Stream David First's new LP in it's entirety

STREAM DAVID FIRST'S
ELECTRONIC WORKS: 1976-1977
IN IT'S ENTIRETY VIA
OUT  ON DAIS RECORDS
When people associate composer David First with his musical resume, anyone goes straight to his late 70′s avant punk band, The Notekillers and their influential 1980 single "The Zipper". Prior to his time in the basements of Philadelphia, he had already played in Cecil Taylor’s ensemble and after the Notekillers broke up he moved to New York City in the early 80′s, taking root in the downtown NYC avant garde scene. It was there that First honed his craft for experimental composition and ambient drone which still continues to the present day.

Though this narrative made sense, there was a piece missing in the puzzle of First’s musical background. In 1976, two years after playing with Taylor and the year before starting the Notekillers, he enrolled in a class in electronic music at Princeton in the department headed at the time by legendary electronic composer Milton Babbitt.

During his time at Princeton, First was introduced to the classical electronic music studio there, a lonely outpost of the famed Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center which housed one of the very first Buchla 100 series systems acquired by Vladimir Ussachevsky & Otto Luening.

Unfortunately, due to the introduction of digital technology within the music world, this system was left to languish in the studio unattended and nearly forgotten. First fell in love with this equipment and seized the opportunity to compose using the Buchla 100 synthesizer, at first experimenting only with electronic synthesis but later adding in his signature guitar stylings to make these compositions unique to the academic output typical of university music.

Thankfully, these compositions were recorded by First at Princeton on various reel to reel tapes and stored away for over 35 years. It wasn’t until the summer of 2012, when David First and Ryan Martin (of Dais Records) decided to revisit and transfer these reels to compile an album presented here as a selection of genuine, uninhibited exploration into modular electronic synthesis. Limited to an edition of 500 copies with liner notes by David First.

The record is out today and you can now stream it in it's entirety. Find the streaming & order links below!

Mac DeMarco announces new album + shares single

MAC DEMARCO ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM & TOUR DATES
SHARES FIRST SINGLE "PASSING OUT PIECES"
SALAD DAYS DUE APRIL 1 VIA CAPTURED TRACKS "As I'm getting older, chip up on my shoulder..." is the opening line from Mac DeMarco's second full-length LP Salad Days, the follow up to 2012's lauded Mac DeMarco 2. Amongst that familiar croon and lilting guitar, that initial line from the title track sets the tone for an LP of a maturing singer/songwriter/producer. Someone strangely self-aware of the positives and negatives of their current situation at the ripe old age of 23.
Written and recorded around a relentless touring schedule, Salad Days gives the listener a very personal insight into what it's all about to be Mac amidst the craziness of a rising career in a very public format. The lead single, "Passing Out Pieces," set to huge overdriven organ chords, contains lines like "...never been reluctant to share, passing out pieces of me..." Clearly, this isn't the same record that breezily gave us "Dreamin" and "Ode to Viceroy," but the result of what comes from their success. "Chamber of Reflection," a track featuring icy synth stabs and soulful crooning, wouldn't be out of place on a fantasy Shuggie Otis and Prince collaboration. Standout tracks like these show Mac's widening sound, whether insights into future directions or even just welcome one-off forays into new territory.

Still, this is musically, lyrically and melodically good old Mac DeMarco, through and through. The crisp John Lennon/Phil Spector era homegrown lush production that could have come off Geoff Emerick's mixing board in 1972 with that peculiar Mac touch that's completely right now is still present. "Brother," a complete future classic, is Mac at his most soulful and easygoing but with that distinct weirdness and bite that can only come from Mr. DeMarco. "Treat Her Better" is rife with Mac-isms, heavily chorused slinky lead guitar, swooning vocal melodies, effortless chords that come along only after years of effort, and the other elements seriously lacking in independent music: sentiment and heartfelt sincerity.

We're only in Part 2 1/2 (one EP and two LP's in) of Mac's career. As you read this and as you hear the album on April Fool's Day of this year, he'll probably be on tour, or preparing for one... or maybe already writing new music. A relentless work ethic is something to be admired in today's indie music scene, but when it's of the quality Mac is giving us time and time again, it starts to turn from admiration to awe.

