White Lung share video w/ NPR, 'Deep Fantasy' out 6/17

WHITE LUNG SHARE NEW VIDEO "FACE DOWN" HERE
DEEP FANTASY OUT JUNE 17TH ON DOMINO RECORDING CO.

Photo: Piper Ferguson
White Lung dosed us with another visceral video, "Face Down," from their upcoming full-length album, Deep Fantasy, out June 17th via Domino Recording Co. NPR debuted the VHS filmed video calling White Lung "the endless-riffs-per-minute punk band".
Mish Way on "Face Down": "I had this really big vision for it where I wanted to rip off two different old videos, one involving Anthony Kiedis. But then, I asked Pierce McGary to do it and I knew he would have a totally different perspective and make it all "Pierce", which was exactly what I wanted. His filming style reflects this L7 video I love "Stuck Here Again" and he turned it out."
WATCH "FACE DOWN" VIA YOUTUBE HERE
Deep Fantasy is their third full length and proves White Lung to be every bit as confrontational as before, but it appears that Vancouver's hard hitting rock n' roll outfit have opened their sound up just enough to draw listeners in before kicking them in the face. (In a good way.)
Way is more provocative and melodic than ever on Fantasy, lyrically surveying addiction ("Drown With the Monster"), body dysmorphia ("Snake Jaw") and sexual dynamics ("Down It Goes,") amongst other dinner table topics. William, a devotee of Johnny Marr "plays with the speed of an 80s hardcore dude" whirled in Vassiliou's relentless and seemingly effortless approach to drumming.
After a year plus of near constant touring behind last album, Sorry - which won raves fromPitchforkRolling Stone and Interview -White Lung slimmed to a trio in the studio; vocalist Mish Way, drummer Anne-Marie Vassiliou and guitarist Kenneth William. Deep Fantasywas made primarily in Vancouver with producer Jesse Gander (who also did both Sorryand their 2010 debut It's the Evil) in just two, ten day-long sessions at the end of last year and the start of this one. William handled bass duties on Fantasy while Wax Idols' Hether Fortune will take up bass and backing vocal duties on tour for the foreseeable future.

Failure Unveil First New Music Since 1996's Fantastic Planet

FAILURE UNVEIL "COME CRASHING," FIRST NEW MUSIC SINCE 1996'S FANTASTIC PLANET
NORTH AMERICAN TREE OF STARS TOUR UNDERWAY  May 15, 2014, Los Angeles - Failure quietly unveiled the song "Come Crashing" overnight via Bandcamp (failureband.bandcamp.com).
The song marks the band's first new music since the 1996 release of the landmark album, Fantastic Planet, and arrives as the Los Angeles trio embarks on their first North American tour in seventeen years.
"Come Crashing" is also included on a tour only EP, Tree of Stars, which includes live recordings of "Let It Drip," "Frogs," Sergeant Politeness" and "Heliotropic."
Failure announced their eagerly awaited reunion in November, which was followed in February by a sold out show at The El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. Spin said the performance "was so dynamic, sweeping, warm, and expansive that it felt like the perfect combination of an arena show with an intimate setting." The band joined former touring partners, Tool, for a brief March outing and most recently helped Maynard James Keenan celebrate his 50th birthday at Cinquanta. In a recent interview with Noisey (http://noisey.vice.com/blog/failure-interview-ken-andrews), Ken Andrews revealed the band is currently working on a new album.

Riot Fest Unveils “10 Years. 10 Essential Albums.”

