Currently reading – Lost Girls, written by Alan Moore and illustrated by Melinda Gebbie. Written by the creator of Watchmen, this sexually explicit graphic novel features the erotic adventures of an elderly Alice (of Wonderland), an adult Wendy (Peter Pan), and Dorothy (of Oz). It came out in 2007, but I bought it and didn’t read it. I’m glad I got it at the time though, because I don’t think they make it in this huge, beautiful edition anymore.

Currently reading – To the Lighthouse, by Virginia Woolf. Born in 1882, Woolf was a titan of twentieth century literature, but her work can be demanding. However, she was an uncompromising artist and a passionate advocate for female writers. She died in 1941.

Currently reading – Shiloh & Other Stories by Bobbie Ann Mason. Born in 1940, Mason is a writer and critic from Kentucky. These stories were mentioned a lot in some books I read about short story theory, so I decided to read them myself. Pretty great so far!

Currently reading – A Stranger on Earth: The Life and Work of Anna Kavan. Born in 1901, Anna Kavan was a British aristocrat, heroin addict, and one of the great literary enigmas of the twentieth century. Most of the biographical information I have found about her conflicts with other sources. Anna Kavan wasn’t even her real name – it was Helen Woods. She stole the name “Anna Kavan” from a character in one of her own books. But she wanted to be a mystery, considered herself a fictional character. She and her work are endlessly strange.
