Weeknight Skillet Lasagna with Kale and Artichoke

Weeknight Skillet Lasagna with Kale and Artichoke

I pride myself on having a few different love languages. Of course they all revolve around me feeding the people I love and while that may be downright annoying for someone say, sick with the flu, I’m ok with it –  everyone is hungry eventually.

One of my love languages is pie, usually chicken pot

Cookies are a love language language among us Wilson’s, specifically Dad’s perfect chocolate chip.

A few quality recipes in the ol’ back pocket are a cheap, but very loving party trick.

Pasta is the love language I employ to show love to myveryself.

Let It Be Sunday, 327!

Let It Be Sunday, 327!

Hello friends!

Things I’m thankful for this week include:

These moody New Orleans summer days with their fluffy humid clouds, pink sunsets, and still steamy summer evening river walks. Well earned yoga savasana on my own hardwood floors. The Christmas tree I’ve had lit every night for the past two weeks and the homemade egg nog I enjoyed next to it last night. The small crew of creative people who have come into my house the past two weeks to bring the next magazine and our Bakehouse workshops to life.  I swing The Bakehouse doors open and it means so much to me that people bring their smiles and positive energy to our work together.

Let It Be Sunday, 326!

Let It Be Sunday, 326!

Hello dear friends!

Welcome to (somehow) a Sunday in the middle of June. I swear the last time I blinked it was February and yet… here we are.

We have officially passed the point of no return in New Orleans. It’s swampass summer and that’s that on that. There’s no beating around that bush.

Over here in Holiday Magazine Land I don’t seem to have enough hours in the day or enough butter in the fridge but Tron has taken to lounging under the decorated Christmas tree so at least one of us has it sorted correctly.

I truly CANNOT wait for you to see the next magazine.

Frozen Pimm’s Cups

Frozen Pimm’s Cups

I’ve been a board certified adult for a few years (if not a few decades) now and can tell you a handful of things for certain.

Adulthood comes with certain small joys that you simply don’t appreciate as a not adult. One of those small joys is having whatevertheheck you want for dinner.  My favorite whatevertheheck I want dinner is a bowlful of marinated olives and a hardboiled egg which happens to be what sits in front of me as I type this.  With a glass of wine and my bowl of olives I can’t help but consider myself RICH in good decisions.

Another small joy (and really, we’ll take em where we can get em) is a boozy blended summer cocktail – and yes, it’s time friends!  A drink reminiscent of convenience store slurpees with a little kick, and a fruit salad to boot.

Let It Be Sunday, 325!

Let It Be Sunday, 325!

Hello friends!  Happy Sunday to you!

Can you believe this is the first Sunday in June!? In my heart and body I’m somewhere between Thanksgiving dinner rolls and a sunburn. I’m working hard hard hard on the next Joy the Baker holiday magazine which means ALL of my baking lately is pumpkin or peppermint or Italian Christmas cookies when all I want to be doing is sipping frozen margaritas by a pool.

Let It Be Sunday, 324!

Let It Be Sunday, 324!

Hello, friends!

I hope this finds you happy, well, healthy, energized.

I’m taking a week of from my Let It Be Sunday offerings. I’m spending the weekend celebrating my birthday with Will, his family, my parents, and our friends. It’s my favorite weekend of the year and the unofficial start to summer and I plan to be fully in it.

The offering this week is a podcast episode of This American Life: The Daily.  What’s your daily prayer, exercise, offering?

The Easiest Strawberry Blueberry Browned Butter Cobbler

The Easiest Strawberry Blueberry Browned Butter Cobbler

Welcome to cobbler season!

It’s that time of year when we put the best of summer’s fruit into a buttered baking dish, top it with any sort of buttered crumble and bake it until everything browns and bubbles.

There are about a millions ways to cobbler and this is my favorite of the unfussy versions.

My dad recently sent me a family heirloom – his mother Drucilla’s double-crusted peach cobbler – a MEGA cobbler of buttery crust and peeled peaches.

Let It Be Sunday, 323!

Let It Be Sunday, 323!

Hello dear friends! Happy Sunday!

I’m feeling very much under the weather this week. Gosh as soon as I whipped that mask off I caught a nasty cold.  It’s downright silly how debilitating a common cold can be and I’ve been trying to force myself to work through it which… well it hasn’t served me. Denial doesn’t seem to be working.

I’ll be better by Monday is what I’ve told myself.

How does this week find you?

The offering this week is below.

Thoughts From Birthdays Past

Thoughts From Birthdays Past

The jasmine, gardenias, and magnolias are in bloom here in New Orleans. It’s a rainy but generous spring.

The jasmine reminds me of the nights in California. Gardenias remind me of my grandmother, as she’d clip them from her garden and float them in a bowl on the living room table.  Honestly, I think it was camellias she clipped and floated, but I’ve conflated gardenias and camellias so often that in my brain that gardenias remind me of Grandmother too.  Magnolias are my favorite flower.

Let It Be Sunday, 322!

Let It Be Sunday, 322!

Hello friends, happy Sunday!

This week I’ve felt very grateful. Grateful that my parents are able to celebrate my birthday with me in Houston in a few weeks. Grateful for work opportunities that keep me super busy (I’m working on another Joy the Baker Holiday Magazine!). Grateful for a backyard to pitz around in this beautiful spring! Just… feeling up to my neck in life stuff but thankful for all of it.

I taught my second in-person, fully vaxxed Bakehouse class this week.
