Halloween Sugar Cookie Recipe

Halloween Sugar Cookie Recipe

I have to admit, I’m not a Halloween person.  I’m not one for the blood and bones and tombstones.  Those GIANT SPIDERS people are putting on their houses just about send me into an arachnophobic panic.  Don’t get me wrong – I love to dress up. I’m just not good with all the spooks or appetizers that resemble severed fingers. This year, I’m getting into the holiday spirit the as best I can.

Let It Be Sunday, 341!

Let It Be Sunday, 341!

Hello friends!

It’s Sunday, how ya feelin’? Actually don’t answer that until you’re up and you have a cup of coffee and your slippers on.  It’s slipper season.

This week I’ve gathered myself to stand up and tall and work my whole butt off for the rest of the year.  Not only is it slipper season but it’s also food season and… well, you know by now that food is what we do around here.

The 10 Best Things To Bake In October

The 10 Best Things To Bake In October

Friends, hello!  I don’t know about you but I am absolutely counting the days until October. I don’t know exactly why.  September is a lovely month of transition. But October! October means we can lean all the way into apples and browned butter and Halloween candy (so so many fun-size Snickers, please), and I can start to work through my canned pumpkin hoard.  Here are the 10 best things to bake in October.

Dede’s Ararby Spice Cake Recipe

Dede’s Ararby Spice Cake Recipe

Today marks an important holiday for the Wilson family!  It’s Aunt Dede’s birthday!  Aunt Dede was my dad’s sister, the baker of every family birthday cake for as long as she lived, and the patron saint of The Bakehouse.  Today we’re celebrating Dede’s birthday and celebrating the ever present smile on her face with Dede’s Araby Spice Cake recipe.

Dede had a few tried and true recipes that we still hold dear.

Let It Be Sunday, 340!

Let It Be Sunday, 340!

Hello dear friends!  Another fine Sunday! What good fortune.

I hope this finds you well. I hope this finds you cozy  because here we are in the coziest season of the year.  Yes. It’s almost almost time to start thinking about sweaters and I am READY.  I’m ready for sweaters up until the exact moment that I’m ready for summer again. It won’t be long into our chilly New Orleans winter that I’ll secretly wish back the heat and humidity.

Lasagna Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Lasagna Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Let that thermometer drop a few three degrees and you’ll find me inside (with the air conditioning still on) in a sweater, with a cozy sandwich to match. Yes that is correct. The calendar reads fall and the forecast calls for Lasagna Grilled Cheese Sandwiches.

It’s not often (read: never) that I make myself an entire pan of lasagna.  I know it’s certainly what Tron (read: my own personal Garfield) would like, but an entire pan of lasagna just feels like a daunting amount of leftovers.

Let It Be Sunday, 339!

Let It Be Sunday, 339!

Friends! Hello and happy Sunday!

I’m back at The Bakehouse in New Orleans.  Will drove Tron and me back from Houston last Saturday. The drive was smooth, Tron settled in, I rested my eyes.  As we neared New Orleans, the trees along the freeway were roughly sheered in half. You could see the fury of the storm.  Power is back in most of New Orleans but echos of the hurricane (and so much rain) still remain.
