Interesting line in one of Szymborka’s poems. The Song of Songs is a book in the Bible, and is unique in that its subject matter is a celebration of sexual love. Believers claim it’s an allegory for the love of God or Israel, but…. really? It’s very famous and beautiful, but what Szymborska reminds us here is that even classic, ancient works of literature were WRITTEN, and had their inspirations and rewrites and edits. Nothing is created fully formed.
