Pixies Release "EP-2"

PIXIES ANNOUNCE FOUR MORE BRAND NEW SONGS – “EP-2”New Music Video Accompanies the EP’s Release Here http://bit.ly/1hj80qf2014 Tour Dates Announced + Field Day, London ShowFollowing the successes of the track “Bagboy” and the four-track “EP-1,” Pixies deliver again, rolling out “EP-2,” four more brand new songs - “Blue-Eyed Hexe,” “Magdalena,” “Greens and Blues” and “Snakes,” as well as a music video for “Blue-Eyed Hexe.”The new songs were recorded during October 2012 at Rockfield Studios in Wales, UK, were produced by Gil Norton, and written by the Pixies.  As with the band’s “EP-1” and “Bagboy” track, as well as the Pixies original classic albums, “EP-2” features special artwork designed by Vaughan Oliver at v23.  “EP-2” is available exclusively on the band’s website – pixiesmusic.com – as a DDL (mp3 only), lossless DDL, limited edition 10-inch vinyl, and as part of special bundles.  The “Blue-Eyed Hexe” music video can be viewed here.  Log onto the band’s website for more details.Pixies will continue their extensive world tour in 2014, kicking off on January 15 with a 33-city North American trek, followed by a series of major South American and European festivals in the Spring and Summer.  The festival appearances will include headline slots at Lollapalooza Chile, Lollapalooza Argentina, and Lollapalooza Brazil in April, as well as at London’s “Field Day” in early June.  All dates are below.Lyrics, artwork, credits and other background info on “EP-2” are accessible here.Pixies talk about the four new songs on “EP-2”“Blue-Eyed Hexe”About this track, Pixies’ Black Francis explained, “It’s a tale from the northwestern part of the UK, and it’s a witch-woman kind of a song.  That’s what a ‘hexe’ is, and ours is a blue-eyed hexe.”  Guitarist Joey Santiago added, “Gil wanted a swagger, he wanted the guitar solo to sound like you’re going to have sex with this blue-eyed hexe.”“Magdalena”“This song is so atmospheric,” remembered Santiago.  “We had these weird Moog pedals that sounded like water.  It was a very mood-based, atmospheric sound, not based on any lyrics or anything.”  Added drummer David Lovering, “One of my favorites, maybe tied with ‘Indie Cindy.’  It’s cool the way it flows, and it’s a very simplistic song, very pretty, cool and moving.”“Greens and Blues”Said Black Francis, “As with all my songs, I would prefer people add their own interpretation to it.  But, in this case, let’s just say that we had done ‘Gigantic’ as the closer for many years at our reunion shows and it worked really well.  But I could see that we were going to grow weary of that and I felt like we basically needed a better ‘Gigantic.’  It was my attempt to come up with another song that would – musically, emotionally and psychologically – sit in the same place that ‘Gigantic’ has sat.  Not that I could ever replace that song: you write songs and they come out the way they come out.  So perhaps it can be said that this song fills the emotional niche that ‘Gigantic’ occupied, another show-closer.  I think the lyric alludes to that, the fact that it’s the end of the night, the end of something. And a separation if you will, between the band and the audience.  So I guess it’s kind of a goodbye song, or really more of a ‘good night’ song.“Snakes”“I’m not a jammer,” said Santiago, “but Black Francis and I started jamming it out.  I had this little idea and I did that sliding guitar just to emulate a snake.”  Black Francis adds, “This one was totally written in the studio session.  It proved to be a little bit difficult to play and a little bit difficult to record, sonically, but we stuck with it and I like the result.“With many more dates to be announced, the confirmed Pixies 2014 itinerary is as follows: JANUARY15        Massey Hall, Toronto, ON  CANADA  (Fidlar)16        Metropolis, Montreal, QC  CANADA  (Fidlar)18        Orpheum Theatre, Boston, MA  (Fidlar)19        Capitol Theatre, Port Chester, NY  (Fidlar)21        New Jersey Performing Arts Center, Newark, NJ  (Fidlar)22        Shubert Theatre, New Haven, CT  (Fidlar)24        Electric Factory, Philadelphia, PA  (Fidlar)25        Carnegie Music Hall, Pittsburgh, PA  (Fidlar)26        Strathmore, Washington, DC  (Fidlar)29        National Theatre, Richmond, VA  (Fidlar)31        Durham PAC, Durham, NC  (Cults) FEBRUARY 1         Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, Asheville, NC  (Cults) 2         Ryman Auditorium, Nashville, TN  (Cults) 4         Tabernacle, Atlanta, GA  (Cults) 6         Peabody Opera House, St. Louis, MO  (Cults) 7         LC Pavilion, Columbus, OH  (Cults) 8         The Fillmore, Detroit, MI  (Cults) 9         Rivera Theatre, Chicago, IL  (Cults)11        Midland Theatre, Kansas City, MO  (Cults)13        Fillmore Auditorium, Denver, CO  (Best Coast)14        Belly Up, Aspen, CO  (Best Coast)15        The Great Salt Air, Salt Lake City, UT  (Best Coast)17        Orpheum Theatre, Vancouver, BC  CANADA  (Best Coast)18        Paramount Theatre, Seattle, WA  (Best Coast)19        Schnitzer Auditorium, Portland, OR  (Best Coast)21        Fox Theatre, Oakland, CA  (Best Coast)22        San Jose Civic, San Jose, CA  (Best Coast)23        The Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, Las Vegas, NV  (Best Coast)24        Comerica Theatre, Phoenix, AZ  (Best Coast)25        Kiva Auditorium, Albuquerque, NM  (Best Coast)27        Bayou Music Center, Houston, TX  (Best Coast)28        South Side Ballroom, Dallas, TX  (Best Coast)MARCH 1         Austin Music Hall, Austin, TX  (Best Coast)29/30   Lollapalooza Chile, Santiago, Chile

