CHAPTER ONE
Friday, September 12

Instead of answering calls from everything on the other side, sometimes it’s just easier to follow the trail of blood. I should have known the dream was important since I woke up with a start, remembering the spirit’s words as if they’d been whispered in my ear. “Darkness ascends t...

Writing About Writing… Or Not

Lately, I’ve been writing a lot about writing (for writers), and I haven’t written as much for readers as I probably should. If you saw my hard drive and sifted through it (it would take months) you’d find numerous files with half written, or even completely written, blog posts in them. Because here’s the thing — things the piss me off always generate something written. I just don’t always post them all. Sometimes I don’t post them because no one needs to see me have a tantrum over things tha...

Organizing Your Writing Life #writerproblems #amwriting

Let’s face it, when you’re a writer who not only writes for other publishers, but who also self publishes, you are running your own business. This means you have A LOT more to do than just writing and meeting deadlines. There’s quarterly taxes, blogs, author events/appearances, social media, and a million and one other things you have to keep track of. It’s the nature of the beast.Because amidst the book cover approval, edits, queries, writing, marketing, formatting, business to-do’s, day-job...

My Crazy Cross-Genre Life

This past weekend I attended a friend’s birthday party, at which I met a wonderful couple who were readers. The standard questions came up like “What have you written?” and “Where can I find your books?” Luckily I had bookmarks with me and it turned out I had a series for each of them to try based on their interests (fantasy and mystery).

But one of the hardest questions I had to answer was, “In which genre do you write?”

Those of you who know me know how hard that question is since I seem to...

Writing Conferences: 10 Questions You Could Be Asked

I actually wrote this for a newsletter for aprofessional writer’sassociation I belong to. It seems some of my article was butchered out (accidentally) so I thought I would post the whole thing here in hopes it helps someone prepare for their first writer’s conference.

Ten Questions You Could be Asked at a Writer’s Conference

The questionnaireIt’s time to get your answers ready! In a conference environment you’re bound to find yourself in a situation where you have to answer questions about yourself and your w...

Author Interview: David Owain Hughes

David Owain Hughes was kind enough to take some time out of his day to stop by and give me an interview. His new book Choice Cuts, new from Burning Willow Press, is currently available! You can view his Amazon author page HERE. (See below for author website and FB Page.)

What is your favorite thing about being a writer?

Apart from getting to stay home all day?! I joke, although that is pretty nice; it’s nice to be out of the ‘rat race’ as they say. Aside from that, I think it’s pretty damn aw...

My Favorite Writing Advice

1. Write. A lot.

2. Read. A lot.

3. Finish what you write.

4. Edit what you write.

5. If it doesn’t make you laugh, cry, get angry, or feel emotion – it won’t make the reader do any of those things.

6. Read it aloud. Edit accordingly.

7. When rejected, go back to the drawing board and try again.

8. Write what you love to read.

9. Write because you love to write.

10. Ignorethose who don’t support your passion or effort.

Mid-Year Progress and End of Year Goals

It’s that time of year again for me to give readers an update on where everything is in the Quadrant-verse. Yes, it’s another state-of-the-muse address.

This time, the state of the muse is good. Yes, I’m a little behind my scheduled timeline(what’s new?). I will likely need to petition my publisher for a few extra weeksto an extra month on this due to unforeseen events at the day job. It seems all of my co-workers coined this the “Summer of Surgery” and I was called on to hold down the fort w...
