Lovely, Lovely Library
Hmmm . . . when we last left off, I was Dining with Dudes, including Bruce Hale.
Why Bruce? Because we were speaking at the MOST MARVELOUS Cerritos Public Library in California . . .
Here's Denise Doyen, Peeps and Moi, and Bruce . . .
It was fun acting silly at the Children's Authors Faire . . .
However, what was REALLY exciting was seeing this incredible library. It was built with sales tax dollars from nearby auto malls. Take a look.
Outside, there are fountains, a koi pond and a book bench . . .
Here's the Children's Department. I mean . . . WOW! That sky even changes and there are muted rainforest sounds to go along with the tree. And that dinosaur? It's a replica of Sue, you do know Sue, don't you?
Get a load of the Teen Zone . . .
Want to see more of the Cerritos Library? Here you go!
I don't know about you, but I'd love to live there!!!!
Here's the Wiki history of this $40 million library.
Oh, and don't forget, if you haven't entered yet, there's still time to win an autographed copy of BOBBY THE BRAVE (SOMETIMES)!
Check out the giveaway details at Goodreads. And ENTER TO WIN!

Dining with Dudes
One of the mucho benefits of being an author is that you get to hang out with other creative people. And one of the benefits of being Peepy's BFF is that she knows all the cool dudes . . .

Recently, we had a Hey-Dudes-COFFEE!!!-a-thon . . .
I've only now started drinking the stuff, and you know what? It's good!!!! Well, with LOTS of cream and several artificial sweeteners.
(Fun Fact: Lisa was once chased by a cow.)
There are soooo many benefits to COFFEE!!!
Anyway, our first Dude Dining/Coffee soiree was with this year's Sid Fleischman Humor Award Winner. Six years ago my book, MILLICENT MIN, GIRL GENIUS was awarded the first honor and it changed my life.
It was such fun gabbing with Allen Zadoff, author of GIRLS, FOOD AND OTHER THINGS I CAN'T HAVE, BUT I CAN HAVE COFFEE!!! WITH LISA AND PEEPY!!!! (Okay, I admit it. I altered the title a wee bit.)
Um, I'm not sure what they discussed, but obviously it was quite shocking. However, later, Allen and Peeps got everything squared away . . .
Next, it was a Dudes Who Can Draw Duo Birthday Breakfast with Other Dudes, Too . . .
That's Ken Min, Wilson Swain, Angelina Jolie playing the part of Lisa Yee, Peepy, and birthday-istas Dan Santat and Bob Boyle.
Peeps and her friend H. Hamburger cried over spilled milk. Later, Peepy drowned her sorrows with too much COFFEE!!!
The Dude Duo Birthday Boys thought her behavior was a bit wild for so early in the morning . . .
Then it was time for more COFFEE!!! This time with the Dude with the Hat . . .
Why, hey! Isn't that author Bruce Hale??? Doesn't he live in Santa Barbara? What was he doing in our arm of the woods? (Since everyone always says, "neck of the woods," I thought I'd be different.) Here's a hint . . .
Okay. Actually that photo doesn't have anything to do with Bruce, or where I was. You'll have
check out our NEXT BLOG to find out the answer to this HUGE MYSTERY!!!!
Say, whatcha going to do on Saturday? Why not run, drive or fly to Mrs. Nelson's Bookstore? I'll be there with other middle grade authors. CLICK HERE for more details.
Oh! And if you are interested in guys and books, there's this blog called Hot Guys Reading Books. (You're welcome.)
Speaking of guys and books, here's a guy book (or a girl book) for you. Yes! You can win an autographed copy of BOBBY THE BRAVE (SOMETIMES)??!!!?!!!

Seven Year Bookaversary
When I was a kid, it was my dream to become an author . . .
Seven years ago (well, officially on October 1, 2003), my dream came true.
Since then, I've been incredibly lucky. Here are some of the books I have in print . . .
Psst . . . can you find the book that's not out yet? Here's a hint . . .
WARP SPEED will debut on March 2011. It's about a Star Trek geek who gets beat up everyday at school.

Marley, the boy in the novel, was a minor character in STANFORD WONG FLUNKS BIG-TIME, and this book is a spin off of the MILLICENT MIN series.
Speaking of MILLICENT MIN, it was my very, very, very, very first book. I was discovered by Arthur Levine . . .
He pulled me out of the slush pile. That means, I didn't have an agent or know anyone in publishing, so I sent in a manuscript and he discovered me.
This is us having an editorial meeting in his New York office at Scholastic headquarters . . .
And here we are talking about BOBBY VS. GIRLS (ACCIDENTALLY) and BOBBY THE BRAVE (SOMETIMES) . . .
Arthur also is the man who brought HARRY POTTER to America, and is J.K. Rowling's editor.
Recently, Oprah had an international phenomenon, an incredible talent, and someone beloved my millions of readers, on her show. Yes, Peepy. Oh, and my (practically) best friend J.K. Rowling was on, too . . .
So cool that Peepy and J.K. were on Oprah's show. You can CLICK HERE to see clips of the show.
I've never been on it, but one of my books was once on Oprah . . .
BTW, want to win an autographed copy of BOBBY THE BRAVE (SOMETIMES)??!!!?!!!
Check out the giveaway details at Goodreads. And ENTER TO WIN!