Brooklyn Quintet The Skins Support Jake Bugg

Brooklyn Quintet The Skins Support Jake Bugg On North American Tour

In the Studio Working On New EP

Watch The Skins Perform 'Surf' at Wreckroom Records + mp3 Download    Stream Single 'Dead Hands' (mp3)                                                          Brooklyn-based rock band The Skins has announced a North American tour with British musicianJake Bugg. The band, consisting of siblings Bayli, Reef, and Kaya Mckeithan, along with dueling guitarists and former School of Rock classmates Daisy Spencer and Russell Chell, has been working on a followup EP to their self-released 2012 EP, The Skins.

Although the band range in ages from 15-21, The Skins play like old pro's, offering a soulful interpretation of rock that today's audiences crave, while proving that age doesn't matter. It is perhaps this synergy and attitude among close family and friends, along with early demos like 'Surf' and 'Dead Hands' (above), that caught renowned producer Rick Rubin's attention, who has been developing songs with the band at his own Shangri-La Studios in Malibu, CA. The band's self-titled EP received an onslaught of rave reviews and buzz from countless blogs, radio stations and labels, their first in-studio music video recorded by Wreckroom Records, a Brooklyn based music incubator for emerging bands, that they helped found with actor Adrian Grenier, received over 10,000 views in its first week on YouTube and continues its steady rise each day (http://wreckroom.tv/). Contemporary street artist/graphic designer Shepard Fairey has also offered to design the band's t-shirts and stickers for this tour, which will be available for sale on the road.

Since forming in 2012, The Skins have played two sold out tours supporting the UK band The Heavy, they blew audiences away at this summer's Afro Punk Festival and were fan favorites at both the 2013 CMJ and SXSW festivals. The Skins' licensing work has included the use for the Australian world open on ESPN and Cinemax, which has licensed the song "Dead Hands" for an eight-week ad campaign.

Linnea Olsson- Huffington Post premieres AH! album teaser

THE HUFFINGTON POST PREMIERES LINNEA OLSSON ALBUM TEASERDEBUT ALBUM AH! SET FOR JANUARY 21 RELEASE ON GÖTTERFUNK PRODUCTIONS

“Swedish cello-pop sprite Linnea Olsson spins some sparkling, Joanna Newsome-esque ditties on…her forthcoming debut, Ah! which seems set to charm the pantsoff of chamber pop enthusiasts.”—Q Magazine

