Gardens & Villa Release New Video, Add Dates w/ Broken Bells

Gardens & Villa just premiered the video for the standout single "Bullet Train" via SPIN today, off their sophomore offering, Dunes, out this week on Secretly Canadian. Stereogum, who originally premiered the track, described it as "a lush New Wave chorus worthy of Duran Duran." Watch the video here for "Bullet Train" here
Regarding the video's track, SPIN noted: "On "Bullet Train," the group's sound is smoother than ever, their avant-pop synthesizers matched by snappy post-punk drums and a melody sung by a twisting flute hook. And now the song receives an equally deft video treatment."
The follow-up to the band's 2011 self-titled debut, Dunes was produced by Tim Goldsworthy (Cut Copy, DFA Records, LCD Soundsystem) and was praised by Interview Magazine in a recent feature as "a confident sophomore effort that finds the band skillfully toying with sonic tensions amidst a sea of symbolic polarities." Dunes manifested from the band's personal and artistic growth since the release of their debut, in which they emerged a more enlightened, cohesive version of themselves. These experiences shaped the sound of the band's new collection of initimate and beautifully layered pop songs, full of moody synths which beam with dystopian energy and uncompromising sincerity.

Gardens & Villa have just set out on an extensive US tour, which includes shows in Austin, Philadelphia, New York and Chicago. See below for a complete list of their upcoming tour dates.
Biography / Over the past three years, the Santa Barbarian comrades that make up Gardens & Villa – Chris Lynch, Adam Rasmussen, Levi Hayden, Shane McKillop, and Dusty Ineman – went from playing local bills to being veterans of the road. After releasing their self-titled debut on Secretly Canadian in 2011, they pushed their van's odometer into the six-digit range, zigzagging North America and Europe with over 350 shows in just 2 years. Gardens & Villa emerged a wiser, crystallized version of themselves.
Those experiences planted the seeds for the band's new batch of cohesive, personal, and beautifully layered pop songs -- homegrown in the confines of the band's beachside practice space. When it came time to record, they searched out acclaimed producer Tim Goldsworthy (Cut Copy, DFA Records, LCD Soundsystem, Hercules & Love Affair) and these five surf-town natives found themselves traveling to the unlikely locale of Benton Harbor, MI (pop. 10,040) in January. There they landed at the Key Club, located deep in the recesses of a converted locksmith's building where they would record what would become their second full-length, Dunes.
Gardens & Villa burrowed into the Key Club's retro-themed studio and living space, only leaving the facility five times over the next month. The disconnect between Santa Barbara's familiar sunny beaches and Michigan's snow-covered lakeshore led to the group's creative unraveling in the studio. The band lost track of the hours, days, and weeks as blinking analog machines captured the intense journey. In the process, Dunes was poured through Sly Stone's original custom-built Flickinger recording console.
With just a week left before deadline, Gardens & Villa sought a brief refuge from the studio where their progress had stalled. They went on a trip, traversing winding roads past frozen tundra and barren trees and into the wilderness of the nearby state park's tall dunes. The group climbed to the top and collapsed into a combination of sand and snow. Simultaneously reminded of home as well as their distance from it, their jaws dropped as they turned to see Lake Michigan's majestic and surreal expanse stretching toward the horizon.
Supported by Goldsworthy's guidance, the band went back to the studio and ultimately emerged with a record beaming with dystopian energy, subconscious lyrics, and uncompromising sincerity. Lynch has seamlessly integrated his bansuri flutes and Rasmussen has fleshed out his looming synths alongside shades of '80s cult films soundscapes that lurk just underneath the songs in an unnoticeable-yet-omnipresent fashion. Like the awe-inspiring clarity of sitting atop Michigan's dunes, the band's forthcoming record shares a clear and evocative vision of where Gardens & Villa's members have traveled, what they've learned, and what lies ahead.Upcoming Tour Dates02.11.14 - Crescent Ballroom - Phoenix, AZ