Riot Fest Unveils “10 Years. 10 Essential Albums.”For Chicago & DenverTen Bands To Play Their Seminal Albums at Riot Fest

On the heels of announcing Riot Fest in three cities within the past week (Toronto, Chicago and Denver), organizers have released the first big surprise in celebration of Riot Fest’s 10th Anniversary, entitled “10 Years. 10 Essential Albums.”
“During last year’s Violent Femmes’ set at Riot, where they performed Violent Femmes unannounced in its entirety, it dawned on me that if we ever did an album play thing at Riot, we should make it something that the fans would remember years from now,” said Michael Petryshyn, Riot Fest partner. “So, I literally was walking back to my trailer after their set and it hit me… ‘10 Years. 10 Essential Albums.’… and yeah, it grew from there.”
To help celebrate Riot Fest’s 10th Anniversary, ten bands have joined in to play their seminal albums either at Riot Fest in Chicago or in both Denver and Chicago. Nine of the bands have been released today:
Jane’s Addiction: Nothing’s Shocking (Chicago)The Offspring: Smash (Chicago)Weezer: “The Blue Album” (Chicago & Denver)Slayer: Reign in Blood (Chicago & Denver)Samhain: Initium (Chicago)NOFX: Punk In Drublic (Chicago & Denver)Descendents: Milo Goes To College (Chicago)Naked Raygun: Throb Throb (Chicago)The Get Up Kids: Something To Write Home About (Chicago)
There is one more album organizers are holding close to their chests, but have promised to unveil it in a separate announcement in the upcoming weeks, as well as additional 10th Anniversary surprises.
“We have one more band playing an album that we’re immensely excited about… but it wouldn’t be Riot if we didn’t tease a little beforehand,” chuckles Petryshyn. “No matter what though, this is really about thanking our fans. The work put into the lineups this year and things like the essential albums plays is for them… as clichéd as it may sound, it’s the truth. We’d be nowhere without them and maybe the way we thank them is by giving them a fest where we can all sing along."
Riot Fest is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year, and to celebrate organizers have assembled three festivals in North America this September:  Toronto's Riot Fest & Expo  (9/6-9/7) at  Downsview Park Chicago's Riot Fest & Carnival  (9/12-9/14) in  Humboldt Park , and  Denver's Riot Fest & Sideshow  (9/19-9/21) at  May Farms .
Tickets for all 3 Riot Fests are on sale now via www.ticketfly.com. More band announcements are forthcoming as well as a few more 10th Anniversary surprises.

Orenda Fink Announces New Album Blue Dream out August 19

"Orenda Fink embraces spirituality and mysticism along with more challenging songwriting." - Pitchfork
"Fink's voice is lush, full, seductive, vulnerable, mature, and innocent at various times, and on rare occasions, all of those qualities at once." - Pop Matters

"Lovely and visceral all at once." - Paste
Listen: "Ace of Cups" via Paste Magazine or Soundcloud
Orenda Fink is excited to announce her new album, Blue Dream out August 19 on Saddle Creek. Orenda Fink has shared the album's lead track, "Ace Of Cups" with  Paste Magazine  and it's also available for streaming and embed at SoundCloud. Blue Dream can be pre-ordered now on CD and LP in the Saddle Creek online store. Fans that order the deluxe LP (Blue and Coke Bottle vinyl) will also receive a bonus Blue Dream Dream Journal handmade and inscribed by Orenda Fink. The blank journals, limited to 100, are hand screen printed originals made from vintage re-purposed books.

Throughout her time with Azure Ray and over the course of her solo career, Orenda Fink has never shied from exploring the darker edges of spirituality and the human condition. On her debut solo album Invisible Ones, Orenda explored traditional Haitian ritual and mysticism. She then followed that up with an examination of the Southern Gothic subconscious on Ask the Night. Needless to say, death has been visible in much of her music. On her latest album, Blue Dream, she looks deeply at the subject, reflecting upon a year-long meditation on death that started with a dog named Wilson and the words of Laurie Anderson.

"Just look at yesterday, and what you were doing, and how important it was, and how nonexistent it is now! How dreamlike it is! Same thing with tomorrow. So where are we living? Tibetans have unbelievably fascinating answers to that. This is what I'm studying because my dog died."  - Laurie Anderson  Orenda was sent this quote by her friend Nina Barnes after Wilson, Orenda's dog of 16 years, died. That year she found herself on a deeply personal search for the meaning of death. Pieces of answers, coded in riddle, came to her in dreams. Her dreams began to tell a story - about life and death and the afterlife, reality, and the fine line between the conscious and subconscious world.
She then spent the next year understanding the experience and filtering it through the musical inspirations of Smog, Violetta Parra, and Kate Bush to craft Blue Dream. The album truly came together at ARC in Omaha, NE with the help of producers Ben Brodin and Todd Fink (The Faint), along with drummer Bill Rieflin (Ministry, Swans, R.E.M., King Crimson).

