Dear Aspiring Occult Author

Dear Aspiring Occult Author,

Thank you for writing to me. You’re the fifth aspiring occult author I’ve heard from this week. There certainly are a lot of you. Let me answer your questions in the same order in which you asked them.

1. You want to know which of my Daemonolatrytitles makes me the most money and I totally understand that it’s a research question. But let me be clear for a moment — the money should be the LAST thing you are concerned with. One doesn’t write esoteric books for mone...

Review: Nuance’s Dragon Naturally Speaking

headsetEver since I began using dictation software, I’ve had a ton of people come to me and ask how I like it. So I figured I should probably review it in my blog, and actually use the dictation software to write the blog post.

So the software I’m using is called Dragon Naturally Speaking. You’ve probably seen commercials for it on television. Just a tip, you can get it cheaper online directly from the manufacturer as opposed to in the store or off the television. Like 25 bucks cheaper.

Now it’s tim...

Write Which Way?

Since I often find myself being asked which word processing software I use, let’s talk about writing and word processing programs. One would think that all word processing programs are created equal. That Open Office and Word Perfect arejust as good as MS Word, or that your OS’s included text editor isjust as good as Scrivener – and if you’re a hobby writer (i.e. you make no income from your writing whatsoever), this is probably true.

In the professional writing world though – there are Scriv...

Book Collection

I am often asked about my occult book collection. It’s large enough. No, it’s not exclusively full of limited edition hardcovers or too much collection worthy. In fact, a lot of it is relatively standard. I keep everything I purchase, no matter how awful, just so the coven has access if anything. I keep these booksin the temple for easy access. So here are some pics of my collection. There are over 100 occult titles here.

The Introvert Writer at Conferences & Conventions

I am an introvert. I have discussed my introversion previously in this post. Today I read a blog postby fellow introvert writer Ashley Hodges that gives tips to fellow introverts who want to attend writers’ conferences.I kind of have a unique take on conferences and conventions. I did quite a few of them back in the mid 2000’s. There’s a reason I haven’t done many since.

Heradvice is probably great if no one knows who you are and you’re not formally speaking at the con. But for those of us wr...

F*ing Unicorns

pink unicornEveryone’s always asking what is up with the unicorns. There’s an anecdotebehindall the unicorn goodness that goes on over on myFB page, and even in my fiction. It goes a little something like this:

Years ago I was actively submitting short fiction to professional science fiction and fantasy magazines. For the most part, I had finally graduated past generic form rejection letters and found myself consistently getting personalized rejections with private notes from editors asking me to send mo...

2015 Garden – The Plan

10489647_343510935797291_121802554198688569_nIt’s that time of year again. Another ominous blog title heralds that spring has sprung, I’ve taken an inventory of seeds, and my garden plans are underway. I usually have grand, overly-ambitious plans every year, and only about 1/3 of theplan ever manifests into the actual garden whether I ranout of time, got lazy, or something just wouldn’t grow.

This year is no different. I have a million and one plants I want to try and a lot of what will actually be growing in the garden this year will b...
