Currently reading – New and Selected Poems Volume One, by Mary Oliver. Born in 1935, Oliver was an American poet and winner of the National Book Award and Pulitzer Prize. She died in 2019.

Currently reading – A Lesson Before Dying, by Ernest J. Gaines. Ernest James Gaines was an African-American writer born to Louisiana sharecroppers in 1933. This book is based on the true story of a young black man sentenced to death by electric chair in the 1940s. Gaines died in 2019.

Currently reading – My Antonia by Willa Cather. Born in 1873, Cather was known for her novels of frontier life on the Great Plains. This book is about pioneers in Nebraska at the end of the nineteenth century. Cather died in 1947.

Currently reading – Short Story Theory at a Crossroads edited by Susan Lohafer and Jo Ellyn Clarey. Had to order this used. Somebody highlighted the fuck out of it.

Currently reading – Pedro Paramo by Juan Rulfo. Born in 1917, Rulfo was a Mexican writer and photographer. While considered one of Mexico’s greatest writers (and an influence on Gabriel Garcia Marquez), Rulfo’s collected published works only add up to about 300 pages. He died in 1986.

Currently reading – The Leavers by Lisa Ko. This novel is about the disappearance of an undocumented Chinese woman working in New York City, leaving her 11 year old child abandoned.

Currently reading – Diary of an Oxygen Thief, by Anonymous. This short novel, by an anonymous Danish man, was sort of a self-published phenomenon about ten years ago. I was curious, so I picked it up.