Lead single "Ace of Cups" starts the album off by using the Tarot symbol of attunement and spirituality to explore the interconnectedness with the world and humanity that even death cannot undo. The haunting "Holy Holy" examines them directly with lines "We come into this world all alone/and we leave with not much more" and "I lay in bed/collect all my dreams/then I pay/someone to read them to me/the simple ones are just as they seem/but open your eyes/and they say so much more." Whereas "All Hearts Will Beat Again" displays ideas Orenda came to understand upon reflection in lines "It's a sign in the eyes/something in your smile/it's a nod and a wave from the darkness/but our hearts will beat again/and the love we gave will come back/but i don't know where or when."

Writing the album allowed Orenda to contemplate the experiences that precipitated it and explore new perspectives gained over the past year. This process left her with the belief that we can only be truly healed if we find our "interior God." How do you find your interior God? There are many ways, but she believes one of them is through dreams. Dreams being the closest way to have a direct experience with the all-knowing past, present, and future.

Land Observations To Release New Album

LAND OBSERVATIONS NEW ALBUM – The Grand TourOUT JULY 29th 2014
WATCH THE TRAILER HERE

Land Observations  (aka the musician and artist, James Brooks) has announced a brand new album release,  The Grand Tour , out on July 29th 2014, watch the trailer for the new album here.
The Grand Tour  is the follow up to 2012’s critically acclaimed debut album,  Roman Roads IV-XI.  Where that was concerned with the roads of communication and conquest that stretched across the former Roman Empire and Republic, the new album creates an imaginary travelogue through Western, Central and Southern Europe with reference to the historic Grand Tour.
The album was recorded on the edge of the Bavarian Alps on just one electric 6-string guitar - exploring the potential of the instrument in relation to layers, rhythm, melody and timbre.
The recording process utilized a selection of vintage amplifiers and studio equipment, intentionally enjoying the warmth of analogue tape for assisting to create immersive pastoral motorik.
Historically The Grand Tour was a traditional rite of passage for wealthy University graduates, finding popularity in the 18th century, this was the beginning of cultural travel and tourism as we have come to know it. The tour’s itinerary was designed to expand minds through experiencing the treasures of European art, music, architecture and topography.
Wistful, melancholic but with optimism for the journey ahead, the album opens with “On Leaving The Kingdom For The Well-Tempered Continent”, addressing the route from London, through the Kentish countryside on the Old Dover Road, towards the port and crossing the channel to Northern France.
From there, the landscape gives inspiration to the speed, pace and momentum of the journey – the swift “Flatlands And The Flemish Roads” mirroring the horizontal unimpeded journey of the lowlands. Slowing into “From The Heights Of The Simpson Pass” as we climb up one of the highest mountain routes in the Swiss Alps; sweeping down and across to the majestic “Nice To Turin” and meandering the elegant Strasses of Vienna, with its ornate, baroque architecture and streets infused with its musical history on “Ode To Viennese Streets”.
The record's  The Grand Tour  continues through its itinerary to the cities of Venice, Florence, Rome before finally heading back. On “Return To Ravenna”, a beginning and an end is at once signaled. It’s the end of the tour, and the beginning of the journey home - a trackwith an intentional reference to Land Observations’ debut, album, where Brooks celebrated “Via Flaminia”, the Roman road between Rome and Ravenna, once a major city in classical culture.
As such, the album is not concerned with arrival; its concern is with the journey, the experiences, the momentum of travel through re-imagining a grand tour.
The route that Brooks has taken to reach Land Observations began with Appliance, Brooks was a founding member and guitarist in the band. Appliance ended in 2003, but before that released four acclaimed albums via Mute.
When Appliance disbanded, Brooks took a Masters degree in fine art and has exhibited in galleries such as the Tate Britain, London, Contemporary Art Society, London, Galerie Laurent Mueller, Paris, Galerie Martina Detterer, Frankfurt, Domobaal, London, but music remained a constant throughout. In fact, it was while listening to lots of solo guitar, such as John Fahey, or the artists on and influenced by his Takoma label, that Brooks realized that any future endeavors would see him tread a lone path: "I didn't want to be in a band any more and I became aware that a solo guitar could fill the sound"
After an initial Land Observations EP for Enraptured Records and a performance at Mute's Short Circuit Festival at the Roundhouse in May 2011, Brooks "realized that I wanted to take it further and make a long-playing record” which culminated in 2012’s release,  Roman Roads IV-XI described by MOJO as “metronomic intensity” and by Q as having an “understated, fragile beauty”.
Since its release, Brooks guested on Simon Fisher Turner’s score for the BFI restoration of The Epic Of Everest (dir. Captain John Noel, 1924) and has performed the score live at the London Film Festival world premiere and Trento Film Festival in Italy.

