San Jose and Steinbeck
Okay, so I'm all discombobulated time-wise. Right now I am at the most fabulous SCBWI Conference in Los Angeles, and will be writing about that soon. However, via my TIME MACHINE, this blog takes place during a recent visit to Northern California, which begs the question . . .

We do! We were there recently and visited Hicklebee's! Here's Peepy and I in the store, plus the gazillion author/illustrator autographs they've collected . . . on their doors and walls!!!...

Lisa Sees Cecil
Can you guess who Peepy and I saw recently? Hmmmm . . .
(Um, to avoid THIS CONFUSION, lemme just say that no, it's not Lisa See's Cecil or Lisa See Cecil, it's Lisa Sees Cecil.)
Yes! We went to our friend Cecil Castellucci's book signing for her TWO new books!!!!
There were lovely treats . . .

It was the MOST amazing bookstore/museum! Plus, they have customers with extremely great taste in books . . .

Hooray and Hurrah for Hicklebee's!!!!!!!
Oh man. When I was in San Jose recently, I went to the most marvelous magnificent indie bookstore . . .
Hicklebee's has been a local destination for over 30 years. And is it any wonder why? Just look . . .
Here's one of the owners, Valerie Lewis. She's showing Peepy the "museum" within the store, and an original and early Clifford drawing. (Of course, Peepy now wants a large portion of the store devoted to her.)
YES! In addition to books, Hicklebee's houses one-of-a-kind memento...

One Million Sold Per Year
There are some books that I read and reread, and each time learn to appreciate them more. TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD by Harper Lee is one of those books.
I recall first reading the novel when I was in high school and liking it. And then I remember the second time I read the book. I was in my early twenties and living in West Hollywood. I lived right down the street from the uber trendy Rainbow and the Whiskey and the Troudador. . .
Yet, when I picked up TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD, I was rooted firmly in...

Dining at Dino's with Delightful Dudes Who Draw
Erp. I'm still working on the copyedits of my new middle grade novel . . .
However, I took time out to travel to Dino's Pizza. Here's Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy telling some chick, "I really like you, and you're spunky and have that British accent and all, but I wish I was at Dino's Pizza with Lisa."
(I think that might be Dino that Peepy's talking to. However, the chef was shy and we couldn't hear what he was saying.)
The food was great, but the company was even better. LOOK! LOOK!!! We ran into...

The (R)Evolution of My Novel
I have a new book coming out in March 2011. Here's the exciting, thrilling, adventurous, pretty awesome true story of the (r)evolution of my novel. Or not. But regardless, here's how it came about.
It all began here . . .

So, after many careers, I tried my hand at being an author. And I loved it! I wrote these three books . . .