Joan As Police Woman Announces New Single 'Holy City'

JOAN AS POLICE WOMAN 'HOLY CITY' The new single on Play It Again Sam available digitally now  Listen here: Buy here : From the album THE CLASSIC out March 10th(Play It Again Sam CD/LP/Digital PIAS685)Itunes link here: ‘Holy City’ is the new album’s prime Motown/Hi label-influenced pop fusion, a brilliantly instinctive lead single inspired by a visit to Jerusalem’s Wailing Wall and understanding people find ecstasy in different ways, from praying to making music. The track’s atmospheric closing scat-rap is from : “he’s an incredibly inspired musician as well as being a comedic genius,” ventures Joan, “he challenges you to think much deeper but in a way that’s subtle, plus he’s so comfortable, natural and sensual in his body... I contacted him through mutual friends, and a week later, he was recording on my record with the freedom to do what he wanted. It felt very magical.”‘Holy City’ is available digitally now but is also released on 7" vinyl as a AA-side single with the album's title track, ‘The Classic’ on 17th FebThe Classic, the fourth album of originals by the uniquely charismatic artist known as Joan As Police Woman, builds on the creative impetus and success of its 2011 predecessor The Deep Field. As ever Joan strives to create music rooted in an intimate, elemental and uplifting brand of soul combined with her own unique serene, torch-singing temperament, but whereas melancholy was a principle feature of Joan’s earlier work, this time there’s a more liberated feel than ever before.Famously a key member of Antony Hegarty’s Johnsons and Rufus Wainwright’s band until she began making her own records, Joan was inspired by their combined piano balladry while infusing it with her own stripped-down-soul and torch-song approach. Her 2006 album debut Real Life was followed by To Survive (2008), written in the aftermath of her mother’s death; in 2009, she released an interim covers album simply called Cover, before The Deep Field confirmed Joan had started a full recovery and was determined to beat the blues. Which takes us to The Classic, where Joan reaches even further toward the light. A UK tour has been confirmed for April/May, plus two low-key shows in March.  The Lexington show, announced to fans via Joan's Facebook page, sold out in a matter of minutes. The Jezabels Announce North American Spring Tour

The Jezabels Announce Spring North American Headlining Tour in Support of New Full-Length Studio Album The Brink – out February 18th, 2014 on PIAS America

Month Long Trek Kicks off at Los Angeles’ Famed El Rey Theater on March 26th
New York, NY – The Jezabels are thrilled to announce a month long North American headlining tour in support of their new full-length studio album  The Brink  – produced by Dan Grech-Marguerat (The VaccinesThe KooksScissor Sisters) and due out in the US on PIAS America on February 18th.  The US trek will come on the heels of some extensive overseas touring that kicks off with a headlining slot at this year’s Laneway Festival, whose Sydney and Melbourne dates are already sold out.  They’ll follow that with their biggest UK and European headlining run yet that has them at 02 Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London and Astra in Berlin.  Wrapping in Cologne Germany at GEBAUDE 9 on March 20th, the band will kick off the North American run on March 26th at LA’s famed El Rey Theatre making stops in most major US cities including an April 8th date at Chicago’s Lincoln Hall and an April 15th Bowery Ballroom show in NYC.  Arts & Crafts recording artist Gold & Youth will be supporting The Jezabels on the entire North American tour.

The Sydney four-piece – Sam Lockwood (guitar), Nik Kaloper (drums), Heather Shannon (keys), Hayley Mary (vox), – is excited to be venturing back out on the road in support of The Brink.  The new album is the follow-up to their incredibly successful debut album  Prisoner  which shot to No. 2 on the ARIA Album chart, racked up gold and platinum sales, earned them a staggering eight ARIA nominations and won them an ARIA Award for “Best Independent Release.”  The two years following the September 2011 debut album was spent on the road and had The Jezabels playing more than 200 shows internationally, selling out headlining shows across the US, Canada, UK and Europe.  They took Imagine Dragons out in the US and they supported Garbage in the UK.  They also found themselves playing a number of noteworthy festivals including Lollapalooza,BumbershootGovernors Ball, and Fun Fun Fun Festival in the US and overseas it wasPukkelpopT in the ParkHop Farm Music FestivalFrequencyBig Day Out, and Falls Festival (Australia).

