Browned Butter Oatmeal Apple Cookies

Browned Butter Oatmeal Apple Cookies

Hi sweet friends.  The calendar flipped to September without me really being able to wrap my mind around it. Here we are;  Time waits for no one.  With the flip into September we spiritually have to set aside our watermelon wedges (noooo, not yet!) and reach for the apples and cinnamon (honestly, not a bad consolation).  I can handle it if this switch involves oatmeal cookies with browned butter. I mean, with those words alone, summer is fading into the distance.

New Orleans Style BBQ Shrimp

New Orleans Style BBQ Shrimp

Each week this fall we’ll revisit a recipe from last year’s Joy the Baker Magazine with new tips, tricks and insights.  The latest issue of my holiday magazine will hit grocery store shelves nationwide (and in Canada!) November 1st!  This week, let’s make New Orleans Style BBQ Shrimp, which since moving to the south, has become one of my dinner table secret weapons.

To be fair, New Orleans Style BBQ Shrimp isn’t really barbecued at all.

Let It Be Sunday, 338!

Let It Be Sunday, 338!

Hello, friends! It’s your girl, reporting live from a new TJMaxx jumpsuit  in a friend’s dining room in Houston, TX. Turns out the tiny bag of motorcycle clothes doesn’t translate well into life as a hurricane evacuee but thank goodness for a debit card and a discount store.

Welcome to another fine Sunday in the world.

This week so many of us got blown around and flooded by Madame Hurricane Ida, and wow she was a doozy.

Let It Be Sunday, 336!

Let It Be Sunday, 336!

Hello friends! Happy Sunday from your favorite baker on the back of a motorcycle. I’m in Northern California with Will at my family reunion. We have too much food and more water guns than people it’s all going really well  my heart is full up.

This week’s Sunday reads come from my dear friend Toby Lowenfels. Toby loves love and sends a Valentine’s Day card of her sweet three children every year.

Let It Be Sunday, 335!

Let It Be Sunday, 335!

Hello dear friends!

It’s been one of those long long short weeks. Time expanded to fit in a trip to Los Angeles this week to celebrate the life of my dad’s oldest sister, my Aunt Cordellia. Dea, as we all called her, was the most regal, generous, and low-key hilarious aunt.  We celebrated life and mourned her passing with a small family gathering, so much fried chicken, and told stories she would have said “Oh you all, hush” to.  It was just sweet to be together.

Today I’m packing for my two week motorcycle trip with Will.  We’ll be riding up and across California, making our way back across the states to Oklahoma and Texas depending on how the fires and air quality moves us.  I’m hydrating.  That feels essential.

Small Batch Chocolate Cupcakes

Small Batch Chocolate Cupcakes

Just peeking my head in here. I know we’re in the absolute dog days of August. We’re at the beach (God willing). We’re eating ice cream with the freezer open. We are most certainly not wearing pants. We are walking on the shady side of the street when we venture out. We are prone and sweating and it will be Autumn soon I promise we’ll be talking about pumpkin spice everything like… tomorrow.  Today, it’s just me peeking my head around your kitchen door because I think you might need this recipe for small batch chocolate cupcakes.  These little gems will likely require zero trips to the store (win), especially if you’re one of those well-intending humans who has a beet or two in the crisper to eat for your very own health and well being.

Let It Be Sunday, 334!

Let It Be Sunday, 334!

Hello friends!

Happy Sunday! How are you this morning? I hope you’re riding this latest delta wave of the panini as best you can. It’s all just exasperating and I hope that everyone you love is staying well.

I’m trying to enjoy these slow summer days. There’s a sweetness to the way New Orleans slows during the steamiest days of the year.  You couldn’t put on your hurry even if you wanted to.

Battered Banana Pancakes

Battered Banana Pancakes

I’ve got weekend plans… well, plans for the bananas sitting at the top of your fruit bowl.  We’re not going to let them languish like we usually do for banana bread or those Almond Flour Banana Bread Cookies we love so much. No… these bananas have a perfectly-ripe breakfast calling: banana pancakes!  Not just any banana pancakes – we’re dredging sliced bananas in pancake batter and cooking like little coins.  Tiny banana stuffed pancakes?

Let It Be Sunday, 333!

Let It Be Sunday, 333!

Hello friends! Welcome to Sunday!

I was lucky enough to spend most of my week at a fancy pool in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico with two dear girlfriends who also turned 40 this summer.  For years Whitney, Dean, and I called ourselves the DeCadillac sister after a silly and mildly boozy night in New Orleans when we made up posh alter-egos. My name is Claudette DeCadillac and she can mostly only be found on vacation ordering more tacos and a her second margarita.
