and I've decided to just go with it instead of continue working on it.  To hell with it.  I realized my biggest problem with it is that it feels like a TV pilot more than a self-contained novel, but that's just the way it is, and I can't change that.  It's just the nature of the series. So that's it. I'll send it off to have the interior designed next, and that will be that.

I'm excited though. I feel like a lot of hard work is finally coming to fruition and I can't wait to get these books out there into the world.

Wonders of Women

It's so amazing how many men are frightened of strong women. I recently read this, Grant Morrison's new Wonderwoman comic, where he really gets into the meat of how a matriarchy would work, and it's endlessly fascinating. In Morrison's hands, this island is definitely no utopia, but of course neither is our own world. I know so many men who are "anti-feminist" and the same thing with women as well. Obviously feminism is complicated, and no one agrees on everything, but the vitriol going on these days is sickening. Now, the creator of wonder woman was a man who lived with two women, his wife, and another woman who slept with both of them, and he was fascinated by "sexual submission" -- see Wonder Woman's lasso of truth. If anybody on earth has ever been a feminist, this guy was.

Me and Gregg wrote our own feminist tome a couple years ago, "The Oldest War" -- about the battle between men and women -- and we're still rewriting it for eventual self-publication, and what's going through my head a terms like "mother capitalism", "maternal democracy", and Grant Morrison's term, "Loving authority".

Women are as human as men are, and I don't want to elevate them on a pedestal. But maybe we could use a little bit more maternal qualities in our civilization, where right wing gas bags complain about women wanting birth control while their television commercials advertise viagra and testosterone supplements....

Truth

I write for two reasons: because I have to, and because I want to be able to earn money to take care of my family by doing it. I don't care about prestige, I don't care about awards, I don't care about impressing my peers. I have no one I want to impress but myself. I think one of the reasons literary types so look down on self-publishing is because their greatest dream is to be elevated among their peers and "accepted" by the gate keepers and establishment.  Personally, I don't care about those people.  Like I said, I write because I have to write, and after that my most important concern is taking care of my family financially.  Everything else is bullshit.

Regarding My Batman Fan Fiction :)

I love writing Batman fan fiction.  I haven't written a lot of it, just two novella-length stories, but I plan on writing more.  But there's not much I can with it except share with friends.  But, I was thinking of including it with other books in mailers I send out for giveaways and when I sell autographed copies of other books.

I have plans for many Batman stories, many involving time travel of a sort. I love throwing him through time, it's so much fun. The story for the cover below takes place in medieval times, as Batman assists King Arthur.  I know.  Crazy.

yes, another glorious cover by the wonderful Gisela Pizzatto.

Early May Update

Well, "To Brave the Crumbling Sky: The Cardboard Spaceship" is pretty done, and is just sitting with my editor in the final proofread before I have the interior designed and get it ready to go.  Gonna do a new cover for it, something more professional and related to the book.  Kind of excited about that.

Have a new editor looking at "The Year I Slept".  I've been sitting on this for a year since I finished it, but I rewrote the ending last night and sent it off to the editor, and she's gonna help me get it into shape.  Don't know if I'll self publish this one or not.  Haven't decided.

Then the next project is cleaning up Crumbling Sky Volume 2, so I can send that to the first editor at the end of the year or earlier.

As far as new, real writing, I'm kind of thinking it's time to finish the Kalachthon or my fantasy novel, "Del and Huck".  Don't know which.