“Linnea Olsson’s darting orchestral pop recalls Kate Bush at her most fragmented…Her mastery of the cello—mashed through a series of FX and loop pedals—is nothing short of outstanding…She performs with perfect unity of vocal and instrument, pushing the limits of what we expect from modern pop music.”—The Line of Best Fit
The Huffington Post premieres the album teaser for Swedish cellist Linnea Olsson debut album  Ah! , which is set for release on January 21 on Götterfunk Productions. You can view the trailer HERE on The Huffington Post and HERE on Vimeo. Olsson will tour the U.S. this coming February alongside longtime friend and collaborator Ane Brun. Olsson’s first string of stateside solo dates includes stops in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco and more. Please see reverse for full tour routing. Olsson, fresh from touring with Peter Gabriel, is more than ready to strike out on her own. Album track “All 4 U” is available now for free download HERE. Of “All 4 U,” Olsson says All4U is a song that is about the first state of being totally in love with someone. I wanted to try and capture the feeling of when you are so smitten that you don´t understand what you´re doing, when you are totally out of control of how your body reacts when you see that person.” Ah! is an album assembled entirely from Olsson’s voice, cello and in one song the darbuka makes an appearance, a Middle Eastern goblet drum Olsson discovered through her good friend (and producer of the album) Fredrik “Gicken” Johannson.  Throughout the album the two elements of Cello and voice are warped and bent by the delay modeler and loop station that Olsson cherishes as an integral part to her music. “I abuse delay,” she says. “It is my favorite effect of all time.” For Folks Sake calls Ah! “a work of art—so perfectly crafted and at home within its elements that it’s hard to believe this is Olsson’s first solo debut.” To celebrate the release, Olsson will tour early next year. Of writing the album Olsson says, “I sat down with the cello and it was a bit like a flood. I wrote all the songs for the album during a very intense and short period of time.” After this fruitful and solitary writing and recording period, in between touring with fellow Scandinavian artists Ane Brun and Frida Hyvönen, Olsson asked Johannson to mix and help with the finishing touches on what is now know as the album Ah!. Olsson grew up in Halmstad, Sweden with parents who were both musicians. She began cello lessons at age six and sang in choirs at a young age. “Music is a part of my life, like love or food or air, really,” Olsson says. The pivotal moment came when Olsson was performing at a wedding at 14, when she used the “pop” singing voice she’d only ever practiced in front of the mirror. Soon after, Olsson was forming bands with her friends to play the music she wanted to play.LINNEA OLSSON TOUR DATESFebruary 11                                                 Vienna, VA                                                Jammin JavaFebruary 12                                              New York, NY                                     Highline BallroomFebruary 13                                               Montreal, QC                                                     L’AstralFebruary 14                                                Toronto, ON                                                          RivoliFebruary 15                                                 Chicago, IL                                           Schubas TavernFebruary 17                                              Vancouver, BC                                              Electric OwlFebruary 18                                                 Seattle, WA                                        Crocodile LoungeFebruary 19                                            San Francisco, CA                                                    YoshisFebruary 21                                               San Diego, CA                                                      CasbahFebruary 22                                             Los Angeles, CA                                                 The Mint

Pussy Riot Freed

Statement regarding the release of Pussy Riot's Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyokhina For Immediate ReleaseMonday, December 23rd (New York) "We all recognize that the whole amnesty program is a PR move by Putin, likely of course a bit of image clean up prior to the Olympics, said Hunter Heaney, Executive Director of The Voice Project, an organization that has worked behind the scenes for the women's release and worked together with family members to keep the Pussy Riotwomen safe and monitored while they were in the camps, raising over $120,000 for the support efforts. "Amnesty being "granted" to two women put in prison for a 40 second song performance, who would have been released in a mere couple of months, after missing nearly two years with their young children and loved ones is, of course, absurd. Last minute amnesty does not make up for that or the rule of law denied to so many others by the Putin regime and our thoughts are with them today. However, we are so happy that Nadya and Masha are safe, have come through this ordeal healthy and strong, and two young mothers will now be getting to see their children. A very large community of activists and donors around the world have worked hard to help to see that happen." More information here: http://voiceproject.org/your-voice/2013/12/23/nadya-is-free-all-imprisoned-pussy-riot-members-have-now-been-released/ - Hunter Heaney