Tiny Victories Reveal New Video

TINY VICTORIES REVEAL VIDEO FOR "DRINKING WITH YOUR GHOST"PREMIERED VIA THE WILD HONEY PIE   UPCOMING ALBUM HAUNTS DUE JUNE 10 ON THE SLEEPOVER PARTY

STREAM // EMBED "DRINKING WITH YOUR GHOST"
"Full of smart, catchy electro-pop hooks with subversive production details to keep listeners
guessing. There's real depth to Greg Walters' voice, as well as
a natural, organic feel to the music." -  NPR
"Highly danceable, joyous electro-pop, at times veering toward the orchestral." -  New York Magazine
"Makes us want to ditch all our responsibilities and cruise down to the beach for a bonfire...Big things are in store for Tiny Victories." -  NYLON
The Sleepover Party is excited to share the video for "Drinking With Your Ghost" from Tiny Victories' upcoming full-length  Haunts , due June 10, 2014. The Brooklyn-based duo premiered the Brian Levi Bowman-directed video via  The Wild Honey Pie,  which called the track "broodingly powerful... a haunting piece that sounds exactly like being stuck in a constant stream of memories." The video features the band performing among a conspiracy of ravens in a dark, swirling digital world. Haunts is now available for CD and 500 pressing limited-edition white vinyl pre-order HERE, and an iTunes pre-order is available for $7.99, which includes an instant download of "Drinking With Your Ghost." The "Drinking With Your Ghost" video is available for streaming and embedHERE.
Tiny Victories' new album, produced and mixed by industry veteran Alex Aldi (Passion PitHoly Ghost!) and mastered by Chris Gehringer (YeasayerChairliftJay-Z), is a statement of purpose-and a point of arrival. The songwriting has evolved in a more focused direction, with a tighter structure, while Greg Walters and Cason Kelly continue to build on the experimental sonic architecture that fascinated them in their early days. Synth lines cut through through the dense underbrush of electronic soundscapes, propelled forward by Cason's relentless drumming. Greg's self-assured voice soars above the commotion.
Haunts comes on the heels of the band's critically acclaimed 2012 EP, Those Of Us Still Alive. Following that brief 5-song debut,  NPR  picked Tiny Victories as a band likely to break big nationally, hand-selected by WNYC's own John Schaefer.   MTV Buzzworthy  lauded the band's "futuristic synths, squiggly samples and fist-pumping vocals" as sounding "like a big win to us," while  Time Out NY  highlighted their "Bittersweet bangers...which should satisfy those craving a hit of lush, hooky MGMT-style dance-pop." The band was invited to play Bonnaroo in 2013 and join the Bonnaroo 365 tour with White Denim and Maps & Atlases, as well as share bills with Ra Ra RiotBear Hands, Yellow Ostrich, Magic Man and more.
