Perspective...
Some call Death a gift and others say Life's a blessing. Well, one of them's wrong.

Staring...
They say when you stare into the Abyss, the Abyss stares back. Three guesses on who is going to win that cosmic staring contest.

The Proclamation...
A cloud of darkness enveloped the Earth and from it flowed a voice as thunder.
"You see before you the truth of your existence. All those who come before must pave the way for all those who come after. What the parents decide invariably affects the desires and destinies of their children. This is the future one has gifted the other, a legacy of uncertainty wreathed in lies."
The heavens toiled and rumbled as the waters engulfed the Earth.

Two Sides...
Sometimes, being useful and being truthful can be very different things.

Reincarnation...
Some ancient languages summon timeless sentiments. The belief in reincarnation can be found in something as simple as a farewell, particularly the one uttered in the South-Indian tongue of Tamizh. Here, people have distinct words for "I'll be gone/going", which is "போறேன்" ("Pohran/Poren"). And another often insisted-upon phrase "போய் வருகிறேன்" ("Poi Varugiren"), which roughly translated means "I will be going now, but I'll be back again later." That is, quintessentially, one of the most beautiful things about the Tamizh language. That second phrase not only contains a depth of meaning, especially in connection to reincarnation (going away in this lifetime only to return in a new one), it also speaks volumes about the Tamizh people who seem to have discovered something genuinely profound about what it means to be Human. And they did it many thousands of years ago.

Yes & No...
"How do you say 'yes' and 'no' at the same time but in an elaborate and mysterious way?" asked a drunk patron at the bar.
The barkeep replied, "Would you like another drink?"
A random man at the bar scoffed and said, "I don't know if he's right, but he isn't wrong."

Languages...
Languages, like human beings, seem to have a common 'ancestor'. Linguistic roots are not all that divided. They seem to burrow back to a single source. If we find a way to trace the branches of all our language trees, we may end up realizing they all have one thing in common. What that is, is yet to be known. Perhaps at one point each and every thing in existence was called by its own unique and undifferentiated name or word, and over time we found a galaxy of new words to name each and every thing in existence.

Genres...
Murder Mysteries and Romantic Comedies. Both artistic genres seem to be teasing us. Not all murders can remain mysteries, and everything about romance should make us laugh.

"Song of the Siren" Pie...
The pie: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiRrk...
Fictional Narrative
Mr. Mercott's Field Notes
"The mythical Siren is a primal creature, one capable of taking on half the guise of a human. Sometimes known to call out for help in the open seas, but more often renowned for singing an irresistible song to those who sail it, Sirens have drawn and drowned uncountable men as well as women.
"There must be a biochemical precedent for Sirens to even be able to achieve this. These deadly yet delightful creatures are as ancient as they are ruthless. Humans are, after all, mere prey in their eyes.
"Perhaps they evolved a way to create fleshy extensions or layers that would make these primal entities appear human, even beautiful, to us. My observations have let me to believe that these misunderstood but fatalistic creatures have evolved to harness a power that we humans have always been drawn to, Music.
"By tapping into select frequencies and pitches, Sirens can quite literally entrance and lure people to their doom. Once a human vessel has crashed upon the rocks, the Sirens revert to their true silent natures and predate upon the flesh, blood, and bones of the oh-so-tasty little humans they so easily hunted down.
"When it comes to the sea, mysteries still abound. I remain surprised how we know more about Outer Space than we do about Earth's oceans. An ancestral creature that can manipulate sound and flesh to attract and ensnare hapless humans is not impossible, just undiscovered. Or perhaps hidden, if our histories are anything to judge by.
"When a Tiger's roar has been studied and proven capable of paralyzing our muscles and limbs, it is only reasonable to believe that ancient creatures of such complex caliber as Sirens can sing us into similar submission.
"I must go now, go where even the most feared pirates dread to sail. I feel this strange inclination to obey the song, the sea, it calls to me, sings to me… With fluid limb and frozen mind do I go despite knowing deep down that my flesh will soon feed the Sirens, who with that same mouth sing to me in a voice as sweet and seductive as angels, but as hungry as the bloodied maws of demons."
Happy Halloween Month!