From San Jose to San Marino and Beyond!
In order to take full advantage of our Time Machine, which we shall refer to as OTM, let's go back to San Jose . . .
Not only did we have fun Hiding at Hicklebee's bookstore, but we also went to the San Jose Farmer's Market. We have a wonderful one of our own at home, but it's nice to check out what the other farmers are up to (and to eat giant burritos) . . .
(The socks weren't grown by local farmers. The San Jose Flea Market/Farmers Market sells all kinds of things.)
Hey, that was fun! Now, let's get back into OTM and transport ourselves to the San Marino Toy and Book Shoppe . . .
Although we aren't able to make it to the South Pasadena Moon Festival this Sunday, we were there last year when BOBBY THE BRAVE (SOMETIMES) illustrator/neighbor/friend Dan Santat and Moi were given our own booth. It even included a kid reading a book . . .

(Above, OTM goes back a year for photos)
However, even though I won't be there, my books will be!!! Yes, Peepy and I signed books that will be for sale at the festival . . .
Peepy was exhausted after writing her name so many times . . .
So, you're wondering, where exactly will Lisa and Peep be this Saturday? Why, we'll be at the Cerritos Library!!!
Or if you don't live in the area (or even if you do), you can win an autographed copy of BOBBY THE BRAVE (SOMETIMES)??!!!?!!!
Check out the giveaway details at Goodreads. And ENTER TO WIN!
Wanna know more about the book? Here's a TOTALLY COOL review about The Bobby Series from GuysLitWire . . .
And finally, check out my I READ BANNED BOOKS bracelet! You can get one of your own by CLICKING HERE. (I own the Adult Sized Children's Bracelet.)

Bookin' with My MacBook BookBook
As some of you know, I have a Love/Hate relationship with my computer.
I LOVE it. It doesn't love me . . .
(Yes, I accidentally deleted ALL the spaces in an ENTIRE novel, and replaced them with the word "long." And then hit SAVE.)
However, that hasn't stopped me from wanting the best for my MacBook Pro, especially since I've accidentally really, really, hurt my Macs in the past.
Recently, I set out to find the perfect cover for it. I tried lots of different kinds . . .
Alas, nothing was good eno...

Pssst . . . We're Hiding Out in Hicklebee's!!!
Recently, Peepy and I were recruited for a Top Secret mission!!!
So we boarded our plane and headed to our destination. Uber librarian Nancy Pearl* (well, an article about her) was on the same flight. Imagine that!
(We love Nancy Pearl, and not just because she talked about MILLICENT MIN, GIRL GENIUS on NPR. I even own her librarian action figure, and you can, too!)
Where were we headed?

Oh Lord, She Rules
When we last left off, Peepy and Moi were eating ice cream in Northampton with our super-talented-good-looking-author-illustrator pals . . .
We're good at eating, it's something we do often, so next it was on to a literary lunch in Amherst!
I've met lots of people through blogging and through their books, so it was about time I met this Newbery Honor Award Winner in person!!!
Can you guess who it is by looking at this too small photo? Hint: The author is standing in front of the bookstore.

Emily Dickinson and Jeanne and Jarrett and Jon Hamm (Maybe)
Peepy and I were at O'Hare airport in Chicago recently and spied this scene. Who was the super-high security for?
Yes! It was for Peeps. Oh, and Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives, was there, too.
Where were we headed? Why, to Emily Dickinson territory -- Amherst, MA.
While there, we met up with our friend, National Book Awardian Jeanne Birdsall. She got on the phone and called Jon Hamm to meet us . . .
Sadly, Jon already had lunch plans, otherwise he would have come.

The Invention of Peepy Cabret . . . the Movie
Oh, la la . . via the magic of our time machine, Peepy est dan Paris. Still.
After touring Marie Antionette's petite village, Peep decided it was time to do two things she does well. Snack and shop.
We stopped off at a tres delicious chocolate establishment, and although we didn't have enough moola to get too much, we did manage one piece of chocolate each . . .

Peepy vs. Mona Lisa
Peepy's Parisian adventures continue. She felt it only fitting that she visit the shrine built for her. Yes, the Louvre . . .
One room in particular had a HUGE crowd. We wondered what that was all about, then realized that the crowd was to see Peepy!
It seems everyone was more interested in Peepy than this lady . . .
Feeling quite the popular gal, Peeps hopped up onto this pedestal for people to admire her . . .
