US Tour Kicks off March 9th in Dallas, TX

"They are kings of romance. There is something almost subversive about their odd mix of influences (The Smiths/'60s girl groups/'50s rock and roll)... It's the romance of the Seine, of walking in the Peaks; or lying on your back reading and daydreaming."
BBC Radio    Sheffield, UK-based romantics, The Crookes, are pleased to announce their upcoming stateside performances culminating at this year's SXSW Music Festival. This announcement comes on the heels of their upcoming SOAPBOX LP available via Modern Outsider on April 15, 2014. In case you missed it, you can stream and share the track and video to their first single "Play Dumb" below.

2014 sees Sheffield-based dreamers release their 3rd LP, SOAPBOX   becoming the first band to release three full-length albums on Fierce Panda since indie heroes Death Cab For Cutie. Over the past four years they have also released a string of stand-alone singles, one mini-album, and racked up an international gig-count that puts most other modern bands to shame, prompting Steve Lamacq to describe them as "one of the most hardworking and prolific bands of the underground.

2013 saw them on tour supporting friend and Sheffield hero Richard Hawley, showcase at SXSW in Austin, Texas (where they were spotted and signed by Modern Outsider Records) and play two critically acclaimed shows in New York, all before disappearing to Italy for two months to record in a secluded church in the Italian countryside. The result was SOAPBOX, an album that is tougher and more ferocious than anything they've previously released.

"The idea of the "Outsider" underscores many of the songs. It was never intentional, but upon reflection it was clear that feelings of alienation and frustration was a gauze through which all the music was filtered, explains Guitarist Daniel Hopewell. "As a band we have always been outsiders. Over the last few years have found a strange sense of belonging in the underground. Wherever we go we always seem to find/cause chaos, but we embrace that world."
