Cucumber Cilantro Margarita
Hello friends! Are you ready for a little summer weekending? I’m just getting back from a few days in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco and I’ve settled on this very important fact – the hotter the weather the better the margarita tastes. With that in mind, in these very dog days of summer, I bring you the Cucumber Margarita.
I like my margaritas so bright and sour they just about make my whole face pucker. Lots of lime with just a sweetness.

Let It Be Sunday, 332!
Hello friends. Welcome to another fine Sunday!
As you read this I’ll be on my way to Puerto Vallarta Mexico for a short trip with my friends Whitney and Dean. The three of us turned 40 this summer and we’re all going to Mexico about it. I hope to cross surfing off this year’s Summer Bucket List and if what I attempt is less that surfing then I’ll just change that part of the list from “Surfing in Mexico” to “Choking on the Pacific in Mexico”. I’ll take it as it comes.
This week was spent cycling through working, running, sweating, managing, emailing, hydrating, and just generally fussing with this little summer life. I made Twelve Cupcakes with One Stick of Butter for no / every reason. I stand by that decision.
I hope this finds you with a lot to look forward to today. Enjoy it all.

Easy Watermelon Feta and Cucumber Salad
It’s so hot all I can eat these days is watermelon salad.
Well… watermelon and anything smoothie like, and whatever leftovers I have cold from the fridge… but mostly just watermelon salad.
I’ve done most of my watermelon eating this summer in the car between New Orleans and Houston. A little summer road trip always calls for a passenger seat full of snacks, including, but not limited, to a giant container of cold cubbed watermelon. Only once did that container fly to the passenger seat floor when I had to unexpectedly hit the brakes.

Let It Be Sunday, 331!
Friends, it’s Sunday! Feels good, doesn’t it?
How has your week been? I hope you’ve been vacationing – I feel like everyone has been vacationing.
This week, in the small work of living this life, I committed to eating the food from my fridge and pantry instead of grocery shopping. I have so much food in my pantry that I either don’t see or just ignore and instead of piling more food inside, I’ve cooked from the pantry all week. That means lots of lentils and canned beans, and I’ve pat myself on the back for using a jar of harissa I bought last year. Small stuff- I know.
I also happened to have chocolate chips in the pantry and you can guess how that went.
I hope you’re able to relax today. Take a few moments here. Here’s what I read this week, an offering:
• This won’t make you feel better about anything but I think you should read it anyway: A Haunting New Documentary About Anthony Bourdain (The New Yorker)
• I either meant to watch 20 Feet From Stardom when it came out or I sorely need a rewatch.

Tomato Pie with Blue Cheese Biscuits
It’s tomato season which means it’s time to eat cherry tomatoes like they’re candy AND it’s high time for tomato pie! My version of tomato pie is more of a tomato cobbler- super simple, topped with buttermilk blue cheese biscuits.
Just last week my big sister Launa sent me a very urgent overnight package. Inside were vegetables fresh from her garden, lovingly washed and wrapped in in towels and bubble wrap (which made me laugh because lol green beans are fragile!). The most beautiful of her generous offering was the golden beet, an incredible artichoke, a few curly English cucumbers, a pale mint green patty pan squash, and the most lovely little tomatoes. I think I just described everything… it was all perfectly lovely.
The tomatoes sparked a reminder of this fine tomato pie recipe – knowing that some of you have literal bushes of cherry tomato plants that hang heavy with fruit this time of year. My sister’s tomatoes didn’t make it to the pie.

Let It Be Sunday, 330!
Hello dear friends, happy Sunday!
It’s dinnertime on Saturday night and somehow I have popcorn popping on the stove. It seemed easier than microwaving leftover from two nights ago but in reality the popcorn will just be more fun to eat. I’ll find myself rummaging in the fridge for Second Dinner leftovers in about two hours, to be sure.
Tron likes popcorn, too. He gives me a paw as a reminder. I blow off the salt and seasoning and give him a few pieces as we go.
The week after a short summer vacation is hard to get into.

Let It Be Sunday, 329!
Hello dear friends! Happy 4th of July weekend! I love this particular weekend of the year. It feels like we’re smack dab in the middle of summer with way fewer urgent Friday emails and more Mondays off.
This week my heart has been with everyone affected my the condo collapse in Florida. It’s just the scariest thing when the unfathomable becomes our reality. I don’t know what more to say about it, but it’s been on my mind nonstop.
I’m headed off for a weekend camping trip in Jasper Texas.

Summer Bucket List, 2021
I’m a little behind schedule this year but friends, the Summer Bucket List is HERE! Just in time for a 4th of July weekend camping trip (don’t be too jealous, I’ll be in the Louisiana rain) and an attitude that’s eased into the heat and humidity.
This marks the sixth summer I’ve shared my summer list with you and the first list mostly post pandemic so – let’s really go for it. By “go for it” I mean get out of the dang house and enjoy it all the way.
If you need a little reminder about how to live the very best summer, here’s a refresh.

Let It Be Sunday, 328!
Hello friends.
Welcome to a Sunday together!
I’ve been in a flurry this week shooting the last of the images for the holiday magazine which means I’ve had more bundt cakes in this home than is normal for any non-bakery building. These are sweet little egg nog bundt cakes made with my favorite small bundt pans which means I can bake TWO impressive little cakes from one batch of batter. It’s the little things that thrill me.
Honestly, at the start of the week I wondered if where I’d find the energy to make it through.

The Top 6 Summer Reading Recommendations of 2021
Hello friends!
I’ve gotten a month into these thick summer days without one of my very favorite summer activities: relaxing with a juicy beach read under an umbrella with a spritz. I looked up from my Christmas-in-June haze and realized that I don’t even know what beach read I’m reaching for!
Thank goodness for you. Your suggestions on Instagram were key – and so many of you suggested the same six books. I’m glad y’all are on the same page.
