Steph’s List of the Best Genre Books of 2015
Okay – so the truth is I’ve only read about 37 books so far this year, and only some of them were published in 2015 (about 10 of them), but hear me out. Read to the end because I have an idea. After reading some of the vapid “Best of 2015” book lists from the New York Times, I found myself nodding off and thinking to myself — I wouldn’t have picked up any one of these books on my own. Who writes these lists? Anal retentive literary snobs?
Because I mostly read genre stuff (with some literatur...

Why the Occulture is Poison to Magicians
Last night after I shared an excerpt of my forthcoming novel, a fellow magick practitioner decided to rip me a new one for my Ascending Darkness cover. First, you should probably know the cover depicts a pentacle of Mercury atop the Chaote symbol. So the critic basically told me that my cover artist was horrific because my cover showed ignorance of occult symbolism. Then she berated me by telling me that I, as the author, was just as guilty of ignorance for allowing it. I responded by telling...

Daemonolater’s Guide to Sex, Money, and Power
This booklet wasn’t something I took lightly to writing. I wrote it in response to the growing number of people (most of them Christians) who contact me expecting that for $50, I can make Satan and the Daemonic bring them sex, money, and power. It was a similar issue with my book Daemonic Pacts. So I was like, “Okay, the Daemonic can help with these things, but not in the way most ignorant people think. As sad as it may be, this booklet is actually needed.”
Alas – Sex, Money, and Power was bo...

Productivity For Writers – A Few Changes That Can Increase Your Productivity
As I contemplate and research a writer productivity and scheduling workshop I’m hoping to teach next year at the RMFW conference (maybe even as a YouTube video if they decide they aren’t interested in my proposal) I wanted to share a few things I’ve found helpful to boost my productivity, and I want to share a powerful quote from another productivity expert because it had a profound impact on me. If you’re as serious about being a productive, prolific writer like I am, these things might help...

Called To A Creative Life – Manifesting Your Will
One of my earliest memories is of sitting on the couch with my mom as she read me a book. I was only four, but the memory is so vivid that I’m pretty sure that was the exact moment I fell in love with reading. By the time I was eight, when my nose wasn’t in a book, I was penning and illustrating my own short stories, and by ten, I had penned (on loose leaf notebook paper, front and back) over 100 pages of a novel about a girl and her horse. I was a closeted writer back then. The only people I...

Marketing 101 – For New Writers
Okay, yes, I know. I said I wasn’t going to write about writing for writers. But I never said I wouldn’t talk about marketing for writers. Like usual, something is driving me nuts and so I’m blogging about it. What’s new?
Besides – my blogs like this are really meant to HELP my fellow writers regardless the amount of snark.
So I know I’ve already blogged about writers who refuse to market themselves and hate social media, but today I want to talk about writers who do marketing and don’t tell...