A.J. Ellis of Five O'Clock Heroes To Release Solo Debut
FIVE O'CLOCK HEROES FRONT-MAN A.J. ELLIS TO RELEASE SOLO DEBUTBURY THE DEVIL OUT APRIL 1ST ON GLAZE RECORDS
STREAM/DOWNLOAD THE TEASER SINGLE "PROVE YOU'RE NOT A NUMBER"
A.J. Ellis will release his debut solo album Bury The Devil on April 1st, 2014 via Glaze Records. The New York City based British expat is best known as the front-man of Five O'Clock Heroes, a band that saw success during the early to mid-2000s NYC revival. They toured alongside the likes of Albert Hammond Jr. and developed a dedicated following both at home in NYC and abroad in the UK and Europe, winning over audiences with their what Time Out London described as a "feisty punk power pop" sound, and songs that NME praised for having the "power to creep into the subconscious." The first introduction to Ellis' solo sound comes in the form of the single "Prove You're Not A Number" available for free download via SoundCloud.
Stream/Download "Prove You're Not A Number" via SoundCloud
Born in the UK, Ellis came to the United States as a teenager in the mid-'90s, initially living in upstate New York while playing in his brother Steve Ellis' band The Simpletons (Columbia Records). Attracted to the music and the musician's life, but wanting more, Ellis left The Simpletons after two years and moved to New York City to pursue his own path as a songwriter. Before forming the Heroes, Ellis' first gigs consisted of open mic nights at New York City staples, such as The Sidewalk Cafe and The Raven Café, getting his feet wet with other upcoming artists, like Adam Green and Regina Spektor.
Three years removed from the most recent Heroes' album. Bury The Devil sees Ellis breaking out on his own again, putting his distinctive rough hewn vocals and Costello-esque guitar-pop songwriting style to great effect over the course of 11 tracks alternately tinged with country twang, bluesy refrains, and anti-folk aesthetics. The album also spans a wide emotional landscape. The upbeat "Dance All Night" is a rollicking kiss-off to responsibility and settling down, while "A Long Way Down" takes the listener on a brooding tour through deep despair.
Bury The Devil was recorded in Leeds, England at Cannonball Studios and produced by George Riley(10,000 things, The Blacklisters, Heart Ships). The album was mixed in Nashville, TN by Willie Breeding (The Breedings) and mastered by Duane Lundy (My Morning Jacket, Vandaveer) in Lexington, KY.

View the zombie inspired video for the song at: http://youtu.be/reFUFpDGdGU.Recorded over a two year period, Skull Worship is the Los Angeles-based band’s eighth album and the first new album in five years. The Warlocks construct a dense, more elaborate web of sound, layers of distortion and the occasional synth a la Silver Apples and Red Crayola. “Silver & Plastic” expands the band’s oeuvre into acoustic territory recalling T Rex. Other songs like “Endless Drops” turn to Hawkwind, Neu! and experimental rock for inspiration.
“Not everything fits perfectly on this record,” describes singer Bobby Hecksher. “There are loose parts, fragmented sections and then it rocks all together. It's not perfectly polished like a lot of records out there. More like an expression of moments in time that drip together like a strange dream.”
Bobby continues, “I consider Skull Worship the final musical piece of the trilogy which started with Heavy Deavy Skull Lover , then The Mirror Explodes and now Skull Worship. They are all suppose to be connected with similar cord changes and fragmented weirdness.”

