www.lisayee.com and the iWeb Situation

Speaking of websites (let's pretend we were), there's this totally cool, or very hot, your choice, "social media site for the literary world." It's called RED ROOM, and guess what? RED ROOM named BOBBY VS. GIRLS (ACCIDENTALLY) their Book of the Day on Tuesday . . .

(Above: My author copies that came in the mail last week.)

Because I am not accomplished at screen grabs, I took a blurry photo of my computer as proof of the aforementioned Book of the Day statement . . .

To see a bigger photo(s) of...

BOBBY . . . COVER STORIES

Just a few days ago it was the launch of BOBBY VS. GIRLS (ACCIDENTALLY) and we revealed the Bobby website . . .

My friend and neighbor, Dan Santat, did a most magnificent marvelous job on the illustrations. Here's Dan thinking about stubborn water stains, static cling, and the book cover . . .

Dan worked on 10,003ish versions of the BOBBY cover . . .

You can CLICK HERE to see some of the early designs . . .

(There wasn't enough room to show the other 10,002 covers.)

Books and More Books and Bart's

. . . so then, after meeting MAD magazine's Sergio Aragones, we headed to the BIGGEST (mostly) open air bookstore in America, Bart's Books, and in Ojai . . .

They are open 24/7, sort of. There are tons of used books outside and after hours, you throw your moola through the slot. It's the honor system . . .

Oh! A digression. At the Ojai Library, they have an honor system bookcase outside. You can grab any book at any hour, read it, then return it to the shelf when you're done!

(Peeps looked fo...

Mad About MAD

This weekend, Peeps and I went to Nucleus Gallery in Alhambra . . .

She loved the stuffed animal art. I loved the that, and the incredible artwork. The last time we were at Nucleus , we saw Ronnie Del Carmen, the story supervisor for the Pixar movie UP . . .

Nucleus always bridges the gap between young and old. Speaking of which . . . when I was young, I was mad about Mad men. And no, I don't mean Don Draper, although I am mad about him, too.

(BTW, I used to be a Mad Woman. That is, I was an...

How to Traumatize a Newbery Winner and Your Esteemed Editor

Alrighty, then. When last spotted, Peepy was being mobbed by famous authors wanting their photo taken with her.

(Above: Peepy gives writing tips to Sherman Alexie)

The SCBWI Summer Conference had over 1,000 attendees + 1 Peep. As always, it is a monumental undertaking, but so totally worth it. It can change lives. It did for me when I first started going in the year 2000. So let's hear it for the amazing Lin Oliver and Stephen Mooser, the founders and gurus of this great organization . . .

Famous Authors Desperately Seeking Peepy

A year ago, we were here. And last blog, we were here, admiring famous illustrators and editors who we met/stalked at the SCBWI Summer Conference.

"But what about the famous authors," you ask. Well, yes, there were gazillions of them everywhere. And they all were thinking the exact same thing . . . "Where's Peepy?"

We'll begin with Holly Black author of the Spiderwick Chronicles and co-editor of Geektastic, Newbery winner Linda Sue Park, and Sid Fleischman Humor Awardee Donna Gephart . . .