As things began to wind down, the band relocated to London and set to work on The Brink.  Recorded in London with the help of producer Dan Grech-Marguerat and mastered at legendary Abbey Road Studios by Christian Wright (Ed SheeranLCD SoundsystemKeane), the band entered the studio with loads of ideas and thrilled to be working with a producer that could help guide the process.  From the album opener and title track “The Brink” – capturing the band’s love for texture, dynamics and subtlety – to current single “The End” – a shimmering triumphant tune with hauntingly dark lyrics – to album closer “All You Need” – a majestic dreamlike finale – the album reflects just how far The Jezabels have come from their start in Sydney nearly seven years ago.

Not content to sit idly by, The Jezabels hit to road this past November to support Depeche Mode on their UK arena run and followed those dates up with a handful of shows with The Pixies.  They kick off their overseas dates on January 25th with the first Laneway Festival date in Singapore before heading to Australia and New Zealand to play six additional Laneway shows where the band will be officially launching The Brink.  A complete list of confirmed US dates below and for additional information on The Jezabels, overseas dates, etc. please visit:http://thejezabels.com/

DAMON ALBARN: EVERYDAY ROBOTS

DAMON ALBARN

NEW ALBUM:
EVERYDAY ROBOTS    Title Track Video World Broadcast Premiere Tonight on Sundance Channel

A new studio album by Damon Albarn - his first solo record - titled Everyday Robots will be released by Warner Bros. Records on April 29, 2014.

Recorded last year at Albarn's West London studio 13, Everyday Robots is produced by Richard Russell of XL, with whom Damon produced Bobby Womack's The Bravest Man In The Universe - and features guest appearances from Brian Eno and Natasha Khan (Bat For Lashes).

Led by title track "Everyday Robots", the 12 songs here invite the listener into Albarn's world for a genuine 'one-to-one' and are the most soul-searching and autobiographical since his musical journey began: a career that started with Blur and spans Gorillaz, The Good, The Bad & The Queen, Mali Music, Monkey: Journey To The West, Dr Dee and Africa Express.

The songs' subject matter is more directly personal than before and is inspired by Albarn's experiences from early childhood to now, including the trappings of our modern existence, computer games, mobile phones and nature versus technology.

The lead, title track "Everyday Robots" is accompanied by a video directed by artist and designer Aitor Throup that receives its world broadcast premiere tonight on the Sundance Channel (10:45PM ET on dual feed cable; 7:45PM PT on DIRECTV and DISH). The film is a digital portrait of Albarn by Throup and uses CGI software and actual cranial scans and facial reconstruction techniques to explore and reveal the process of building a uniquely personal portrait of an artist and individual.

Throup also creatively directed the visual concepts for the single and album artwork, as well as shooting Albarn for the album cover image.

Damon Albarn is confirmed to appear at The Governors Ball Music Festival taking place June 6-8 on Randall's Island in New York City with a band including guitarist Seye, drummer Pauli The PSM, bassist Jeff Wootton and Mike Smith on keyboards.

Everyday Robots will be available as a digital download, CD and 12" vinyl.

The full tracklisting is:1) Everyday Robots 2) Hostiles 3) Lonely Press Play 4) Mr Tembo 5) Parakeet 6) The Selfish Giant 7) You And Me 8) Hollow Ponds 9) Seven High 10) Photographs (You Are Taking Now) 11) The History Of A Cheating Heart 12) Heavy Seas Of LoveLink to "Everyday Robots" video here:  http://smarturl.it/everydayrobotsvideo

NEW TRACK: WE ARE SHINING X ELIZA DOOLITTLE - KILLING

WE ARE SHINING
UNVEIL NEW TRACK 'KILLING' FT. ELIZA DOOLITTLE

LISTEN:
WE ARE SHINING is a project comprised of two London based music makers, who together have created a hypnotic blend of vocal led beats.
Meeting in London, the duo Acyde and Morgan discovered an affinity for making music combining Morgan's innovative production technique with Acyde's unique vocal style.
Their music exhibits an outright lack of restraint - intense ups and downs, instinctive outbursts, raw beats and random noise - what holds their music together is what should in fact tear it apart. It adheres to no single style or genre but stands out for its unique and forward thinking approach.
WE ARE SHINING have been working on their debut album which features a host of surprise collaborations.
