Of Adaptability...

The never-ending debate of who is superior, men or women, literally never ends. The fact that men hold the seed that creates life is one part of the equation. The fact that women have the womb to nurture it is the second. So if the seed that sparks life and the womb that grows it are both crucial for life to exist at all, then that automatically means that both men and women are equal and neither is superior to the other. Then we have the biological 'situation' where the female can asexually reproduce without the need for a male, at which point she creates a sort of 'young genetic clone' of herself that will then await a male in the future to come diversify her collection of genes. This harkens back to what Charles Darwin once wrote, 'those who survive are the ones who most accurately perceive their environment and successfully adapt to it'. In this regard, the female of a species has proven to be biologically more adaptable than the male.

A Probable Magick

A group of people believing intensely in something generates a sort of 'collective spell' that makes it real for them and others looking on. Call it an 'energy herd instinct', if you will. Could this be how we as Humans 'craft' reality? A possibility, perhaps? What about those who create spells so strong and are so skilled in doing it by themselves that we have called them throughout History as Wizards/Witches or Sorcerors/Sorceresses? What if they have crafted a 'collective spell' strong enough to keep us all ignorant of the existence of Magic? In Truth, every culture recorded some form of magical-religious practice, most of which has been lost over time. And all of these cultures were at some point not connected geographically or otherwise to even be able to come up with a 'similar' belief system that explores extra-terrestrial visitations, ahead-of-their-time knowledge and wisdom, and the still-undiscovered depths of Human Capability.

The Possible Bat-Secret

Does Batman not kill any of his 'Rogues Gallery' villains because he wants to keep them alive long enough to learn crucial 'Human Psyche' elements from them? Could it be that the "World's Greatest Detective" is keeping all his 'case studies' in one basket (Gotham/Arkham) so he can use his ingenuity to carry out a continuous series of studies/research that will help him discover the root of all criminal intent in Humankind? All so he can devise a bio-chemical way to eliminate crime altogether (on a genetic level) and usher in a world (next generation) free of crime and criminals? We know he'll go to any extent to do what is right, considering he safeguarded a handful of Kryptonite to take down Superman if he ever went rogue. And not to forget the way he crafted Plan-Bs for all Justice League members, including himself, in case any or all of them 'misused' their powers to the detriment of ordinary people. His need to eliminate crime starting at the root –as thoughts and intentions inside criminals' minds and hearts – is reasonable. After all, Batman's entire crime-fighting inspiration sources from his need to prevent others from suffering the same/similar loss as he did when he lost his parents to a shooting in an alley. The incident completely changed him, making him sacrifice a simple life for one spent in eternal darkness fighting crime and being ever-exposed to the cruel side of Humanity.

Business to Care...

For those who find it impossible to accept, let alone understand, that small drops make an ocean, here's the truth of it... Our present broken system and corrupt world -- filled with unfairness, illogic, pain, loss, disunity, and suffering -- is a result of billions of tiny little moments when tiny-minded people said, "It's not my business. I don't care." From the threat of war to the Climate Emergency... From racism to phobia of all kinds... From a mass communication loss despite access to superior communication tools... From the death of meaning to the besmirching of art... Billions of tiny-minded 'don't-care-not-ma-business' moments have resulted in an ocean of shattered possibilities. Perhaps the age has come to make it our business to care.

Someday...

It is so ridiculously easy these days to turn on the Wi-Fi and communicate with someone in an entirely different country, often separated by hundreds of thousands of miles and leagues of ocean. Someday perhaps an implant or tech will grant us the ability to turn on our 'Brain-Fi' and communicate with people via dreams. We might even be able to speak via clear video-calls to space-colonists hundreds of thousands of lightyears away in the galaxy. None of us reading this will be alive around that time. It's just nice to imagine a future where the Human Species thrives and carries on creating Art and innovating Science. Except for the part where we poison, burn, and kill everything everywhere we go. that part sucks.

An Archaeologist walked into a bar...

An Archaeologist walked into a bar. He showed his barkeep friend an ancient coin he'd found in an underwater ruin. It had old language written on both faces. He'd already deciphered the linguistics, and translated it for his curious barkeep buddy.

One coin-face displayed:
"To be indebted is to be helpless."

The coin's other face declared:
"To be helpless is to be indebted."

Before the evening waned, the Archaeologist was drunk and doubly confused. Meanwhile, his barkeep friend was so doubly confused he drank.

The Conundrum

It is in the fundamental nature of Human Beings to fix what is broken, resolve problems, and create great things. It is also in the fundamental nature of Human Beings to possess so many different ways to fix, resolve, and create that it often leads to division and conflict. Incredibly, and ironically, this disunity has resulted in a broken system with so many problems that Human Beings cannot fix, resolve, or create anew.

Confusions in a Café

Buddy 1: "What's this story you're writing, mate?"

Buddy 2: "How two random people falling in love is not the end of the world, in a world filled with economic uncertainties, climate emergency guarantees, and the imminent threat of another World War."

Buddy 3: "Sounds like the end to me, mate."

Buddy 4: "Sounds like the beginning of the end, if you ask me."

If Only...

A boy was screaming at the top of his voice as he ran across the fields. "The dam has broken, the waters have flooded the plantation, and it will be here any minute. We must flee for our lives!"

An old woman sitting on her porch in a rocking chair sipping tea smiled and muttered to herself, "If only I feared Death as deeply as you, little one. Life would be so much more convincing."

Youngest...Younger...Older...Oldest...

Odd how in our 30s and 40s we try to tell the younger generation all the ways they can avoid making the mistakes we did growing up. We try to guide them in every way we can to help them realize that they can save time and avoid making bad life-altering decisions. Then we look at the older generation, the ones in their 50s and 60s, who look at all of us and think 'Youth is wasted on the young.' The destructive cycle thus rolls: the oldest have lost faith in the younger, and the younger boldly yet mistakenly try to change the minds and hearts of the youngest, and the youngest meanwhile refuse to listen to the older and oldest and feel that singular sense of immortality and power that comes only with being oh-so-young and oh-so-naïve.
