Skyping Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy

So, this past weekend I did my very first ever in the universe Skype Author Visit!!!

Skyping is where you sit in your office amidst the clutter/creativity . . .
Photobucket

. . . and talk to your computer and hope that someone on the other side of the world is listening . . .
Photobucket
(Oops. That's not a computer. No wonder it didn't work at first.)

Anyway, the Skyping whatchamacallit magically transports your face to a huge screen somewhere you are not or, in 99% of the cases, to the SCBWI San Francisco/South gro...

Historic Homes Make My Day

Well, despite walking the red carpet, Peepy did not win an Academy Award (again) this year. Nor did I . . .
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

Oh well.

Hey! So did you figure out the Jeopardy-esque question from my last blog? If not, here's the answer . . .

Photobucket

Yes! We visited John Steinbeck's house, plus another amazing historic residence, but more on that later. First this.

Peepy and I wanted to see the sights around the Monterey, the lettuce capital of the world. (Can you see Peepy?) And Peeps tried on giant cowboy hats . . .

Rotary Rocks, Gilroy Garlic, and Gotta Keep Reading

Last blog we were here . . .

Photobucket Photobucket

After talking to all the 6th graders in town, the next day Peepy was invited to speak at the Castroville Rotary Club, the group that sponsored our visit. As always, she made new friends . . .

Photobucket Photobucket

However, she ate too much at lunch and asked me to give a speech instead of her . . .
Photobucket

Here I am explaining the secrets of the Rosetta Stone, algebra, and why one sock always goes missing when you do the laundry . . .

That afternoon Peeps and I headed to the Castroville...

Harry Potter and the Order of the Artichoke

Wow, this time travel thing is pretty cool. I mean, it's in the 70s (temperature-wise) in sunny Southern California . . .
Photobucket

but now I am somewhere near Monterey, CA. Here's a hint . . .
Photobucket

And yet I am also still on the east coast . . .
Photobucket

Confused yet?

I know, I know, last blog we were just looking at my books . . .
Photobucket Photobucket

However, magically, time traveler-ishly***, I'm still in Massachusettes. Massachusetes. Masachusettes. MA. (Like a high wire artist, like an Olympic skier, I work without a net. Or, at ...

Speaking/looking of/at books, I recently did an interview with my good friend, author David LaRochelle. David's the genius who created this masterpiece . . .

Anyway, David blogs with nine other children's lit authors at One Potato . . . Ten . . .

(That's a styrofoam potato I am holding. I love fake food and, to the dismay of my family, keep it in the refrigerator.)

Here's a wedge of our potato-ish interview . . .

Peep Art, Best of the Best, and Write or Die

Through the magic of time travel, Peepy and Moi are still at the Smith College Museum of Art.

After checking out their tres chic restrooms . . .

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

. . . we returned to the galleries to check out the tres chic art. It was amazing how many of the famous artists incorporated Peepy into their paintings . . .

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Peeps was especially fond of the sculptures, and they were fond of her, too . . .

Super Fine (Art) Bathrooms

Last blog, we were hanging out with this dynamic duo . . .
Photobucket

Well, still in freezing Northampton, Peepy and I decided to pop into to the Smith College Museum of Art, get warm, and see the sights . . .
Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Soon enough, we needed to, uh . . . well, go to the restroom . . .
Photobucket

Would the bathroom here be as nice as the one we saw during our visit to the Eric Carle Museum? After all, that one had great tiles . . .
Photobucket

Hooray! The Smith College Museum woman's room was fabulous . . .

Lunch Lady Man, National Treasure, and Wayward Glove(s)

When last we blogged, Peepy and I were braving the f-f-f-f-f-f-reezing cold of Amherst, MA. However, it was so totally worth it because we got to visit the Eric Carle Museum . . .
Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

The next day we met up with the LUNCH LADY man . . . .
Photobucket

Oops! That's what he looked like the last time we saw him.

Here's the video-esque and super-talented-author-illiustrator Jarrett Krosoczka now . . .

The Very Frosty Peep

So then, Peepy and I made it to our super secret location. Were we at one of these places?

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Naw. But here's a hint. This is where we are staying . . .
Photobucket Photobucket

Figure it out yet? It is quite frosty where we are . . .
Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Yes! We are in Tahiti!!! Or, is it Amherst, MA?

Peeps wanted advice on her literary career, so she sought out our friend Printz Honor Winner Ellen Wittlinger . . .
Photobucket Photobucket

Ellen directed us to the most marvelous Eric Carle Museum . . .

Photobucket Photobucket Photobucket

Peeps created museum-quality arts and crafts . . .
