Holiday 2021 Williams Sonoma Events

Hi friends!

I’ve pulled down the holiday decorations, the new magazine is ready for you, and now it’s time to pack my bags and come see you! I have a small handful of pop ups at select Williams Sonoma stores this holiday season!

Meet me at Williams Sonoma (it’s totally free!) and we’ll make and eat Chocolate Neapolitan Cake!  We’ll also have copies of the magazine for sale and signing!

Tart Lemon Poppy Seed Bars

Tart Lemon Poppy Seed Bars

I know we’re entering the coziest months of autumn, but something about all these pumpkin breads and bowls of Halloween candy (someone come and take the Reeses Peanut Butter Cups AWAY FROM ME!) have me craving citrus of all things.  Something sweet but something with a tart bite.  Today, a lemon bars recipe with a hint of nuttiness and crunch (aka the poppy seed!).

Also, let it be know that I’m in testing mode for this year’s Christmas Cookie Tin and I’m fairly certain these little lemon squares will make the cut.

What’s For Dinner This Week

What’s For Dinner This Week

I’m trying to set myself up for success this week (the week before my first half marathon). By “success” I mean I’m trying to limit my popcorn-as-a-meal or tortilla-then-cookie-dough-dinner.  I wish that last dinner option was fictional, alas.  This week, I’m digging through the archives for my grocery list.  My weeknight dinners are usually one-pot meals that make great leftovers.  If you’re in the market for dinner inspiration, take a quick scroll.  Here’s what’s for dinner this week starting with my Dad’s One-Pot Hawaiian Chicken.

Let It Be Sunday, 344!

Let It Be Sunday, 344!

Hello friends. It’s SUNDAY!

This week I’m thinking about little gifts.  I was chatting with my friend Trevor on the phone about how we’re going to shoot an upcoming live tv segment.  All business – but before we got off the phone Trevor says, hey I have a song I want you to listen to.  He sent me this Henry Mancini song and said he heard it and was sharing it with everyone he connected with that day.

Black and White Pumpkin Cake

Black and White Pumpkin Cake

Each week this fall we’ll revisit a recipe from last year’s Joy the Baker Magazine with new tips, tricks and insights.  The latest issue of my holiday magazine is available for pre-order here (!!!) and will hit grocery store shelves nationwide (and in Canada!) November 1st!  This week, let’s make Pumpkin Black and White Cake.  This pumpkin cake recipe is an homage to my very favorite cookie made even more perfect for the autumn season.

One-Pot Greek Oregano Chicken

One-Pot Greek Oregano Chicken

I hope you have at least one Greek friend.  With one good Greek friend you’ll know that whatever you’re cooking needs more olive oil and whatever you’re working on, well you should stop to relax by the sea.  My dear friend Anastasia is my Greek friend.  She also happens to give the most incredible culinary tours of Greece. I know because a few year ago we fried eggs in several inches of olive oil over a fire we built ourselves in our pajamas in a house on a cliff overlooking the actual SEA.

Let It Be Sunday, 343!

Let It Be Sunday, 343!

I’ve handed our Sunday links over to our friend Toby Lowenfels.  Please enjoy!

——————–

Hello, friends!
It’s Toby again and I’m so happy to be here. Many thanks to Joy for inviting me back.

Let me tell you something that I do: read a piece of clickbait titled, “10 Foods to Brighten Your Mood” and see pistachios on the list. Buy a bag of pistachios (shelled, lightly salted) then sprinkle a handful on my lunch salad.

Let It Be Sunday, 342!

Let It Be Sunday, 342!

Hello dear friends.  Let’s Sunday!

I have a total of 51 FIFTY ONE tabs open on my computer browser as we speak. It’s mad.  The tabs are a mixture of projects I’m hopeful for (tissue paper dying and paper marbling), shared google docs and calendars and analytics and email.  The tabs reflect my stress over the current Supreme Court and its calendar of cases this year.  The open tabs reflect my need for banana pancakes at breakfast, new Adele, and a question swirling around in my head:  is our desire to continue to pull apart Anthony Bourdain’s life part of our grief?

The 8 Best Pumpkin Recipes For Fall

The 8 Best Pumpkin Recipes For Fall

I just got off  a video call with a friend in Connecticut. She gave me a tour of her PORCH PUMPKINS and wow, friends. I’d like to congratulation each and every one of you who has porch enough for pumpkins.  It’s a lifestyle.  And I hear that pumpkin are $8 each at Trader Joe’s?  Listen… I don’t know if that’s a deal or not but your porches are pumpkin stacked and precious.  So far, the only pumpkins I’ve bought this year have been canned, but I’m working my way up to real deal gourds.