NONONO played their first official US shows just this past fall, when they took New York City's CMJ Music Marathon by storm, being championed by everyone from Billboard, who named them one of the "Best of CMJ 2013", to Grantland, to TIME and even CMJ themselves, who highlighted the band in their "5 International Artists to Watch" feature. Vogue, ELLE, Glamour and Into The Gloss all profiled Stina, and Refinery 29, Nylon and Harper's Bazaar picked NONONO as an Artist To Watch in 2014. Stina is an unlikely, unassuming rock star in the making. She went to school in Brighton to become a psychologist, and then proceeded to work as a nurse in a mental institution. It wasn't until recently, when the 24 year old got linked up with Astma & Rocwell, that Stina stepped into the spotlight.Watch Stina and NONONO perform acoustic versions of "Pumpin Blood," "Like The Wind," and "Fire Without A Flame" for All Saints and also stopped by Perez Hilton for a session as well. NEW LINK: Iggy Azalea - Fancy ft. Charli XCX
IGGY AZALEANEW SINGLE ‘FANCY’ FT. CHARLI XCXRELEASE DATE: 6TH APRILSOUNDCLOUD: YOUTUBE:
Sunday 6th April brings the release of Iggy Azalea’s new single, ‘Fancy’ feat. Charli XCX. The Australian rap siren exploded onto the airwaves last year with her killer underground smash, ‘Work’. Almost 12 months on, Ms Azalea has made her mark across the globe, from London to Atlanta, Paris to Sydney, Milan to LA, cementing herself as a sure-fire pop sensation with a grand master plan, world domination.
‘Fancy’ feat. Charli XCX brings a new sound to Iggy’s repertoire, with stripped back production driven by an infectious retro-induced synth leaving the floor open for Iggy’s impeccable double time flow and Charlie XCX’s contagious chorus. Having previously produced ‘Work’ for Iggy, The Invisible Men(Katy B, DJ Fresh, Ellie Goulding) once again work their magic on the track while infamous Anthony Kilhoffer (2 Chainz, Kanye West, Beyonce) was enlisted to provide the final mix.
Powering back onto the scene following her first UK Top 10 hit with ‘Change Your Life feat. T.I’accompanied by Australian support dates on the ‘Mrs Carter World Tour’ with Beyoncé and European tour support with hip-hop royalty, Nas earlier in 2013, Iggy is armed and ready to take her electrifying live show on the road again with new material from her forthcoming debut album, ‘The New Classic’, due to release later this year.Following her biggest performance to date on US prime time TV, ’The Late Show, with David Letterman, Iggy was invited to perform at this year’s Grammy Awards Friends ‘N’ Family party, where she was joined on stage with fellow rapper, T.I. to perform their UK hit single, ‘Change Your Life’ together.
Last year Iggy ignited dance floors and festival fields across the UK with performances atGlastonbury, Wireless, Radio 1’s Big Weekend, The Great Escape and London’s O2 Arena to name a few; this summer will see Iggy return to the festival circuit as she joins the likes of Kanye West, Pharrell Williams and Basement Jaxx at London’s Wireless Festival, with further festival appearances to be announced.

US Tour Kicks off March 9th in Dallas, TX
"They are kings of romance. There is something almost subversive about their odd mix of influences (The Smiths/'60s girl groups/'50s rock and roll)... It's the romance of the Seine, of walking in the Peaks; or lying on your back reading and daydreaming."
- BBC Radio
Sheffield, UK-based romantics, The Crookes, are pleased to announce their upcoming stateside performances culminating at this year's SXSW Music Festival. 2014 sees Sheffield-based dreamers release their 3rd LP, SOAPBOX becoming the first band to release three full-length albums on Fierce Panda since indie heroes Death Cab For Cutie. Over the past four years they have also released a string of stand-alone singles, one mini-album, and racked up an international gig-count that puts most other modern bands to shame, prompting Steve Lamacq to describe them as "one of the most hardworking and prolific bands of the underground.
2013 saw them on tour supporting friend and Sheffield hero Richard Hawley, showcase at SXSW in Austin, Texas (where they were spotted and signed by Modern Outsider Records) and play two critically acclaimed shows in New York, all before disappearing to Italy for two months to record in a secluded church in the Italian countryside. The result was SOAPBOX, an album that is tougher and more ferocious than anything they've previously released.
"The idea of the "Outsider" underscores many of the songs. It was never intentional, but upon reflection it was clear that feelings of alienation and frustration was a gauze through which all the music was filtered, explains Guitarist Daniel Hopewell. "As a band we have always been outsiders. Over the last few years have found a strange sense of belonging in the underground. Wherever we go we always seem to find/cause chaos, but we embrace that world."
